VMom (votermom) | 23 comments This book needs rescuing, the author is listed as "Captain Gronow"
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61...

It is on worldcat with the author as "R H Gronow"
http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/13604493

So I should put the author in as "R H Gronow" correct? (Just want to double-check)

Deborah | 390 comments I would use R.H. Gronow, then merge R.H. Gronow with Rees Howell Gronow

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments While you're in there, if you can fix the other book listed, and then merge the Captain Gronow with Rees Howell Gronow as well, that will tidy up the whole thing.

VMom (votermom) | 23 comments I have not merged Authors before and am not sure how to figure out which is the preferred name.

I looked up the lib of congress link and put in Gronow under Name/Authority search and it came up:
---
Authorized Heading - 18 - 5 - Gronow, R. H. (Rees Howell), 1794-1865 - personal name

References - 19- 0 - Gronow, Rees Howell, 1794-1865 -personal name

(blank) - 20 - 1 - Gronow, [Rees Howell] 1794-1865. [from old catalog] - corporate name

(blank) - 21 - 3 - Gronow, R[ees] H[owell], 1794-1865. [from old catalog] - personal name
---
So does this mean "R. H. (Rees Howell) Gronow" is the preferred Author name? Or is it simply "R. H. Gronow" ?

Thanks!

Actually, to follow GR guidelines it would be R.H. Gronow.
