windy | 13 comments Canada: The Tenderness of Wolves review **
China: The Garlic Ballads: A Novel review ****
Ghana: Wife of the Gods
Finland: Kätkäläinen
India: In Times of Siege: A Novel
Japan: The Book of Loss
Nigeria: Slave Girl
Scotland/UK: Morvern Callar
South Africa: Mhudi and/or Agaat

I plan to add books to the list as I come across them, rather than trying to list everything at once.

windy | 13 comments I found it in the local library - I hadn't heard about it before.

Mikki Windy, how did you like Nervous Conditions? It is my Zimbabwe pick.

windy | 13 comments I liked it a lot, I didn't write a review at the time but I gave it four stars. The main character is unsympathetic in many ways but that also makes it a refreshing read.

I read it last year and really liked it too!

windy | 13 comments Here's my summary for 2012. I read about 30 books under the "around the world" theme. I ended up reading more than one book from some countries, which was actually very nice for comparison purposes -could be nice to do a "paired books" form of the challenge next.

Angola: Going Home **
Argentina: The Buenos Aires Affair **
Canada: The Tenderness of Wolves review **, Crow Lake **
China: The Garlic Ballads: A Novel review ****, Middle Heart **
Congo: A Bend in the River ***
Dominican Republic: The Red of His Shadow: A Novel ***
Finland: Wonderful Women by the Sea ****
India: In Times of Siege: A Novel ***, Bunker 13 (too weird to rate!)
Iran/Persia: Samarkand ***, Cry Of The Peacock ***
Jamaica: Book Of Night Women ****
Japan: The Book of Loss ***
Liberia: The House at Sugar Beach ***
Libya: In the Country of Men ***
Namibia: The Purple Violet of Oshaantu ***
Netherlands: The Coffee Trader **
Nigeria: Slave Girl ***
Rwanda: A Sunday at the Pool in Kigali ***
UK: Morvern Callar ***, The Wasp Factory **
South Africa: Mhudi ***, Agaat ***, The Heart Of Redness ***, The Washing of the Spears ****
Turkey: Snow **
USA (Alaska): Flight of the Goose ****
Zimbabwe: Nervous Conditions ****, African Laughter: Four Visits to Zimbabwe ****, Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight ***

My pick for best book: Flight of the Goose
Special mention for the Nobel Prize during the challenge: Garlic Ballads
Worst of the lot: Snow

Val I really liked "Snow". I thought it was better than his more well known books!
Oh well, we can't always agree on which books are enjoyable.

windy | 13 comments True- I had expected Snow to be one of the more interesting ones on my list, but it didn't work its magic on me, for some reason!
