message 52: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Sounds similar to the fried ice cream you can also get at Mexican restaurants covered in honey or chocolate syrup. Yummmm!

And who needs diet snacks???? Isn't this supposed to be a party?!?!?!?

I love the new shelves. I was just wondering how I was going to fit in some of my other books.

message 65: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments :D Working on it today/tomorrow, Jessica. So keep a look out for the team threads soon. :)

message 66: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I'm sending out RSVP PMs now. Please reply no later than Wednesday, 1 February. If you do not receive a PM from me, please let me know.

Assuming everyone who signed up is 100% in, we'll have 75 players - 15 teams with 5 players each. Once I've received a PM RSVP response, I'll put a check by your name on the signup sheet on page 1. As soon as every player has RSVP'd, I'll randomize players into teams and post team threads. I'll also post a message here letting everyone know that teams are up, so you can begin chatting with your teammates, thinking up a team name, picking a captain, etc.

New rule: Since we have so many teams this round, I will need for each team to pick a captain who will do the following:

(1) Create a post each week listing the books their teammates will be reading (on your team's thread). Update the list as they read, rate, & review their book. (See past BSB rounds for examples of how others have tracked team reads)
(2) Notify me, on the "Stamp Me" thread (to be created) that your team is ready for their shelf stamp. Include a link to your weekly listing of books read by your team, ensuring that each one notates in some way that the books have all been read, rated & reviewed.

Lemme know if you have any questions. :)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yay!!!!

message 68: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Hey guys! I've sent out PMs through player #54 (JackieM), then I got this "Sorry, you have reached our maximum for messages sent per day. This is a safeguard in place to protect our members from unwanted email."

SO, I'll have to send the remaining PMs tomorrow.

Also, Katie (signed up in post #57), your profile is set to private, which doesn't allow me to send a PM. Please RSVP here. Thanks!

message 69: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Well, seems the GR block on PMs is a full 24 hours; meaning I can't send anymore for another 8 hours. So.... if players #d 55-76 (starting with Vivian) would like to send me a PM saying either PLAY or PASS, I'll accept that as your RSVP. Those who I do not hear from after my PM ban is lifted, I'll PM an RSVP request.

Most people (#d 1-54) have already RSVP'd 'PLAY', so we're movin' in the right direction at least. :)

In the meantime, I'll go ahead and create the team threads and work on shuffling shelves for the bingo cards. Please ... no posting to team threads until players are assigned; until then, consider them under construction, thanks!

message 70: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I started doing some prep-work for this with those shelves that I thought it would give me some problems. I'm doing fine so far. ;)

Same here. With the exception of the personal ones, I've created short lists for nearly all of them. I figured it would save some time on Shelf Announcement Days. :-)

message 72: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments You brave women, you! I've thought about doing that the first few rounds but the sheer magnitude of books on the shelves are daunting. I don't want to tackle them until I have to. Good luck!

message 73: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I'm so excited to "meet" my team and get started! Good idea to do some pre-work and see if I can match books I already own or at least want to read.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9661 comments Question about the Free space rules:
(2) A book off of any of the group's new release threads: Any month while the game is in play.

Which threads are concerned by this rule?

LOL, Lethal. I just created a shelf called 'bingo' and added books from those shelves I thought would give me problems. I'm not creating lists...at least I won't until I know which team I belong! :)

Valerie (versusthesiren) | 245 comments Sandy wrote: "I'm so excited to "meet" my team and get started! Good idea to do some pre-work and see if I can match books I already own or at least want to read."

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. :D I'm excited!

Also, I have a question. Graphic novels and books under 200 pages aren't allowed, but what about anthologies like Angels of Darkness and Home Improvement: Undead Edition? Provided you read all the stories, of course. :)

message 77: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Wasn't there an anthology shelf in one of the last rounds?

message 78: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments I second Lethal. I'm not touching them until I have to.

message 79: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments And the book dilema begins... Between books and want to start a couple, but what if "that" shelf is called and I didn't save it?

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1242 comments LethalLovely~I'm Superman & It's My Show wrote: "You brave women, you! :D It took about two hours (closer to 2 1/2) to screen 17 lists. Some, as soon as I saw a book I owned, I wrote it down and didn't look any further. Others, like paranormal mystery, I'm glad I did what I did. Thank goodness for Harry Dresden!

Also, I kept an eye out for dragon books, since there isn't a dragon shelf this round. ;-) I rather know that I can read one for, say, fantasy, and not have to rely on Reader's Choice! :-)

message 81: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Yep but in the last round, most of the time I seemed to lose - either the book I saved is not part of that shelf or the book I just read is part of the shelf that was called. My luck was crappy.

message 82: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I only had probs when it got closer to the end of the month & I was trying to finish challenges.

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1242 comments Sandra wrote: "I only had probs when it got closer to the end of the month & I was trying to finish challenges."

I'm going to skip monthly challenges this time.

Heck, I still might not read the books I chose. Now that I'm nearly caught up on the Psy-Changelings, I might decide to read as many Mercy Thompson, or Dirk & Steele, or Night Huntress books as I can during this round, just so I can be caught up (or close to it). :-)

message 84: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Well, I've cut way back as well, but I find I do need a focus and challenges are good for that.

message 85: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Hi, Ladies! I was finally able to get all of the remaining RSVP request PMs sent out today. A few people left to RSVP, then I'll shuffle for teams. I know everyone's getting anxious. Hang in there a bit longer. I didn't realize GR had a PM daily limit, but I guess it's a good thing in the case of Spam.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ wrote: "Question about the Free space rules:

The "new release threads", which I've been absolutely terrible about keeping current, can be found here . Since I'm horribly behind on updating them, I'll modify the rule for this round. ANY new release book posted within that folder is allowed (assuming it meets the pg# rule).

Valerie wrote: Also, I have a question. Graphic novels and books under 200 pages aren't allowed, but what about anthologies like Angels of Darkness and Home Improvement: Undead Edition? Provided you read all the stories, of course. :) "

Anthologies are allowed, if the player reads the entire book and the entire book is over 200 pages. Some anthologies have less than that, but those you named should be fine. Graphic novels are not allowed.

Please, let me know if I've missed marking anyone that's RSVP'd, if I've missed any questions, or if you have any questions.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments FYI: Free Space Rules have been modified for this round. Please take a look here and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Okay, dumb question alert! How do you find these shelves on goodreads to go look at the books?

message 88: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (tessamc) | 171 comments Y'all are starting to freak me out a little with all the "prep" talk!! Not a dumb question at all Leslie, I've been looking the tags at the top on the right under the group name. The second option is "bookshelf" which will take you to the group's bookshelves. I think it will get clearer once we get started, someone said it's a lot harder to explain than to play!

message 89: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Leslie wrote: "Okay, dumb question alert! How do you find these shelves on goodreads to go look at the books?"

You can't really check them out, exactly, until the game begins, otherwise what would be the fun in that. Steph posts the link when the shelf is called.

message 90: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Jan 31, 2012 09:09PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL! Try not to stress, Ladies. I will give ya a direct link to the appropriate shelf each week, so there will be no confusion. There are typically 1000 more/less on each shelf, so I doubt you'll have a problem finding a book you want to read.

ETA: Oh, and, there are NO dumb questions! ;)

message 91: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Yay! Only 10 more RSVPs pending and then TEAMS! :D

message 94: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Leslie wrote: "Okay, dumb question alert! How do you find these shelves on goodreads to go look at the books?"

Well, if you want to get a sneak peak at ALL the shelves that we'd be reading for this round, just click on one of the Team threads and that would give you the list of shelves.

But we'll just know what we're reading each week once Steph posts that shelf. :)

message 95: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Thanks for all the answers. And y'all may regret the "there are no dumb questions" remark. I can come up with some doozies (is that a word?). I'm so excited to start this! Now on Sunday instead of watching a Superbowl without my Saints, I will be looking for books!

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1242 comments Sandra wrote: "Well, I've cut way back as well, but I find I do need a focus and challenges are good for that."

I'm hoping the yearly challenges will work just as well for that. :-) Hence my lookout for dragon books. ;-)
