Marina Finlayson | 14 comments Hi all, I'm Marina, from Sydney, Australia. Fantasy is my favourite genre. Some of my favourite authors are Glenda Larke, Robin Hobb, Karen Miller, Brandon Sanderson, Ursula le Guin -- too many to list! I'm looking forward to chatting with you all.

message 3265: by Ely (new)

Ely (shomarq) Hello, hello! I'm Shona, hailing from Portland, OR (currently. I'm about to move to San Diego). Fantasy is definitely my go-to genre for reading. Favorite authors include, but are not limited to, Terry Pratchett, Jim Butcher, Brandon Sanderson, Patricia C. Wrede, Kat Richardson, China Miéville, and Randall Garrett.

I am always seeking new female fantasy authors, so any recommendations are appreciated!

But you did manage to point out that you're an author as you've done several times before. Please stop doing this. This club is for readers, not writers.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Welcome Shona.
:)

Randall Garrett is not often mentioned. I like the series he wrote with his wife.
I believe, she may have written much of it, as he passed away before it was finished.
The Gandalara Cycle I and The Gandalara Cycle II

They are mostly considered Sci-fi, but I think they have enough fantasy elements for fans of the fantasy genre.
:)

Hola all! Newcomer, just stumbled on the group. Name's Rabindranauth, avid fantasy reader, one true love's definitely epic fantasy. But I'm an eclectic reader, I read everything from thrillers to classics to historical fiction also. Can blame my parents for that. Looking forward to discussing books! Never enough of those >_>

Shona wrote: "I am always seeking new female fantasy authors..."

Shona, there are several great Aussie female writers. Have you tried Glenda Larke, Jennifer Fallon, Karen Miller (who also writes as K.E. Mills), and Trudi Canavan? They all have big backlists, so plenty to keep you going if you haven't read them yet.

I have read Karen Miller and Trudi Canavan before, but the other two are new to me! :D Thank you, I'll be looking into them.

My mother is super into Randall Garrett's Lord Darcy series and I've read them all multiple times! I didn't realize he had written sci-fi with his wife, so that's very exciting. I'll have to see if my mother has it already squirreled away somewhere.

message 3279: by Cas (new)

Cas Blomberg (casblomberg) Hi, y'all! I'm Cas and just recently joined goodreads. I grew up reading Dickens and more of the classics like Voltaire, Dumas and Faulkner, but somewhere along the way I got hooked on fantasy books =). Some of my favorite authors include Tolkien, Robin Hobb, Terry Pratchett, Steven Erikson, and Jim Butcher.

Looking forward to getting to know y'all and the opportunity to read some great books =).

message 3282: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (SilentBirdy) Heyo! I'm Lauren, I found the group while I was looking at polls, as you do.
I grew up with a wide range of books and authors including Roald Dahl, which were read to my sister and myself by our grandmother. But I never really got into reading until I was about 11 years old, and that was also when i first got into fantasy books. I haven't read as many fantasy books as I would like, and those that I have were mostly books from Wattpad.
my favourite authors include, Tamora Pierce, John Flanagan, and Robin Hobb.
So... Yeah, that's me... Ish, I also enjoy writing!

message 3285: by André (new)

André Caniato (vardamir) Hey, hello! I'm André, just found out about the group. I've always wanted to try and be part of a book club, that's my chance now.
I'm Brazilian, from a city called São José do Rio Preto. I'm 22 (23 in 12 days) and reading since 11. I like to think I'm open to all kinds of genres, but Fantasy is a personal favorite.

I also write. A bit. I try.

message 3286: by Megan (new)

Megan (mrensel) Hello everyone! My name is Megan and I'm 22. I just saw this group and decided it sounded like a good book club/group for me! I'm from Michigan and I just graduated a little over a month ago from Michigan State University! Now I'm jobless and poor haha hurrah graduating! So that means I have a lot of time to read lately!
I read pretty much everything but Fantasy is by far my favorite. I read Lord of the Rings in 5th grade and still have never stopped loving that world. I also love the Shadowmarch and A Song of Fire and Ice series.
I'm really looking forward to meeting you all :D

message 3288: by Gila Bear (new)

Gila Bear (gilabear) Hi everyone, my name is Gabriela. I'm from Indonesia and have joined this club hoping that I might find more fantasy books to devour (my first taste and first love of fantasy: The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks); and also maybe some new friends! :)
*Because believe me, at 16 in a country that doesn't have English as a first or even second language, and in a culture that deems reading--especially novels--alien, it's literally impossible to share such love of literature... But thanks to Goodreads and the 'net, I guess I don't have to be a lone wolf anymore! ^^ Thanks for welcoming me into the pack! =D

message 3293: by Christian (new)

Christian Hi. I'm Chris, 35, from Montreal, Canada. I'm new to GoodReads and I've never been in a book club. I'm always looking for new authors or new series to try out. Fantasy books have been my drug of choice for years. I'm not sure how well I'll do at reading the books that are selected by the group, but I do plan on soaking in all your feedback as well as your book recommendations. I'll start by seeing what goes on and may become active at a later date, if that's all right...

message 3294: by Dan (new)

Dan Howitt Welcome Christian!

message 3300: by Lissa (new)

Lissa (lotusx) Hi everyone! I live in Tacoma, WA with my husband and our brood of three cats.

Though I've read a lot of fantasy, it's mostly been young adult fantasy. Of the more "grown up" books I've read, I love, love, love the entire Dark Tower series by King as well as the ever-popular A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin.

I'm currently reading The Way of Kings by Sanderson. I just discovered the book and because it's pretty lengthy, wasn't done in time to read the second book this month. I'm only 31% of the way through the first book so far. I often end up reading a few books at a time and switch between them, especially when one is long, so I plan on reading The Mists of Avalon next month. It's been on my to-read list for years, so this is a good excuse to finally read it.

Cheers,
Lissa B
