There is a place outside the town where people are rebelling, and not microchipped or drugged and thus they are imaginative. Three teens, two boys and a girl from this place go to the town. They find themselves in someone's house and there is a great deal of technology. One of the walls is for a moment a communication device where it shows the image of someone talking to them from a room. Like Skype on a wall I suppose.
Spoiler, maybe: They go to this person's bedroom and there is a computer and the computer tests each of them giving them results and the drugs. One of them drinks it to the chagrin of his companions. Then still dopey from the drugs they end up being chased by the police and the one who drank the coloured liquid is killed.

Spoilers, for real:
The other two climb up a tower at the end of the book, and have to put a password into the computer, which is Rumpelstiltskin because no one from the town would have been able to answer it, because they had no interest in stories.
