Hi Kelly, fantasy is wonderful isn't it? Pure escape!

I hail from the country of Denmark. You may call me Eli.
I am not overly well-read in the fantasy genre. I have always, except for being extremely fond of Tolkien's writings, been more of a reader of classical literature. But that is changing, it would appear.
I have chewed myself (greedily) through the first 12 and a half books of Robert Jordan's 'Wheel of Time' series and, in addition, I have just begun reading George Martins 'A song of Ice and fire' series. But I will need to broaden my horizon, I'm thinking, perhaps start reading some books that are not necessarily part of huge series. So, thence, I am here.
Nice to meet you.

IRL I am a middle aged lawyer at a large law firm...

I'm also from the legal field (going on twenty years) but not an attorney (support staff ... IT department).

Hi Eli. I love the classics too, Thomas Hardy is a favourite. I'm half way through Game of Thorns myself and am really enjoying it. Welcome.

Hi Erika. I love the Katherine Kerr Deverry series, have you heard of it?

I live in the Atlanta, GA area. I recently graduated college, finally, after working full time and going to school. Now I am in search of my 'dream job' in a writing or editing position. As I greatly near the 30 yrs and older category, I still am taking life as it comes and will be happy with whatever I have at the moment.
I have had a love of reading since I could pick up a book. I like reading fantasy books the most because they are definitely an escape from reality, but I enjoy reading many other types of books as well.
I couldn't give you an all time favorite author, but I really am loving Carol Goodman's books lately. (I actually got to interview her!)
I joined this group to help me get introduced to great new reads and because I actually have time to read what I want to now. =)
I'm looking forward to chatting with everyone! Happy Reading!

Everything started with Tolkien and Dragonlance some years ago, and now I'm completely and absolutely in love with series such as Patrik Rothfuss Kingkiller Chronicles and Brandon Sanderson Mistborn Trilogy ... right now I'm reading Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence...
Game of Thrones, A Wise Man's Fear and The Way of Shadows are waiting for me on my bookshelf ... I guess that's what I'll be reading next ...
Anyway ... I read a little of every genre so I'm open for suggestions and looking forward to chat with everybody ...

Welcome Cherry! I just finished Game of Thrones and loved it!

Prose by Design is a (new) company designed to help aspiring authors self-published. We are looking for people who would like to review books, and/OR be part of virtual blog tours. Is it okay to request this on your group? If yes, under which category would it be appropriate?
Prosebydesign@gmail.com is the company name. Thank you!

You can post this in author self promotion folder. This is a group for readers, not for authors.

Hmm. Was it tricky, or easy?
An' HI! ^.^

I've been with GoodReads for a while but am new to the Fantasy Book Club discussion group.
My favorite new fantasy author is Terry Pratchett. Discovered him in 2011 and have been going through his books ever since. Love some of his phrases. I get odd looks when I break out laughing on the bus to work.
Currently reading Eric.
Shereen :)

I'm Dan, a 28 year old college graduate (BS in Anthropology if anyone was interested) from the frigid state of Wisconsin. The long, brutal winters here (well not so much this winter) leaves a lot of time to stay indoors and read!
I have been reading fantasy since I first picked up Lord of the Rings 20 years ago at the young age of 8. When I was a kid I would tear through books so fast that initially my school at the time thought I had a learning disability since I would sit and wait for other kids to catch up with me. Eventually they learned the truth and I was put into advanced reading classes.
Now that I am out of college and trying to find the elusive "big boy job" I have more time for reading and hope to jump into some discussions with the people here.

For a while in my late teens I presumed I'd outgrown fantasy (hah) and then somebody foisted the first book of the Wheel of Time series on me and that absolutely blew my mind. Still I was ashamed of my new addiction and used to sneak into bookshops and hurry home with the books under my coat.
These days I try to embrace my geekiness more though reading time is more limited than I would like with a wife and three kids shouting me even now as I write this. I'm hoping this group will force me to find more time for my reading and the one book a month should do that. Wow, I used to read about five or six a month in the good old days :)
Favourite authors are:
GRRM
Guy Gavriel Kay
Robin Hobb
R Scott Bakker
Janny Wurts
I'm looking forward to participating in the group

I actually don't have any favorite authors or series. I have primarily read young adult fantasy, and I hope to broaden my horizons by joining this group. :)

I don't work for a living but I am a volunteer at Hospital Radio, in my spare time I love to read books, listen to music (Metal/Rock), watch DVD's, write to penpals and walks.
My fave authors include David Baldacci, Lee Child, Nelson DeMille, Vince Flynn, Tami Hoag, John Grisham, James Herbert and many, many more

Other than writing and knitting, I love to travel. Tokyo and London are my favourite places to visit. I also adore Doctor who and BBCs Sherlock.
I joined because I saw that next you're reading 'Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell' and I've been meaning to read that for so very long. I'm looking forward to it :)

On the Aurealis Awards site, it says: 'Judges are volunteers and are drawn from the speculative fiction community; from diverse professions and backgrounds, and may include academics, booksellers, librarians, published authors, publishing industry professionals, reviewers and enthusiasts. The only qualification necessary is a demonstrated knowledge of and interest in their chosen category.'
So everyone has a chance :) I think this year we had to read 37 books within six months, most being 500+ pages each. Easy for some, a struggle for others. I've loved every minute of it :)

I know just what you mean; my self-enforced abstinence lasted even longer.

I didn't get into reading until my late teens when my dad handed me 'redemption of althalus' by David Eddings which I loved, and then subsequently devoured all of his other books. I have not been without a book since.
I am a big fan of Robert Jordans Wheel of Time series, Tolkien's world, George R.R. Martin, Jacqueline Carey and the 'Black Library' books which some of you may know publish novels set in the Warhammer and Warhammer 40k worlds.
I am really looking forward to being able to talk about the books that I love and get a positive response from people who actually know what I'm talking about :)
Anyway, hope to see you on the discussion boards in the near future. Happy posting! :)
