Betsy | 605 comments There are two authors in the database: Candice Proctor (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...) and Candice E. Proctor, each with several books. It appears that they are the same person.

I haven't done this before, so I'm a little wary. If I simply change the second author profile to Candice Proctor to match the first one, will they automatically combine? What about the books listed with the second profile? Will they automatically move? Or should I edit the author name on them first?

Lobstergirl Yes, all the books will combine/move automatically. However, you should always check to see if one of the authors has author data - DOB, biography, photo. It usually makes sense to merge the profile without that info into the profile with that info. If for some reason you merged the opposite direction, you would want to copy all of that data so that you could repopulate it into the merged profile.

If it does belong to another author then edit the author name on the books rather than merge the profiles

Betsy | 605 comments I'm pretty sure it does. I had the same thought, but couldn't find any clarity in either World Cat or LOC. And if you look at the author info on the first profile it mentions that book. Anyway I went ahead and did the merge.
