Introductions - tell us a little about yourself
Sharon, your book looks interesting. Unfortunately I'm still in the last century and haven't purchased an E-reader yet. I'll have to soon.
Thanks, Mike. I resisted buying a kindle. Now I have one and an iPad, and I have to say I really love it. I take my kindle to the kid's practices and such. However, I still buy paper books. Only now I find myself buying an e-book and then buying the paper copies of the ones I really love. So, my kindle has not helped with my book hoarding at all :D
I love paper books. I'm also hooked on audio books. My daughter has a Kindle. I suppose I'll end up with one as so many books are E-book only now. Not like I don't have more than I can ever read, just that certain books are E only. But yes, my shelves are double and even in some cases triple loaded. :)
Audio books are interesting. I never paid much attention to them. My publisher is having one produced, and I promise I won't go on about my book, but that was my first real introduction to audio books. It's fascinating. Most e-books eventually come out in paper, it's just faster to get it out there in e-book. But those are all things I never knew. Anyway, I love books, and having bookshelves that are full, and hanging out in libraries. I don't imagine that will go away, but I'm sure things will change.
I've downloaded so many ebooks that I want to read. It's going to take me a while to get to them all.
I don't use audio books much but I have a few for stories I like. Mst of them are on tape so I should replace them really. they are good to listen to on long journey's
I've never listened to an audio book, although I can see the appeal. Funnilly enough I really enjoy listening to radio plays.
I'm listening (or reading in audio) Dragon Bones now and have 6 or 7 audios at in at the library now. They allow me to do chores or hobbies and "read" at the same time.
I love audio books. I got hooked on them when I had a 1 hour each way commute and now I listen while I walk, do chores, or play jewel quest or something mindless like that. I listened to all the Ice and Fire books on audio. I love the narrator's voice.
I'm Brian, and I'm from Virginia. Like many other group members, my first foray into fantasy was The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I'm a fan of the Wheel of Time and Game of Thrones series and recently discovered Erikson's Malazan: Book of the Fallen series (getting ready to start the fourth book). None of my friends read fantasy, so I'm hoping this group will be a great source of discovering new fantasy novels and authors.
Hi everyone! My name is Rowan, and I love to read, listen to audiobooks, some comics, and I can get a little obsessed with some books. I also love to go and see some movies, I don't like chick-flicks. But the only ones that I like to watch are: A Walk to Remember and The Vow.
Hello my name is Paul Griffiths and I live in the UK ,I like joining groups as I talk to a lot of people I would not have met otherwise, I like all sorts of books from Horror to Young Adult and I'm 50 so still a kid really, well my mind is anyway :)
Hello! My name is Cliff and I am from Texas. I am a student studying graphic design and creative writing, and I have an insatiable appetite for fantasy. Just finished The Blinding Knife today and now moving on to another book.
Nico wrote: "@Devan: Ready Player One! Right?! I've read they're making it a movie. Btw, welcome!"No Way! That book was a blast to read, a movie would be awesome!
Jordan wrote: "Hello! My name is Jordan and I'm from South Carolina. I recently joined the USAF so I regret to say that in the following months I won't be able to keep up with the groups readings and topics. I d..."
Thanks for your willingness to serve! I like GRRM but I had a difficult time with Jordan but strangely, i don't frequently read series.
Hello everyone! My name is Nadine and I'm from Vienna, Austria. I stumbed upon your group and noticed you guys are reading a lot of interesting books so I joined. Like a good girl I've read the group rules before posting. :)
Fantasy is my home genre, if you like. Whenever I stray into other kinds of fiction, I keep coming back to good old fantasy. My favorite authors are Robin Hobb, George R.R. Martin, Scott Lynch and - fantasy unrelated - Chuck Palahniuk. Plus a whole bunch more.
This year, I've had a bunch of new author crushes such as Cat Valente, N.K. Jemisin and Guy Gavriel Kay. I look forward to reading and discovering more great books with you.
Hi, my name is Trent and I'm from Florida. I've been an avid reader of Fantasy books all my life, from Dragon lance to Xanth, to the Incarnations of Immortality series and so on.
I joined this group because the past reads shelf looked really interesting, and I'm looking forward to current and future reads here.
My most recent favorites have been - The Hollows/Rachel Morgan series by Kiim Harrison, the God Killers by David Simpson, and Eyes of the Watchers.
I know the group has read these already but my to read shelf includes Prince of Thorns, and Furies of Calderon.

My name is Todd and I hail from Sevierville, TN just outside of Knoxville. There aren't many fantasy readers in these rural, conservative mountains. With nobody close to share my interests it is cool to have found this group.Growing up I liked Harry Potter, and Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality. Warhammer 40k was some of my favorite SF when I was younger too. The Dan Abnett stuff. I'm one of those guys who considers sci-fi a branch of fantasy.
Of late I've been reading all the fantasy I can get my hands on, from The Dying Earth to The Iron Druid, and everything in between, and can't get enough. Keeps me from watching the news :)
I like to collect first editions and chat fantasy lit, always looking for a good book to read. Thanks for having me in the group, I look forward to being a member.
I grew up on a little farm about halfway between Kingsport and Johnson City in the '50s and '60s. It was almost impossible to find science fiction or fantasy (especially fantasy) even the library...at all. I know what you mean. I live in Nashville now and still don't have a lot of friends around me who read SF/F...Welcome Gary....or Todd??????
Welcome...Other than family members....I get that glazed eye look, when I say anything about science fiction or fantasy.
I had almost given up talking to anyone about this genre.
Thanks for the noticing the name discrepancy. Aliases, the internet, you know, I get all confused who I am and where I am when. Todd though, for real. Thanks for the welcome, and for the solidarity!
Hello,I hope to get a wee bit of enjoyment from discussing fantasy with like minded peoples.
I am from Australia, grew up in the West, moved to the little island they call Tassie and now I'm all set to move to New Zealand( Land of the hobbit )
Studying horticulture and plants at the moment but reading fantasy books and playing fantasy games keep distracting me . Now I will have just a little bit more distraction :)
I am easily pleased when it comes to books. I generally like most, love epic story lines, love good characterization, like something new but the old cliche doesn't bother me either.
looking forward to joining in on discussions .
:) Cheers
Hi, I'm Brian, an aspiring speculative fiction author living near LA (and from La. - Whodat!).I understand that Wheel of Time dragged a bit in the middle, but it's still my favorite series (though even I skip some of the sections when I reread).
I'm absolutely loving the Kingkiller Chronicles.
Beyond those, I've certainly enjoyed a lot of fantasy books, but there aren't any more I would call out as "favorites." I've read just about every series listed in any top fantasy series list.
For those people who are reading this eyes askance because I like WoT, you'll really hate this: I actually enjoyed Twilight. I found it a fun, easy to read series. I wouldn't put it in any kind of category of great literature, but I do like it.
I look forward to meeting y'all.
Thanks!
Hello to everyone.I'm a lifelong reader of books. While I gravitate toward science fiction and fantasy, I remember starting with the Black Stallion series, the Hardy Boys, Brains Benton, The Power Boys, the Troy Nesbitt series (Ah the old days when you could buy a Whitman hardback for $0.99 at the grocery store.)
I currently have a degree in Medieval History and am working on my Masters in English. I spent 15+ years in the military and currently work as a tech writer/editor.
I also do some writing on the side. However, to confirm to the group standards, I'll say, if you're interested, I do have an author page and leave it at that.
I'm currently reading "Control Point" by Myke Cole (who I used to trade blows with a wooden sword with *grin*), and have a to-be-read pile the size of my arm. Also reading "Not Without Laughter" by Langston Hughes for my current class in Multicultural Literature at Bowie State.
This looks like a great group and I hope to contribute more in the future.
welcome. Oh....don't worry about that "to be read list". Most of us have "to be read mountains". We'll have you with a list you have no hope of finishing before you die in no time!
Well, I will say, about the only things bigger than my to-be-read fantasy pile is the to-be-read non-fiction stacks of folktales, pirate books and books on Elizabethean England. Well, that and my growing pile of manga.Trouble with being a writer is trying to balance time to read with time to write (and see the family and clean the house and . . . )
Hello, my name is Danielle. I'm working on editing my first book. I have become somewhat ravenous about paranormal, scifi and fantasy novels as of late (i.e. the last few years) to the detriment off all else. I've recently started up with goodreads and started doing book reviews. I love reading and reviewing books for new authors to help them get their names out there.Other than my obsession (there really is no other word for it) with books, I partake in photography, photo editing, and am working on a PhD in Functional Genomics.
It's nice to meet everyone!
My name is Hannah. I grew up on D&D, Magic: The Gathering, video games, and nerdiness. One can thank my older brother for that. When I was a teenager, I started reading the epic fantasy books I thought I should and would like, but I found myself unable to get into a lot of them because they had too many subplots and characters to keep track of. (Though I was a Harry Potter die-hard during my formative years.)Now I'm older and more patient, I've been giving the fantasy genre another try. I like what I've read so far. Namely, The Witch's Daughter, The Fallen Blade, and Black Ships.
I've always been a sucker for historical fiction. There's actually a great deal of crossover between the fantasy and HF genres.
Hello everyone! My name is Gabriel.I'm so happy that I found this group. Though I've been a member of Good Reads for some time, I've never really been active on the site. I suppose that I never really saw beyond the book lists that people post.
I'm a huge sci-fi/fantasy fan. My favorite authors include:
Brandon Sanderson (I've read everything of his, save for Warbreaker and Legion.)
Tolkien (Does this even need mentioning?)
Robin Hobb
Roger Zelazny (I've only read Lord of Light, but it was amazing!)
Frank Herbert
I look forward to meeting you all! Though it's almost November 30, I may just run out to Barnes and Noble to pick up one of this month's picks. :-D
Welcome to the group Hannah & Gabriel plus all others who have joined lately. If anyone wants to add me as a friend please feel free to do so.
Alan

I'm still stumbling my way around Goodreads and this looks like a fun group. I love fantasy, sci-fi , the paranormal as well as some great historical fiction. I'm just now wading into horror and am surprised at how fascinated I am with the ZA novels. Zombies don't interest me, but the 'people stories' draw me in.
I enjoy George RR Martin, Diana Gabaldon, Kim Harrison. Neil Gaiman and many others.
I look forward to getting to know you all and discovering some new series to read.
