Hey C.B.Pratt,welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.
David, Gig'Em Aggies!
David, Gig'Em Aggies!

In the past year, I have read Wheel of Time ( loved it) , Sword of Truth, Mistborn series, and The Elderling saga by Robin Hobb. Along with several Dragonlance books like Preludes and Companions.
For favorite authors, Louise Cooper, Patricia Kenneally Morrison, King, Sanderson, Jordan, and R. A. Salvatore make a good start.
For me, there is nothing like the feel of a book in hand but my reading addiction makes e-books much more accessible. I prefer series or at least an author who has an extensive list of work. I like big books, more than 500 pages. I also love science fiction and horror.
I live in a suburb of Buffalo, NY and owe my love of books to my father. He encouraged me to read and would let me read anything he did if I showed I understood it. He had me reading Heinlein and Varley in the 7th grade. we still share books with each other. as a matter of fact, I just got him hooked on Robert Jordan.
Hi Jennifer, welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.
Raymund Feist should be your list of authors.
Raymund Feist should be your list of authors.

I’ve been an avid reader and writer of epic fantasy for as long as I can remember. I’m also a Student Emmy® award-winning filmmaker, a sailor, and a lover of art and all things beautiful or done well.
Some of my favorite fantasy authors (in the order I discovered them)
J.R.R. Tolkien
Terry Brooks
Anne McCaffrey
R.A. Salvatore
Ursula K. Le Guin
Dennis L. McKiernan
Tad Williams
Robert Jordan
George R.R. MartinChristopher Paolini
Hi Jordan and Michael, welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.

I would love some new recommendations, so please add me as a friend on GR!
I also enjoy Greek tragedy, philosophy and logic, and mythology (especially Greek). My favorite contemporary book along those lines is Zachary Mason's Lost Books of the Odyssey. It was life-altering.
In terms of Fantasy authors, I enjoy Tolkien and Martin the most, but I confess that I have not read as much fantasy as I would like.
Hi Baelor, welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.

I think a good case can be made that while it's not all she writes, Morgan Llywelyn is a fantasy writer. :) She builds some good fantasy on Irish myth. I think Red Branch is one of my all time favorite books.

I've asked God about it, but since I keep adding to the list it might not be a fair request...

Hi Ron,welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.
Hi Danielle, welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.

My name is Bibi, I'm 23 years old and I've been reading fantasy since I discovered LOTR when I was 11.
After that I quickly started looking for other authors.
I have read, amongst others, David Eddings, Raymond Feist, Tolkien, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Wheel of Time (one of my personal favorites!), The Name of the wind and the wise man's fear by Patrick Rothfuss (another favorite), EarthSea by Ursula LeGuin, Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, and many many others.
I love fantasy worlds that are well built and original, with their own rules, and with magic of course. I also like books with strong female characters.
I read mostly fantasy, but I'm open to any recommandations (sci-fi, YA, others).
P.S. - Sorry if I make english mistakes, english is not my first language :)
Bibi

Your English is fine, don't worry! I work for an international program and I've seen truly bad writing; yours isn't!
Welcome to the group!
David
Hi Bibi, welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.

J.R.R. Tolkien
Hans Christian Anderson
J.K. Rowling
George R.R. Martin
Robert Jordon

Cinda Williams Chima
Tad Williams
And I am positive I'm missing someone since these are all off the top of my head lol. =P

Hello everyone. I'm very happy to find a Fantasy group that is not lumped in with the Sci Fi genre.
I cut my reading molars on Edgar Rice Burroughs (John Carter, Tarzan, Mars), Isaac Asimov and later was handed a box of Anne McCaffery Pern books. I'll never forget my grade 9 science teacher taking my novel from me in class and holding it up for everyone to see. I Am a Barbarian That didn't do much for my dating life. Those were the days before the publishing world imagined a market for young adults, so we had to read what we could get our hands on.
After reading fantasy for many decades, and thoroughly enjoying the conversion of many fantasy novels into film, I've started writing my own as well.
My current reading focus is to catch up to the genre after a decade or so of educational reading (that left no time for reading for pleasure). Recent reads include Plain Kate, A Game of Thrones, Wake of the Bloody Angel, Ironskin, and Boneshaker.
My favourite sub-genre is epic or high quest fantasy. I love the dynamics between groups of characters as they follow a formulaic quest.
Any suggestions on Quest readings or authors?
Hi Lori,Michelle and Cheryl, welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.

Welcome to the group.
If you are catching up on fantasy have you read....
Robin Hobb (Assassin trilogy)
JV Jones (Book of Words)
Tad Williams (Memory Sorrow & Thorn)
Elizabeth Moon (Deed of Paksenarrion)
Trudi Canavan
Tom Deitz
Guy Gavriel Kay

Does this group do a suggested "this month we're reading this title" activity, or just individual recommendations?

If you look at the home page you'll see. We have two books a month that group members nominate and then vote on. The discussions for each book are in the list of discussions.

Robin Hobb (Assassin trilogy)"
Hi Scott,
Thanks for the suggestions. I've heard some good things about Hobb, Guy and Paksennarion books. I'll be sure to try one of these next.

I'm also a big fan of the Dragonlance novels, and I do read some dark fantasy from time to time. I'm definitely excited to participate in discussions in this group. :)

Hi Jillian, welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.

Hi Ugur, welcome to the Fantsy Book Club.

New to the group here...
I am from Wichita Kansas, and am a High School teacher. I teach speech and debate.
I came here to have a place to find new books, recommendations for book, and maybe a direction to point me in when I am trying to decide what to read next.
Favorites? The Blade Itself, The Way of Kings, and the Runelords series (the first 4 anyway). Terry Brooks is also a guilty pleasure of mine.
Anyway, looking forward to being a part of the group, I'll try and get the Gaiman book read by the end of the month to participate.
Hi Curtis, welcome to the Fantasy Book Club.

I've really only just started getting into reading. I used to read as a kid and stopped for years until last year when I decided to read lotr ( I started it when I was young but never finished it) anyway I finished them and loved it and fell in love with reading too. since then I have just read all the song of ice and fire books and was in shock and awe. I've now started reading the first law trilogy by joe abercrombie.
I'll try to do a few of the reading recommendations on here too

I hate waiting.
I esp. hate waiting for other writers to finish their books, hate waiting for publishers to get the books out...I even hate waiting for the downloads. Then I read 'em fast and have to wait some more.
Did I mention I hate waiting?
So I finally broke down and started writing the epic comic fantasies I kept running out of. But I don't want to talk about that. I want to talk about other people's stuff. I just wish they'd all write much faster!
For the rest, I'm living in Coastal North Carolina but only until I can move down to Mickeyland. I'm a Disney fan, a Whovian since the days of the Long Scarf, and am a huge fan of movies that go 'boom!'
David -- My kid is thinking about Texas A&M for her Master's.
Cory -- Your mother has done you a big favor in getting you hooked on books. Say 'thank you'. So many writers started out as a kid on a farm with nothing to do after chores but read.
Daniel -- What you said about GOT is exactly right. I'm so sick of 'reality tv' which has no script, no direction and no plot.
