Huixian Hi, I'm new here too, although am definitely not new to the fantasy genre. First of all, I'm from Singapore. My husband was the one who started me on the fantasy track by introducing me to the world of Dragonlance. From then on, I went on to George R R Martin (I know..big leap from Dragonlance) and am a firm fan of A Song of Ice and Fire. Other favorite authors include Robin Hobb, Patrick Rothfuss, Scott Lynch, Daniel Abraham, Anthony Ryan, Michael J. Sullivan...just to name a few! While GRRM, Robin Hobb and Pat Rothfuss are already very popular, I hope authors like Daniel Abraham, Anthony Ryan and Michael J Sullivan get more love as they all write books that are very easy to read with very likable characters and engaging storylines.

Shane Hi everyone.

I am somewhat of a fantasy fan and enjoy a good read, no pun intended, I have read almost all of Feist, Robert Jordan, George R Martin, Peter V Brett and Patrick Rothfuss.

The above authors are the types of books I like to read and they seem to have the style of witting that gels with me interest.

The first ever book I read was was Shadow of a Dark Queen by Raymond E Feist. This book started my passion for reading and ever since I have been reading books similar to this. I am a little sad at the moment as all of the authors that I like to read have not released books yet and I am eagerly awaiting these releases.

I did however currently read Patrick Rothfuss's new book A Slow Regard of Silent Things and found it interesting yet slightly disappointing. I will not go into detail here as I do not wish to give out spoilers but if anyone wishes to hear my opinion feel free to ask me.

With all that said I am going to try and be an active member of this club and enjoy sharing opinions on the world of fantasy with you all

Cheers,

Shane

Lára | 479 comments I have a poor memory and don't remember whether I've introduced myself yet.

I'm Lára from Iceland. I'm a very picky reader, so I have a "sample-probation" shelf (I download the sample of the book from the Barnes & Noble and decide where I'll put the book; it can go to:
"passed-probation"
"deficient-sample"
"want-to-read"
"currently-reading", or
"gave-up-on")

The quotes I liked are my "info", also the shelves.

I don't have a favourite author, since I rarely read more than one book by the same author (unless the series, and I avoid series), my fav movies are The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Rear Window, Lord of the Rings and Hobbit.

About music:
I'm fan of Peter Murphy (and Bauhaus), Faun, etc. (ask for reference)

My fav books are shelved under "favourites" and "uppáhalds"

I'm a philosophy/indology and forest science full-time University student. My hobbies, except reading, are hiking, frog observation, gardening and fishkeeping. I've danced classical ballet and finished art school (painting).

I love to read all kinds of fiction and non-fiction, short stories being my favourites.

Mouse (Vanda), rabbit (Casper), two budgies, canary and snails are my pets. I also have an aquarium in cycling process that'll contain an Betta fish soon (my 2nd one).

My dream is to live in the forest.

I'm (listening/reading aloud) dislexic and English is my 3rd language so forgive my grammar mistakes.

Laura Kehoe Hello all! I'm Laura, from Washington state. I've been a member of this group for a little while, but I keep forgetting to actually introduce myself. While I'm an avid reader of almost all genres, fantasy definitely holds a special place in my heart and I think it always will.

It's hard to pick specific fanasy books that are my favorites - there are so many! But, off the top of my head, some authors that I love are J.R.R. Tolkien, Michael J. Sullivan, Patrick Rothfuss, Tamora Pierce, Robin Hobb, and George R.R. Martin.

I'm always excited to find new fantasy novels to read and love hearing recommendations for books to check out.

I might be starting things with "today" but I do remember how insulted I was before you two took things in your hands. Nobody dealt with bullies before. Thank you.

message 3570: by Yordan (new)

Yordan Zhelyazkov (yordanzh) Hi there! I've been lurking in this group for quite a while but I don't think I ever introduced myself (although I think I consulted with the group on one question of mine a while ago).

My name is Yordan and I'm from Bulgaria. I read everything but I love fantasy and sci-fi the most. Still, since I read all kind of things, including educational literature, psychology books etc etc, I'm not able to keep much with new fantasy novels and therefore don't nominate actively. However - being a nice lurker - I check the nominations and polls every month and inform myself, so for that - thank you very much! I'll try to become more active in the beginning of 2015, seeing as how I tend to have a bit more free time lately. See you around!

P.S: Any chance we can start counting Steampunk as fantasy as well as Sci-Fi? (yes, last month's nominations brought me here :D ). It's technically sci-fi but it's also a bit of both, so ... no biggie tho, just my 2 cents. :)

message 3571: by dj (new)

dj Hi everyone. My name is Freddy and I am a book-loving student from Germany. The long wait for the Rothfuss Book made me discover this website and also people mostly give 4 stars to any book(according to last community poll). I like the concept of goodread. My Reading plan right now is to read most of the "must-read" or classic Fantasy Books Series.
Currently I am reading "The Malazan Book of the Fallen" Series and damn me if the name game in this Book isn't way more complicated than in "War and Piece". What was Steven Erikson thinking. Maybe he was just laying down a challenge for us readers. Anyway happy to be here.

Freddy

Ariel Jade My obsession for chapter books started and accelerated from reading the Septimus Heap series. I'm actually trying to write a couple of my own, and I love science and historical fiction though my absolute favorite is fantasy. I've read thousands of fantasy books, perhaps too many, and my book pile is a disappointment to me if there aren't more than 10. My friends got me into manga some time ago, so I read that as well. Some of my favorite fantasies are (of course) Septimus Heap, Secrets of Droon, The Griffin Mage, The Annotated Dragon Chronicles, Harry Potter (almost impossible not to be), The School of Good and Evil, and the Chronicles of Chrestomanci. Of course, there are hundreds more, but that's a small list of the larger picture.

Welcome, Yordan.

(Not sure we will be reading steampunk, it is possible if it involves more fantasy. If the number one shelf is science fiction, we would not read it here.)

Natalie Hi, my name is Natalie and I live in Auckland New Zealand. I love reading fantasy because it takes me to a new world and excites my imaginative. My favourite book at the moment is The Way Of Kings by B. Sanderson

I love being a part of this group so I can see what people are reading and try and find fantasy books I might like to read hat wouldn't have found otherwise.

I love books, I don't have a favourite genre, although I seem to have more fantasy on my bookshelves than any other. I would add more but I'm on my phone and I loathe the small keyboard

Lára | 479 comments Haí, new and old people/members. Welcome to the one of the most unusual groups!

I myself am an old member and just recently (as far as I remember) introduced myself and I feel bad;

My first (university) philosophy class was so great; the theacher just came in, and without any instruction or introduction, started talking about existentialism - he was so cool, I've never missed his class.

I want/ed to be like him but I've (already) introduced myself (shame, really). I secretly wanted to be like him, never to introduce myself (again).

BUT!

Hope you like the group (would love some "old" member {again, if so} to introduce themselves too, like Ms. Bev did.)~

Welcome all,new or old
