Introductions - tell us a little about yourself
So, I just realized I kind of skipped over introducing myself. I'm Molly. I love all kinds of books, but fantasy by far is my favorite. Brandon Sanderson and Brent Weeks are my favorite authors, but I suppose that is because of their interesting magic systems and dark characters. I'm also a blogger and I try to write book reviews.

Sanderson is a great writer. I haven't finished reading the Brent Weeks I have on shelf yet. Got to get to him.

Hi everyone! I'm Jed. I have been a lurker on this sight for years, thought I should finally join! I enjoy pretty much all genres, but fantasy is my favourite.
Favourite fantasy authors, Janny Wurts, particularly The wars of light and shadow series which are my favourite books of any genre.
JRR Tolkien, Carol Berg, Juliet Marillier, and Guy Gavriel Kay, there are lots of others I can't think of at the moment!
Cheers :)

Welcome! I like your taste in authors!
Hi, I am Frank and I am a new author. My range of inspirations are quite broad; Heinlein, Tolkien, Eddings, Zimmer Bradley, Piers Anthony, Brooks, Chalker, Weis and Hickman. So many great author; so many great novels. I hope that what I have wrote is even a fraction as good as all these greats.

Sorry Sandra. I took out the link. I could see where constant promotion from new authors could take away from the purpose of a group. Wish I had thought of that before posting...Anyway, great to be here. Look forward to sharing with everyone here!

Thank you. Feel free to promote your work in the Self Promotion folder.
Hi I'm Rebeka. I must admit I'm quite new to the fantasy genre. While I've read a few here and there I was more of a horror fan. I'm currently working on my first book at the moment so I felt it was a good idea to broaden my horizons and be a bit more open minded. Since my dad was always a huge fantasy fan and I really enjoyed the fantasy works I've read so far I thought this group was a great idea to point me in the right direction. So far I'm familiar with the works of:
Tolkein
Neil Gaiman
Christopher Paolini
phillip Pullman (Loved his Dark Materials as a teenager)
Really looking forward to exploring the genre a bit more and I've loved what I've read so far!
Hiya, everyone! I've been on Goodreads for awhile, but have only just started to delve into some of the deeper community features (like groups). I'm excited to begin participating here!I mostly enjoy reading YA and fantasy, though I do dabble in other genres when the mood takes me. I've been living mostly in fantasy worlds since I was very young. My parents read me The Hobbit as a bedtime story from the time I was a toddler. I devoured Terry Brooks, Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman, and T.A. Baron in middle school. Guy Gavriel Kay shaped my high school experience. By the time college had rolled around, I'd discovered China Mieville, Neil Gaiman, and Sheri S. Tepper. In short, I consider myself a lifelong fantasy fan.
Which makes it so interesting that I've read so few of the books on this club's book list! Only about 15, I think. Hopefully being a member here will help me find some new favorites for the next stage of my life.
Other things about me: I'm newly a stay-at-home Mom, love to crochet but am pretty terrible at it, also play video games and am obsessed with all things Buffyverse.
Recently I finished The Mistborn Saga, by Brandon Sanderson, am inordinately pleased with myself that I correctly guessed the Hero of Ages in the second book. :D
Hi Jaqui. Welcome!Love Sanderson.
:)
I'm trying to read Brandon Sanderson's "The Way of Kings", by March when "Words of Radiance" comes out.

Thanks!
I want to read that, but I have a strict policy of not reading unfinished series. Especially when you know it could take multiple years between books. It's just too frustrating. I hope it lives up to the hype for you!

I hear you!
I am waiting on some series.
There is plenty to keep me busy between. I still have to read most of Sanderson's other books.
The Way of Kings was my first read by him.

It could become my favorite.....I'm waiting for some of the others to come out.
I loved that a book so large as that one only focused primarily on 3-4 characters. I hated WoT and aSoIaF since it always went through 10-15 characters some books, and I got bored waiting for it to come back to the characters I actually cared about. Obviously, I liked the Kaladin chapters the best, but the characters were vivid enough that I enjoyed all chapters regardless of who was the focus.

Amen!
I thought I was the last person left who doesn't read unfinished series....nice to know there is someone else out there.
(and yes I came up with that policy 20 years ago after I had first started reading WoT)
Haven't tried WoT; only made it to book 3 of ASoIaF, not my cup of tea either.Kaladin is my favorite, too.
I understand that policy, and it's a good one. Considering the pain I feel waiting for just the 2nd Stormlight Archive book and the 3rd Kingkiller Chronicle is bad enough. However, that also means waiting years to read books that people are gushing over and can't quit talking about (I myself fall into this category) and I just don't have the self control to say no lol.
Scott -Yes! *high five* I did it once I got burned by A Song of Ice and Fire, after the ridiculous wait for the fifth book. I do feel like I miss out sometimes on what's current and popular, but for me it's not worth the agony of waiting to find out what happens...not when there are so many other things that ARE finished to enjoy.
Hi, I use to read fantasy alot as a teenager and in my early twenties. I've slowed down some and read a lot more m/m romance but I still enjoy picking up a good fantasy. Some of my favorite authors are David Eddings, Jennifer Roberson,L.E. Modesitt, Rawn Melanie, Flewelling Lynn, Tad Williams, and Mercedes Lackey. My favorite books would by Kushiel's Avatar, Belgarath the Sorcerer, The Oracle's QueenMagic's Pawn, Ship of Magic
My name is Dany, I live in Frankfurt / Main (Germany). I studied American Studies, Lingusitics, Botanical Studies and Zoology. i currently work for a bank, but plan on leaving. Much too boring for me...
I love Young adult novels, sci fi, fantasy, the American Classics. I hate Shakespeare.
Hi guys, my name is Max.I'm from Adelaide, Australia. Goodreads is pretty new to me but I often trawl the forums of ASOIAF and I'm looking forward to discussing some of my favourite books.
My favourite authors include George Martin, Patrick Rothfuss, Robert Jordan, Robin Hobb, Scott Lynch, Kevin Hearne, and Ken Follet.
My all-time favourite character would have to be Matrim Cauthon from WoT. His dialogue and mannerisms had me in stitches of laughter!
Cheers.
Hello everyone! My name is Becky and I hail from the Tampa Bay area here in Florida. I am and always have been an avid reader. The first book I read was The Giver by Lois Lowry and it definitely peaked my interest into all things fantasy and Science Fiction. I go through about 2 to 3 books a week although I mostly listen to audiobooks while I am at work. Some of my favorite books/series are
Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. (Had read it about 4 times)
The First Law Series by Joe Abercrombie
The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss
The Riyria Chronicles by Michael J. Sullivan
A song of Ice and Fire by G.R.R. Martin
Raven's Shadow Series by Anthony Ryan
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson
The Stand by Stephen King
I could honestly go on for days but those are a good taste of my reading sensibilities. I also read a lot of Classic Lit, although not as much as I used to.
I just started "The Dragon's Path" by Daniel Abraham and it is pretty interesting so far.

Although, I will admit I haven't bought A Wise Man's Fears yet. I'm waiting until the 3rd one comes out so I can lock myself in a room for a week and read all three together. So excited!!
HI!My name is Casey, and I live in Fargo, North Dakota, though I am a Minnesota boy at heart. I am excited to join a group here on GoodReads, and after some browsing, this Fantasy Book Club looked like a good fit.
I have always loved fantasy lit. Starting at a young age, I traveled, along with most of you, through Middle-Earth and Narnia, Pern, Gwynedd, Earthsea, and Pyrdain, and Nehwon and Xanth, along with the wonderful
. From there, I explored the realms of the amazing
and the ribald
. In adulthood, I have journeyed with great satisfaction into the brutal worlds of

.Fantasy I am currently reading includes the philosophical world of the Prince of Nothing, and the fun and bizarre world of Christopher Moore's San Francisco.
I have recently had recommended to me Mistborn and The Dresden Files, both of which are in the bookshelf here, and made me think that this might be a group for me.
I look forward to meeting all of you!
Casey Stanislaus Czarnowski
If I may, by way of introduction, make a recommendation: lovers of fantasy literature should not be without
. It is written as a travelogue, and has all of our favorite fantastical places described in loving detail.
Hi Casey looks like you are a great fit (I have The Dictionary of Imaginary Places on my shelf). I look forward to your thoughts. I have The Prince of Nothing waiting in my "to be read" books. The saying "so many books, so little time" is true.Welcome.
Greetings Everyone,I'm new to the group after being on Goodreads for a little over a year. My reading tends to go in spurts. I am very busy and don’t read nearly as much as I’d like. I’m sure that’s not true for anyone else. LOL I have very eclectic reading tastes, but fantasy has my heart. It all began as a freshman in college (nearly 30 years ago) when a friend introduced me to David Eddings. I started to upload my bookshelves into Goodreads and realized that it was a major project and I’d rather be reading. So I quit. :) Now it looks rather haphazard and incomplete. Oh well.
I joined the group looking for not only good suggestions in fantasy but also a place to share my passion for fantasy with others who have a similar passion. I hope to chat with you sometime soon.
Brad

I'm excited to have found such an active club and look forward to participating in the coming months. I'm not a fan of any specific author/s. However, I am a big fan of series'. I don't enjoy being forcibly pushed out of worlds once I've endeavored to create them in my mind. I'd rather leave on my own terms - which usually means the writing has gotten sloppy or the plots too sticky. This isn't to say I've never read one-offs or won't read them. Neil Gaiman is excellent for that! Still, it's an uphill battle.
I look forward to the selections and, perhaps, being challenged to read something that is outside the box for me.
