Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Okay, I went ahead and posted tomorrow's Chapter 18's DQs. Listened to the audiobook and composed them while I was waiting for GoodReads to come back up. Anyone want to do Chapter 19?

Thanks for the trailer hyperlink, Kylie! Loved it. Watched a couple of the others, too.

Kylie Lisa Kay's Questions for Chapter 17 & 18

90. Jessamine wants to play cards? What a poor choice for an addict, because never doubt that is what Nate is. Do you agree?

Agree 100%

91. Did Will mean anything else when he told Tessa it would soon “all be settled,” right after she said she wanted to go home to New York?

I don't think so

94. Do you think Will saw Jem kiss Tessa’s hand? Did Sophie? Are they making assumptions? Are you?

I think they did, but neither of them would know his motives

95. I knew Jem’s blood was going to allow that automaton into the Institute’s doors, did you? Poor Agatha. Comments.

96. Eek! I wasn’t expecting Mrs. Dark to be carrying her sister. Nor her cryptic denouncement of de Quincey. Comments.

Carrying the head freaked me out, since i was expecting a whole person

97. Did the identity of the Magister astound you?

It did, a mundane was the last person i suspected

98. Did the title of the chapter give you any clue as to Nate’s betrayal? I must admit I was suspicious, but I didn’t expect his utter “devotion.” And let’s not forget the vanity! I thought maybe it was going to be fear that was the motivating factor. You?

I was suspicious as it seems to convenient to find Nate at the party. Power is quite addictive especially when you have an additive personality like Nate does

99. On a scale of 0-10, with 10 being the best, how cool was the little metal angel? But where and why did it vanish?

I thought that was great, would love to know more about it

101. Finally, an explanation as to why a villain stops to explain the other side’s plans. That always bugs me in books, but here Mrs. Dark reason makes sense. Thoughts.

102. I must admit that I thought Nate was letting something into the Institute, not getting a message out. How about you?

I thought he was trying to escape when i read about the open window

103. Good for Jessamine! No questions here, just three cheers. Comments.

She did will for someone who doesn't want to be a shadowhunter

104. Will goes off alone! That was a surprise to me. Comments.

I would like to think he goes off to be the hero for Tessa

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) I finished the book yesterday. So I skipped some questions for which I did not remember my attitude at that time, I hope you don't mind.

Lisa Kay's Questions for Chapter 17 & 18

88. Do you believe Nate show them the right house in Chelsea?

I thought he did. I don't know why but I did not doubt Nate, I thought he would be glad that he escaped vampire's clutches. And also that someone would help him get rid of the person he was owning money (or something else) to.

89. What do you think of Benedict Lightwood’s edict that Jem and Will are to young? (Drat! I thought they would be then if someone should come for Tessa at the Institute, but now they are gone too.) Why was Nate so surprised by this announcement? Or am I reading too much into it?

I was surprised that they now decided that Will & Jem are too young. I had an impression that they were patrolling the streets from time to time. I agree with Charlotte that they insisted on it, so Gabriel could stay home too. :D
I did not notice Nates surprise. :(

90. Jessamine wants to play cards? What a poor choice for an addict, because never doubt that is what Nate is. Do you agree?

Well Jessamine is not the most practical person. LOL I agree that for gambling addict playing cards is the worst choice ever. :D

91. Did Will mean anything else when he told Tessa it would soon “all be settled,” right after she said she wanted to go home to New York?

I don't know. I can not read Will. He is the most mysterious character in this book to me.

92. Were you suspicious of Mortmain showing up? Think he was really giving information, or seeking some?

I was surprised when Mortmain showed up, but thought that Charlotte scared him so much that he wanted to stay in her good grace by being helpful....

94. Do you think Will saw Jem kiss Tessa’s hand? Did Sophie? Are they making assumptions? Are you?

Yeah, I think they both saw it. Yes, I am making assumptions and think they do too.

95. I knew Jem’s blood was going to allow that automaton into the Institute’s doors, did you? Poor Agatha. Comments.

I did not think of that, I thought that you had to have shadow-hunter blood in your veins (to be a shadow-hunter), not literally have his blood on you... . But very good idea how to get in.

97. Did the identity of the Magister astound you?

Not very much. I doubted that de Quincey was Magister, though he was bait, but I expected Magister to be a down-worlder, not a human.

98. Did the title of the chapter give you any clue as to Nate’s betrayal? I must admit I was suspicious, but I didn’t expect his utter “devotion.” And let’s not forget the vanity! I thought maybe it was going to be fear that was the motivating factor. You?

I knew that Nate was a bit shady, but I was surprised with his complete betrayal. I thought he would be threatened, blackmailed or enchanted, not to willingly agree....

99. On a scale of 0-10, with 10 being the best, how cool was the little metal angel? But where and why did it vanish?

5 - average. I expected it to start doing something. It would get 10 (awesome) if it stayed and helped them fight until the end.
I have no ide where or why it vanished.

102. I must admit that I thought Nate was letting something into the Institute, not getting a message out. How about you?

I also thought that someone sneacked in, and was surprised why they did not searched the place....

104. Will goes off alone! That was a surprise to me. Comments.

I was not surprised. He may deny it, but I think he cares about Tessa.

Nice trailer, but I would be sorry if i watched it before reading the book, it spoils some things...

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments @ Kylie

#90 – ☺

#96 – Yes!!! Completely freaked me out. Scene was written very well, as I could see it in my mind. Spooky and isolated local and all.

#97 – Me too!

#98 – Excellent point.

#99 – Loved it; want to know more.

#102 – This was a clever plot point. So many options with an open window.

#103 – She did! That’s twice now, LOL!

#104 – ☺

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments @ Dragana

#88 – I was about 80% sure he was pointing out the right house; still, I had room for doubt.

#89 – Maybe Nate’s surprise was more evident on the audiobook.

#91 – I’m going to have to agree with you on this one, Dragana.

#92 – Mind Meld!

#94 – I watched one of the other YouTube clips that were posted with the one Kylie posted and the author says that back in Victorian times, due to their reserve, a kiss to the hand meant so much more than it would today. I would have to agree after hearing that and may have to adjust my thinking that it was pretty much innocent.

#97 – Ah! Yes, you were the one that suggested the bait theory; that was a good one. It all totally makes sense in hindsight. Anyone that could be part of those horrendous “Opium Wars” has to be despicable.

#98 – Mind Meld!

#99 – Ah! You are a hard grader, LOL! However, I have to agree with you again about it sticking around until the end.

#102 – See why I love the window idea? So many possibilities.

Hmmm. I'll have to look at it again.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Yes, I think you're right, Dragana! Surprised they showed Jessamine and the parasol. Some people, who hadn't yet read the book, might think that would be Tessa.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Lisa Kay's Questions for Chapter 19

105. Well, Jessamine sure lost points in my book, leaving Thomas like that. Did she have any other choice? Of course, she compounded it by blaming Tessa for all that happened. Sounds like she is a bit power-hungry herself, true?

106. Off and on throughout this chapter Will was having flashbacks to his twelve year old self and “that blasted box” – what do you think that is all about?

107. What do you think Thomas was going to tell Will about Sophie before he gasped his last breath? Something important about her ability, or his profession of love?

108. Well, we got some answers, but plenty of mystery remains. Whose gold watch, engraved with the initials of J.T.S., did Mortmain have in his hand?

109. What will Mortmain do with the Pyxis? Will he be able to access it? How were he and Nate able to vanish? With simple magic?

110. What did you think of Tessa’s Boadicea ruse? Were you worried? Impressed?

111. Still, I’m a bit frustrated that we don’t know exactly what Tessa is yet. You? Though, I must admit to being greatly relieved Mortmain wasn’t her father. Getting a little sick of the incest theme that has been popping up in recent books. Comments.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Lisa Kay's Questions for Chapter 20 – Epilogue

112. Were you surprised that Charlotte asked Tessa to stay? What about her reasons for wanting her to stay?

113. We’ve heard some of the repercussions that Charlotte and Henry face. Thinks these will continue into the next book?

114. What do you think about Tessa’s conversation with Will on the roof? He went from kindness and forgiveness -- to cruelty. Why?

115. Anything revealing in Jem and Tessa’s conversation that stood out to you?

116. The clockwork angel returned to Tessa, much to her satisfaction. Why the delay?

117. Did Will’s seeking out Magnus Bane in the epilogue surprise you? Whatever can he want of him?

118. What did you think of Ms. Clare’s story? Will you be continuing on to the next in the series?

Kylie Lisa Kay's Questions for Chapter 19 and Chapter 20 – Epilogue

105. Well, Jessamine sure lost points in my book, leaving Thomas like that. Did she have any other choice? Of course, she compounded it by blaming Tessa for all that happened. Sounds like she is a bit power-hungry herself, true?

I think Thomas sent her away as he knew they would be over run. Was better to have a shadowhunter with Tessa than dead in the hallway

106. Off and on throughout this chapter Will was having flashbacks to his twelve year old self and “that blasted box” – what do you think that is all about?

I was thinking it was the pyxis (spelling) box, and that it took something from him.

107. What do you think Thomas was going to tell Will about Sophie before he gasped his last breath? Something important about her ability, or his profession of love?

I would like to think it was his profession of love

108. Well, we got some answers, but plenty of mystery remains. Whose gold watch, engraved with the initials of J.T.S., did Mortmain have in his hand?

His lost love maybe?

109. What will Mortmain do with the Pyxis? Will he be able to access it? How were he and Nate able to vanish? With simple magic?

For a mundane he seems very powerful so i think he will find a way and then use it for the destruction of shadowhunters and whoever else stands in his way. An enchantment on the ring he was turning was how he disappeared i think.

110. What did you think of Tessa’s Boadicea ruse? Were you worried? Impressed?

I was impressed with her courage. She had me fooled as well. Was glad Will came when he did though.

111. Still, I’m a bit frustrated that we don’t know exactly what Tessa is yet. You? Though, I must admit to being greatly relieved Mortmain wasn’t her father. Getting a little sick of the incest theme that has been popping up in recent books. Comments.

I never saw Mortmain as her father, since he was mundane. But maybe he helped summon the demon that seduced her mother. At least we know she wasn't adopted or kidnapped but her 'parents'

112. Were you surprised that Charlotte asked Tessa to stay? What about her reasons for wanting her to stay?

It didn't surprise me as Charlotte has grown fond of Tessa. The reason though i thought was pretty weak. Since no-one knows who/what Tessa really is the rest of the enclave may not be happy having her around.

113. We’ve heard some of the repercussions that Charlotte and Henry face. Thinks these will continue into the next book?

I do, as either Charlotte will still be in charge (which i hope) or someone else (hopefully not Gabriel s family)

114. What do you think about Tessa’s conversation with Will on the roof? He went from kindness and forgiveness -- to cruelty. Why?

I hated Will for that conversation. It showed how self absorbed he was.

115. Anything revealing in Jem and Tessa’s conversation that stood out to you?

got a mental blank to answer this one atm. :)

116. The clockwork angel returned to Tessa, much to her satisfaction. Why the delay?

Maybe to recharge or maybe it went back to the person that made it temporarily

117. Did Will’s seeking out Magnus Bane in the epilogue surprise you? Whatever can he want of him?

I didn't expect that. I'm thinking that Will lost the ability to feel love and happiness when he opened the box and he wants to be able to feel again.

118. What did you think of Ms. Clare’s story? Will you be continuing on to the next in the series?

I already have next book lined up on my ipad. and incorporated into my challenges :)

Gin Lisa Kay's Questions for Chapter 17

88. Do you believe Nate show them the right house in Chelsea?
I already know the answer to this, but I had a suspicion he was either lying or just didn't know what he was talking about
89. What do you think of Benedict Lightwood’s edict that Jem and Will are to young? (Drat! I thought they would be then if someone should come for Tessa at the Institute, but now they are gone too.) Why was Nate so surprised by this announcement? Or am I reading too much into it?
I think Charlotte gave a great explanation as to why she thought he said they were to young. I did notice Nate's surprise also
90. Jessamine wants to play cards? What a poor choice for an addict, because never doubt that is what Nate is. Do you agree?
I think it was thoughtless, but it is very hard to walk around what an addict can or can't do.
91. Did Will mean anything else when he told Tessa it would soon “all be settled,” right after she said she wanted to go home to New York?
That comment made absolutely not sense to me. It still doesn't, and I've finished to book
92. Were you suspicious of Mortmain showing up? Think he was really giving information, or seeking some?
I was very suspicious of Mortmain. Way to convenient of a time to just randomly show up, but I also thought he was the Magister from the beginning
93. Drat! Supposedly both of the Dark Sisters are alive. That can’t be good. Comments. Who will be able to do something about the binding spell? Charlotte, Henry, Tessa, Will?
If I would have picked anyone it would have been Charlotte. At this point I still didn't think they would prevent them from being created though
94. Do you think Will saw Jem kiss Tessa’s hand? Did Sophie? Are they making assumptions? Are you?
Didn't he kiss her hand? Yes I thought Will and Sophie both saw it
95. I knew Jem’s blood was going to allow that automaton into the Institute’s doors, did you? Poor Agatha. Comments.
Never made the connection. In my mind I was thinking shadow hunter, not their blood
96. Eek! I wasn’t expecting Mrs. Dark to be carrying her sister. Nor her cryptic denouncement of de Quincey. Comments.
I think I expected them to come to an empty house
Lisa Kay's Questions for Chapter 18

97. Did the identity of the Magister astound you? It did not completely take me by surprise, but I wasn't expecting it at that point in the book. I had come to terms with it being DeQuincey already

98. Did the title of the chapter give you any clue as to Nate’s betrayal? I must admit I was suspicious, but I didn’t expect his utter “devotion.” And let’s not forget the vanity! I thought maybe it was going to be fear that was the motivating factor. You?
I never read title chapters, I feel like they give too much away. This was the part that i did not expect at all. I didn't trust Nate, but didn't think he would betray his sister quite to that degree. He appeared to actually hate her and that shocked me

99. On a scale of 0-10, with 10 being the best, how cool was the little metal angel? But where and why did it vanish?
I would definitely say a 10, I want one! What I want to know, is if Harry made it do that or if it was already like that?
100. Okay, what is with the cat in the cage? I guess it has something to do with necromancy and not a binding spell. Comments?
I'm guessing she had to sacrifice the cat
101. Finally, an explanation as to why a villain stops to explain the other side’s plans. That always bugs me in books, but here Mrs. Dark reason makes sense. Thoughts.

102. I must admit that I thought Nate was letting something into the Institute, not getting a message out. How about you?
I just assumed he was trying to escape
103. Good for Jessamine! No questions here, just three cheers. Comments.
Maybe this will teach her who to put her faith in

104. Will goes off alone! That was a surprise to me. Comments.
Not to me. I think he really cares about Tessa, whether he admits it or not

#105 – Ah! Excellent point.

#106 – Hmmm. Oh, now you have my mind buzzing. LOL!

#107 – Me too. ☺

#108 – That is what I was thinking at the beginning of the book, way back when. But, this seems to be a masculine pocket watch (though just ‘watch’ on a gold chain was written). And he “wanted a girl”, so I’m a bit stumped.

#109 – Good Gravy Beans! He was twisting that ring! How could I have missed that?

#110 – Yup. I was fooled too.

#112 – Agreed. The reason wasn’t the strongest it could have been.

#114 – He was!

#115 – ☺

#116 – Oh, great answer! You’ve got my brain buzzing again, LOL!

#118 – ☺

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments @ gin

#88 – There was a part of me that thought he didn’t know what he was talking about.

#91 – LOL! Okay. I’d have to go back to it, but I think Will was conflicted. It was a bit vague. Maybe it will be cleared up in one of the future books.

#92 – You did! Clever you! I did at the very, very beginning (I think I asked that as a question), then dismissed it. I was easily lead down the garden path to de Quincey.

#93 – Yes, that was quite a switch around; I totally believe the Dark Sister was back alive.

#97 – Me too!

#98 – True for me too; the hate was quite a shock.

#103 – LOL! True again.

#104 – Yes, I think so too.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Lisa Kay's Questions for Chapter 19

105. Well, Jessamine sure lost points in my book, leaving Thomas like that. Did she have any other choice? Of course, she compounded it by blaming Tessa for all that happened. Sounds like she is a bit power-hungry herself, true?

Seems like the person Jessamine most cares about is - Jessamine. But I agree with her, I doubt she could do anything, only die with him. It's better to live & revenge later.

106. Off and on throughout this chapter Will was having flashbacks to his twelve year old self and “that blasted box” – what do you think that is all about?

My first association is Pandora's box. although, all other clues do not have any connection to that. it seems that box somehow influenced him / enchanted him... Like everyone he cares about dies or he starts hating everybody he cares about or he must hurt everyone he cares about....
Maybe I am just making excuses for him, because I really liked him, but didn't like the way he hurt Tessa.

107. What do you think Thomas was going to tell Will about Sophie before he gasped his last breath? Something important about her ability, or his profession of love?

Probably wanted to ask them to take care of her...

108. Well, we got some answers, but plenty of mystery remains. Whose gold watch, engraved with the initials of J.T.S., did Mortmain have in his hand?

Maybe the man who made original design for clockwork creatures and Mortmain needed some extra tips. :D

109. What will Mortmain do with the Pyxis? Will he be able to access it? How were he and Nate able to vanish? With simple magic?

Well Mortmain turned out to be very resourceful, so I think he will somehow manage to open & use demon energy stored in Pyxis...

110. What did you think of Tessa’s Boadicea ruse? Were you worried? Impressed?

Very impressing. She fooled me.

111. Still, I’m a bit frustrated that we don’t know exactly what Tessa is yet. You? Though, I must admit to being greatly relieved Mortmain wasn’t her father. Getting a little sick of the incest theme that has been popping up in recent books. Comments.

Yeah, I am also a little bit frustrated that nothing big was resolved or discovered yet. Writer was baiting us trough entire book, and then left all those things dangling to bait us to read the next book.

Lisa Kay's Questions for Chapter 20 – Epilogue

112. Were you surprised that Charlotte asked Tessa to stay? What about her reasons for wanting her to stay?

I was hoping Crarlotte will ask Tessa to stay. After all she is orphan in London without money and does not know anyone. But I though her reasons will be more humanitarian...

113. We’ve heard some of the repercussions that Charlotte and Henry face. Thinks these will continue into the next book?

Yes, I think that probably there will be battle with Longwoods in the next book for the control over Institute.

114. What do you think about Tessa’s conversation with Will on the roof? He went from kindness and forgiveness -- to cruelty. Why?

I still think that it is some kind of spell that forces him to act this way, or he is afraid she will get hurt if she stays so he is trying to scare her away...

115. Anything revealing in Jem and Tessa’s conversation that stood out to you?

I don't know it is my fear of love triangles, but I am afraid that Jem likes Tessa too...

116. The clockwork angel returned to Tessa, much to her satisfaction. Why the delay?

No idea. Maybe went to Tessa father to let him know what happened? (Just got the weird idea that pendant is gift from her father to her mother...)

117. Did Will’s seeking out Magnus Bane in the epilogue surprise you? Whatever can he want of him?

Probably some way to help him - either about Jem's illness or about Will's attitude to people... (as I said, I think it's because of some spell)

118. What did you think of Ms. Clare’s story? Will you be continuing on to the next in the series?

Not bad. Has humor, quick pace,

#111 – Yes, and I swore I wasn’t going to read any more books where the last book had yet to be written. **shrugs** Oh, well. Still loved it.

#113 – Ah! Maybe.

Gin Lisa Kay's Questions for Chapter 19

105. Well, Jessamine sure lost points in my book, leaving Thomas like that. Did she have any other choice? Of course, she compounded it by blaming Tessa for all that happened. Sounds like she is a bit power-hungry herself, true?
Ith made me wonder if the real reason she doesn't want to be a shadow hunter is because she's scared. I don't think she is power hungry, but one who puts down others to cope with her own insercurities.
106. Off and on throughout this chapter Will was having flashbacks to his twelve year old self and “that blasted box” – what do you think that is all about?
I'm guessing it has something to do with why he left his parents, but I'm not sure what
107. What do you think Thomas was going to tell Will about Sophie before he gasped his last breath? Something important about her ability, or his profession of love?
I would think maybe his profession of love. He did just sacrifice his life for hers
108. Well, we got some answers, but plenty of mystery remains. Whose gold watch, engraved with the initials of J.T.S., did Mortmain have in his hand?
I can't even begin to imagine who that is. I guess something we will have to wait for in the next book
109. What will Mortmain do with the Pyxis? Will he be able to access it? How were he and Nate able to vanish? With simple magic?
I'm guessing he'll use the box to give life to his little machines. I'm not sure if he even knows how to get into the box yet. I imagine magic would be the only way they could have vanished like that
110. What did you think of Tessa’s Boadicea ruse? Were you worried? Impressed?
I was thinking at first that maybe she was able to heal herself when she shifted. I actually liked her way better. Seemed more like intelligence rather than a happy accident

111. Still, I’m a bit frustrated that we don’t know exactly what Tessa is yet. You? Though, I must admit to being greatly relieved Mortmain wasn’t her father. Getting a little sick of the incest theme that has been popping up in recent books. Comments.
I still don't know what she is either. I don't think it is a warlock though. I know he hinted at that , but I still think she is something different. Fortunately that has not been a common them with my books, but yes I am glad he is not either.

Gin Lisa Kay's Questions for Chapter 20 – Epilogue

112. Were you surprised that Charlotte asked Tessa to stay? What about her reasons for wanting her to stay?
I wasn't surprised at all that she wanted Tessa to stay. I just assumed she would. Her reasons kind of shocked me, but maybe that was what Tessa needed to her to feel useful
113. We’ve heard some of the repercussions that Charlotte and Henry face. Thinks these will continue into the next book?
I'm guessing yes. I imagine them keeping the institute will be a big part of the story
114. What do you think about Tessa’s conversation with Will on the roof? He went from kindness and forgiveness -- to cruelty. Why?
What better way to distance he from hime and get a kiss out of it too. For some reason he does not want to get close to anyone
115. Anything revealing in Jem and Tessa’s conversation that stood out to you?
I definitly think that Jem likes Tessa. I also wonder if maybe he thinks the feeling is mutual
116. The clockwork angel returned to Tessa, much to her satisfaction. Why the delay?
Maybe it never left, but watched over her
117. Did Will’s seeking out Magnus Bane in the epilogue surprise you? Whatever can he want of him?
That did surprise me. I'm thinking it has something to do with the box, though I don't know why.
118. What did you think of Ms. Clare’s story? Will you be continuing on to the next in the series?
I was pleasantly surpised with this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Almost a 5 star for me, more like a 4.5. I will definitely continue with the next book. Thank you guys for including me in this buddy read, it is something I probably would not have read otherwise. Let me know if anyone wants to buddyread the next book in the series, I would definitely participate.

#112 – Good point.

#113 – I didn’t think that until everyone started saying so. I’m convinced.

#114 – Oh, that makes him a bit . . . twisted? Maybe?

#115 – I initially thought they were just friends, but I’m changing my mind.
#116 – Oh! I hadn’t thought of that.

#117 – Yes, the box and Jem. . . I think, LOL!

#118 – I’d love to do a “buddy read” of the next one. I’m pretty booked this month, but maybe next? That would be nice, if we could work it out. All of you made me look at things differently. And made it more FUN!

Gin @lisa Kay just let me know about the buddy read. Next month would be great for me also.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Okay, Gin. I had someone very close to me just enter Hospice this week, so we'll see what this month and the next bring me.

This topic is open for discussion of Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

Book Synopsis:
In a time when Shadowhunters are barely winning the fight against the forces of darkness, one battle will change the course of history forever. Welcome to the Infernal Devices trilogy, a stunning and dangerous prequel to the New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments series.

The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them....

It's fine. You can join later if you want. I'm doing a marathon of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices so I'm reading them back to back. :)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments I was about to ask with you guys have already read some book from The Mortal Instruments previously.

Do you think that I'll miss much if I start this world with The Infernal Devices?

I just read the prologue to see how the writing was and it's quite good. I liked the sense of mystery that hangs in the air.

Caron (diminishingthoughts) | 210 comments The characters aren't the same but it's in the same world. It doesn't matter what you read first. All the orders I've heard of seemed to lead people down the same path. I myself am reading it in order of publication.

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3792 comments I haven't read The Infernal Devices series yet either. I already own this one, so I figured I would start with this series and then see how it goes.

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Chapter 1: Wow, this Change thing sounds really strange.
