#12 – That would make sense, that they live among the mundane later. We’ll see.

#13 – I’m thinking demon attack caused Sophie’s scar; too. Great minds think alike. ☺ You think Sophie has a soft spot for Will? Huh. Could be. Certainly “some history.”

#14 – I agree.

#16 – Hmmmm; an arranged marriage? Could be. Yes, Henry is like the absent minded professor. Don’t know about dementia, LOL!

#17 – Yes, a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.

#18 – Again, Mind Meld! LOL!

Gin In chapters 3-5 we are introduced to the Institute and his residents. I find them all intriguing and full of secrets.... So excuse me if I ask a lot of questions, but I would like to know what you think. :)

Questions for Chapter 3 - Chapter 5

12. What are your impressions about Institute and Shadowhunters role in general? Is it a little bit sad to fight without pause until you die?
Is it just me, or did you find it strange that complex is so big and can host hundreds of warriors but is mostly empty.... Where are they?

Now that you mention it, I guess it is a little strange that there is no one else there. I guess it would be kind of sad to fight until you die, but at the same time rewarding. It's important to me to have a job that means something and not just a paycheck.

13. What do you think how did the maid Sophie got the scar on her face?
And why does she hate Will? Did you believe the explanation she gave to Tessa or you think there is something more?
I'm guessing some type of demon attack or something. I also just assumed that however it happened her family must have died during that time. I never really second guessed her explanation of why she was rude to Will. He's kind of being made out to be sort of cocky now. I don't know maybe so that we start to like Jem better. I definitely see a little love triangle brewing

14. Do you agree with Tessa and dislike Jessamine?
To quote Tessa: what is so dreadful about Institute? Why does Jessamine hates it there?
I don't dislike Jessamine. Everyone has there own quirky ways of coping with like, but that does not necessarily make them a bad person. I think that eventually her and Tessa will be good friends

15. Jem is back again to tease Will. But he is obviously not well. What do you think is the problem?

i'm not sure what the problem is, but it is obviously something they do not want anyone to know about. The two of them must have done something they were not supposed to, resulting in him getting hurt

16. Then there are Charlotte and Henry. I though they were such a cute couple. But then this sentence near the end of chapter 5 got me all puzzled: "she had been advised enough times—not to force on Henry affection he probably did not want" Obviously, there is some secret there also...
maybe something traumatic happened to him. i also thought maybe he is one who ignores everyone when he is absorbed in his work.

17. I find myself often smiling over puns and teasing in this book. What is your favorite scene/dialog so far?
I'd have to say I enjoyed Tessa and Will bickering in the library

18. Yes I know that I forgot our main heroine Tessa completely. She is so cute struggling and trying to be a proper lady... And failing. I noticed some blushes and shy (and not so shy) glances. What do you think, in whom will she fall in love - Will or Jem? Or someone third we did not meet so far...

Ultimately Will, but she might get sidetracked with Jem for a bit. Will seemed to back off and when he noticed his own interest in her. I think he might have some issues that will initially prevent them from forming a relationship
19. Any other mystery / secret / weird behavior you noticed and is bugging you? Tell us your observations or share your crazy conspiracy theories. ;)
nothing comes to mind. I think you actually covered it all. Great questions

message 106: by Gin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gin @Lisa Kay I forgot about Mr. Mortmain, I was also wondering if he could be magister.

message 107: by Gin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gin @Kylie I thought the same of Jessamine. She's obviously spoiled and rich, but she is definitely coping with something.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) @Kylie

14. I still can't make up my mind about Jess too.

15. I was thinking about tuberculosis because he coughed blood. But you are right. I never thought of some illness that strikes only at shadow hunters.

17. The joke about cooking vs love is one of my favorite ones too.

@Lisa Kay

13. I am also suspicious that Will is somehow to blame for her scar and that's the real reason Sophie acts that way around him... But we will see...

18. Yes story-line goes for several books. I am not a fan of love-triangles, so I am hopping Cassandra Clare will skip it here.

@Gin

19. Thanks, I tried to cover all the things that 'bugged' me during reading. :)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Sorry for the delay, something personal came up. I've listened to Chapter 6 and will work on Chapter 7. I just wanted to give the DQs for Chapter 6 to start on, if you desired.

Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapter 6

20. Wait a minute. You mean the Dark House that Tessa stayed in for six weeks with the Dark Sisters was a brothel? Or am I confused?

21. What was that young girl with the “dull-brown mousy hair”? Why did her lips make a “grinding” sound and her voice sound like “gears grating”? And what is this army “born neither of Heaven nor Hell” all about?

22. Is Jessamine too much or what? LOL! What do you think of her plans for Tess? She spoke of Henry conducting experiments in the cellar – what kind? Did Henry really just marry Charlotte to gain access to the Institute, or does he truly love her?

23. Golden vines with diamonds growing from the tips? Oh, dear! It is a wonder any of the Nephilim are left. What did you think of how Jessamine took the goblin out? And her distraught reaction afterwards? Her showing Tessa her “doll house” – and subsequent conversation? Comments.

24. So, Mr. Mortmain knew what Charlotte and Henry were all along. And he introduced Nate to the Pandemonium Club! Charlotte is tenacious, to say the least, isn’t she? At least she is a good poker player, LOL!

25. Uup! We have a name to put to The Magister. De Quincey. And he is a vamp. Comments.

#12 – Yes, just working for a paycheck gets old real quick.

#13 – I’m kind of glad I’m listening to the audiobook on this one b/c Will has a humorous, self-deprecating charm that doesn’t come across in the written word. Not that he isn’t still “cocky”, LOL!

#14 – I think you are right!

#15 – You mean while they were out investigating? Really? Okay, I’ll have to go back and re-read a section; which one would you suggest?

#17 – Yes, that was fun.

#18 – Again, I think you’re right.

#17 – I re-listened to some of the book and I also liked:
“Goodness,” Tessa said to the back of his head. “If you keep seeing Six-Fingered Nigel like this, he’ll expect you to declare your intentions.”

Jem choked on his tea.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapter 7

26. So, I’m thinking Sophie received her scar from her previous employer’s son. You? She believes Will and he are in the same type of man. Do you? Could Will prove her wrong before the end of the book?

27. What did you think of Henry Branwell’s laboratory? His clockwork girl or automaton? I must say, I wasn’t expecting it (her?) to have a human heart.

28. No questions here, but I have to tell you, I was LMAO over the scene with Henry’s Phosphor. You?

29. Were you surprised that Tessa did NOT reveal that Jessamine killed the goblin to Will or Jem? Which one will find out first?

30. Comments on Henry wanting to examine Tessa’s necklace? Would you let him, if you had something of equal sentimental value?

31. Eep! Lady Belcourt sounds a shady character at best. The first thing I thought of was “double agent”, LOL! Do you have any concerns about her before reading Chapter 8?

Kylie Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapter 6 & 7

20. Wait a minute. You mean the Dark House that Tessa stayed in for six weeks with the Dark Sisters was a brothel? Or am I confused?

It was a brothel but had been relocated or shut-down for Tessa's stay. Maybe you got to scratch that itch with the robot/human woman. Which just sounds so much worse. :)

21. What was that young girl with the “dull-brown mousy hair”? Why did her lips make a “grinding” sound and her voice sound like “gears grating”? And what is this army “born neither of Heaven nor Hell” all about?

I'm thinking the army is either the mundane since they have this whole mundane club though it could be argues they are born of heaven. So i'm leaning more to the cyborg people army.

I guess all the grinding was due to Tessa breaking her. So they left her behins like a broken toy.

22. Is Jessamine too much or what? LOL! What do you think of her plans for Tess? She spoke of Henry conducting experiments in the cellar – what kind? Did Henry really just marry Charlotte to gain access to the Institute, or does he truly love her?

I couldn't live with Jessamine myself, would want to strangle her by the end of the month. :)

Henry's love of gadgets would need him to have some place to work, i didn't expect it to be so big though or elaborate.

I'm still thinking arranged marriage but he does care for Charlotte just his little toys more.

23. Golden vines with diamonds growing from the tips? Oh, dear! It is a wonder any of the Nephilim are left. What did you think of how Jessamine took the goblin out? And her distraught reaction afterwards? Her showing Tessa her “doll house” – and subsequent conversation? Comments.

I think Jessamine reacted as she did, cause she doesn't see that as woman's work. That attacking the goblin should b done by the husband/butler or such. It also is an added reminder she is a shadowhunter first, lady second.

The doll house scene shows how much she wants to hold onto her roots before mum and dad died. It also showed how young she actually was. But the dollhouse seems to be equal in sentimental value as Tessa's necklace. Even if it isn't diamonds.

24. So, Mr. Mortmain knew what Charlotte and Henry were all along. And he introduced Nate to the Pandemonium Club! Charlotte is tenacious, to say the least, isn’t she? At least she is a good poker player, LOL!

I'm not liking Mr Mortmain, i feel he knows more than he is letting on. He comes across as a man that values power over another mans life. Out of his hundreds of employees why take the time to introduce Nate to The Pandemonium Club unless Nate had some kind of expertise that they needed.

I love how she took charge even if that wasn't the way things were done. She is the first step towards the woman's movement to be heard.

25. Uup! We have a name to put to The Magister. De Quincey. And he is a vamp. Comments.

First thing i thought was, he planned on turning Tessa into a vampire as her gift would be enhanced due to the vampire powers, then i thought she would be held as a human prisoner to do there bidding.

I'm sure the reasoning behind the arrangement will come to light eventually

26. So, I’m thinking Sophie received her scar from her previous employer’s son. You? She believes Will and he are in the same type of man. Do you? Could Will prove her wrong before the end of the book?

I'm thinking the same thing, the son wanted her and cause he couldn't he lashed out.

They may have similar personalities and both may of been players Will seems to have a string of woman anyhow. Though Will doesn't seem to be the type that lashes out when he doesn't get what he wants.

27. What did you think of Henry Branwell’s laboratory? His clockwork girl or automaton? I must say, I wasn’t expecting it (her?) to have a human heart.

I thought his lab was huge compared to what i was picturing. Though i'm glad it had good lighting or it would feel creepy since it holds the dead still within.

The clockwork girl was something way before the era of the book. Which made it all the more fascinating. But at least they solved the riddle of the deaths and disappearances. I guess our bodies are made of of electricity so there is no reason she couldn't have human parts. With the right electricity you could keep us going, its what pacemakers help do now.

28. No questions here, but I have to tell you, I was LMAO over the scene with Henry’s Phosphor. You?

That was funny, esp when Harry blinded them all causing Will to fall breaking half the dishes.

29. Were you surprised that Tessa did NOT reveal that Jessamine killed the goblin to Will or Jem? Which one will find out first?

As Tessa feels like the newcomer/guest i wasn't surprised she stayed quiet. This is a new world to her and she doesn't know all the written and unwritten rules to live there. So sometimes silence is the best thing to do.

30. Comments on Henry wanting to examine Tessa’s necklace? Would you let him, if you had something of equal sentimental value?

I would of been concerned like Tessa, but Henry does seem to be at home with his toys, so the necklace will be safe, Tessa may also be thinking if she learns more about the necklace she may learn more about her past since she doesn't have much from then.

31. Eep! Lady Belcourt sounds a shady character at best. The first thing I thought of was “double agent”, LOL! Do you have any concerns about her before reading Chapter 8?

I don't trust her, everyone in this book seems to have their own secrets and motives. Now strangers only want to help if they met Tessa and most likely 'see her gift'. I can see why Tessa went without hesitation if it was my family on the line i would too, but i probably would of asked what she wanted like Will said before i ran out the door.

I hope there isn't to many random letters in this, my 1 year old wanted to help type. I think i have deleted them all but that's why they are there if i missed some. :)

#20 – Eeeek! LOL!

#21 – Hmmmm. Interesting theory.

#22 – I think Henry loved Charlotte too; maybe he’ll choose her over his “toys” b/f the end of the book.

#23 – Excellent point about it being a reminder that she is a “Shadowhunter first, lady second”!!

#24 – Good point about Mr. Mortmain taking Nate, of all his employees. I wonder if Nate has the same ability as Tessa.

#26 – Nope, Will doesn’t seem the type to lash out.

#27 – Yes! His lab was much, MUCH bigger that I expected. Great point about the electricity.

#28 – ☺

#29 – Good point. I think she instinctively knew Jessamine’s wanting to keep it secret. Reveals a lot about both of them.

#30 – I would be really worried, LOL! Don’t know if I would give it up to him. Still, he may figure out a vital element to the story – and Jem said he’d be okay with it.

#31 – Yes, I would have too for my brother’s sake.

Awww! One-years-old and already on the computer. ☺ Cute.

Kylie Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapter 8

32. Whatever does Will mean by “demon pox” and why does Charlotte say there is not such thing?

demon pox sounds like some lethal disease with no cure. Maybe that's what he thinks Jem has. The illness could be the false or maybe Charlotte doesn't want to admit Jem has it and by saying the name out loud makes it all the more true.

33. So, what did you think of the beautiful vampire, Lady Belcourt? Do she and Will have some sort of “romantic” or flirtatious history? What about her statement regarding de Quincey being the “most dangerous vampire in London” and “any vampire living with London is subject to his whim” – not to mention breaking the law by torturing and killing humans? And is Lady B tempting Tessa just a little too much with the possibility of Nate being at the party at de Quincey’s?

I don't think there is any romantic history. Just a tentative friendship. She knew who he was therefore she would ow he is a shadow hunter. I think she respects him and he her in return.

From past books I've read vampires have their own hierarchy so he may be head of the London division of vampires. And by being the head and so old he thinks he is above the law hence the killing of humans. He plays by the rules at face value but has his shadowy deals going in the background as he shows himself as an alliance to be trusted.

I think Lady B is playing on Tessa's need to find her brother for her own gain. But from the sounds of it she will get a friend from Lady B if she helps her with her own agenda of destroying De Quincey.

34. What was the freakiest to you about Tessa’s transformation into Lady Belcourt?

the bit that got me was Tessa no longer had a heartbeat. It was as if her soul jumped into Lady B's body. Not just a transformation.

35. What did Lady B mean by Tessa NOT regretting it? Pretty cryptic, that. Comments.

an alliance with Lady B and maybe a hand in a time of need in the future. She comes across as a lady that expects to pay for something to do be done. Just not expect it to be done.

36. Alright, I translated the phrase: Amor Verus Numquam Moritur and it means True Love Never Dies. Do you believe Lady Belcourt’s story and motivation against de Quincey with regards to her forbidden love of a werewolf?

lol I translated it to when I first read it. I figured the necklace was a gift from a loved one so the story of the lycanthrope seems plausible. A downworlder Romeo and Juliet story.

37. Are you picking up any clue from Tessa’s readings of The Shadowhunter’s Codex?

so far I'm seeing it as a way of describing what they are talking about. Instead of asking 100s of questions Tessa is doing her own research into the accords, clave and downworlders.

38. Well, Tessa’s clockwork angle necklace is back safe in her hands. Phew! Do you think Henry altered it in any way? Did his cleaning it help it to work better, somehow?

I doubt that he altered it unless one could put a tracker or such in there. His cleaning probably did nothing but if it holds it's own power it may be stronger. I'm starting to think it is a key to unknown lock. But that's just a theory.

39. We learn our suspicions of Sophie’s scar were correct. Comments. I wonder who her employers were. Do you think it is relevant?

for her to think she is crazy due to her sight I'm thinking the previous employ was with mundanes. As know she knows what she has and more about herself she feels at home there.

40. What did you think of Charlotte’s comments to Tessa on love and waking up?

I think it was her way on dwelling on the past. She has been given a gift and to use it to benefit herself and people around her.

I also think she was trying to tell Tessa that unless she can accept and love herself for who she is now, she won't find someone to love the real her.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments @ Kylie

#33 – I think you’re probably right about de Quincey believing his is “above the law”. I agree with you about Lady B playing Tessa for her own gain. A friendship? I hadn’t thought of that!

#34 – Yeah, the zero heartbeat was pretty freaky.

#35 – Interesting theory! I like it.

#36 – I know a little Latin, but not that much, LOL! Thank goodness for Google Translator.

#37 – Ah!

#38 – I’m thinking cleaning it helped somehow. A key? Huh. I hadn’t thought of that. It does kind of look like one.

#39 – Oh, good catch about her thinking she is crazy. So, no possibility of them belong to the Pandemonium Club? Probably not.

#40 – Love your insight on this one, Kylie.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) I'm a little bit behind. Finished reading chapter 6 & 7 but did not have the time yesterday to answer the questions. I hope I will be better luck today and that I will catch up. :)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapter 6

20. Wait a minute. You mean the Dark House that Tessa stayed in for six weeks with the Dark Sisters was a brothel? Or am I confused?

I think it was a retired brothel. :)

21. What was that young girl with the “dull-brown mousy hair”? Why did her lips make a “grinding” sound and her voice sound like “gears grating”? And what is this army “born neither of Heaven nor Hell” all about?

Since I already read the chapter 7 I know a little bit more about what she is, but based on descriptions in chapter 6 I only guessed she was Miranda (the servant).

22. Is Jessamine too much or what? LOL! What do you think of her plans for Tess? She spoke of Henry conducting experiments in the cellar – what kind? Did Henry really just marry Charlotte to gain access to the Institute, or does he truly love her?

Jessamine is just trying to escape her destiny of being a Shadow-hunter. Her plan about using Tess is not bad, but problem is Tess will never agree to it.
I think that Henry is crazy scientist type. And his experiments are probably random, based on how his inspiration is that day.
I am starting to doubt that Charlotte's and Henry's marriage was more of a business arrangement. But I think they trough time started to care for each other.

23. Golden vines with diamonds growing from the tips? Oh, dear! It is a wonder any of the Nephilim are left. What did you think of how Jessamine took the goblin out? And her distraught reaction afterwards? Her showing Tessa her “doll house” – and subsequent conversation? Comments.

I am really sorry for Jessamine. I hope she will accept that she will be a great shadowhunter...

24. So, Mr. Mortmain knew what Charlotte and Henry were all along. And he introduced Nate to the Pandemonium Club! Charlotte is tenacious, to say the least, isn’t she? At least she is a good poker player, LOL!

I think that Mr. Mortmain more sold Nate to Pandemonium Club. Who knows what special ability Nate has... Maybe the same as Tess?

25. Uup! We have a name to put to The Magister. De Quincey. And he is a vamp. Comments.

None. Waiting to see what we will discover more...
I really like this book. We constantly find out something new, so we are not bored but also mystery is still there... :)

Kylie Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapter 9

41. What do you think of Tessa attempts to conduct herself like a Baroness? Why do you think Tessa is unable to “touch” Lady Belcourt’s thoughts? Will she eventually be able to?

under the circumstances she is doing well, considering she hadn't met a vampire till 2 days ago.
I'm thinking she can't touch Lady Belacourts thoughts as she is a downworlder and maybe they have different brain mapping to us mundane. Once she practices her power and gets stronger with it I can't see why she would be able to touch them.

42. Why would Jem warn Will not to start a fight with Gabriel Lightwood? Did you expect the dislike to steam from a woman virtue? And Gabriel’s brother is worse? That Christmas party must have been a doozy. BTW, on the audio, Gabriel Lightwood has a bit of a slip (“wag” for “rags”).

with all the head honchos sitting at the table it wouldn't be smart to start a fight espically one is daddy of the person he wants to fight. There must be more to it maybe a women's virtue was breaking point. Gabriels brother must be a piece of work as I wanted to slap Gabriel myself.

43. Did any other member of the Enclave stand out to you? If so, why?

Only other that members that stood out was the aunt and Benedict ( unfortunately). The aunt as this was the first introduction to family and Benedict for his superiority complex which he seems to share with his sons.

44. So, is the possible “clockwork army” the one that is “born neither of Heaven nor Hell”?

I think it is. Seems to make sense.

45. I thought Charlotte was much older too. Did you? Were you surprised by the unanimous vote?

Charlotte defiantly portrayed herself as older. So how old does that make Henry?

I did expect Benedict to disagree but as Will said they would be considered a coward if they did.

46. Do you have faith in Henry’s Phosphor invention? Will it be perfected by the date of the party? Otherwise, I’m thinking they’ll just have to use darkness as their signal. LOL!

if he wants to blind everyone then yep it works. Lol I did laugh when he blinded the enclave. Gabriel and Benedict so deserved it. Henry seems to be very smart so no reason why it won't work come the party.

#22 – I think Tessa is becoming fond of Jessamine. She held her confidence. Good point about Henry – he is very random, LOL! Yes, I also think their marriage started out as a business arrangement and has grown into love.

#24 – Sold him? Whoa. You could be right. I was wondering if Nate & Tess share the same ability also.

#25 – Yes, I’m enjoying it a lot too! Glad you are catching up. ☺

#41 – Ah! Good point about the brain mapping.

#42 – Oh, you could be right… You convinced me; now I think there was more to it, LOL!

#43 – Oh, I like that term: “superiority complex” – LOL!

#45 – Ha! I hadn’t even thought of Henry’s age. Good question.

#46 – LOL! Yes, I liked that the Enclave were all saying, “No, no! No bother.” And then Henry went right ahead and – Poof! LOL!

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapter 7

26. So, I’m thinking Sophie received her scar from her previous employer’s son. You? She believes Will and he are in the same type of man. Do you? Could Will prove her wrong before the end of the book?

Yeah, I think that also. And I don't think that Will is the same. I think that his act is more for show than real thing.

27. What did you think of Henry Branwell’s laboratory? His clockwork girl or automaton? I must say, I wasn’t expecting it (her?) to have a human heart.

Yeah, that human heart was very weird. I can not imagine how that kind of machine could work. Some kind of steam-punk cyborg. LOL

28. No questions here, but I have to tell you, I was LMAO over the scene with Henry’s Phosphor. You?

Me too. Definitely a lot of funny scenes in this book. :)

29. Were you surprised that Tessa did NOT reveal that Jessamine killed the goblin to Will or Jem? Which one will find out first?

I think that Tessa respected Jessamines right to privacy. I think it will be probably a group revelation...

30. Comments on Henry wanting to examine Tessa’s necklace? Would you let him, if you had something of equal sentimental value?

No I would not give it to him. Henry is sweat and dear, but if I had something so valuable - last memory to my mother, I would not give it to anyone.

31. Eep! Lady Belcourt sounds a shady character at best. The first thing I thought of was “double agent”, LOL! Do you have any concerns about her before reading Chapter 8?

I also doubt that she is double agent. But we will see... I'm off to read more. Hope I will catch up until tomorrow. :)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Dragana

#26 – Ah! So you think Will’s bravado is all a “front”.

#27 – Yeah, I was wonder about how the skin could stay (for lack of a better word) “fresh” – but that is answered later.

#28 – ☺

#29 – Very good. I like that term: “right to privacy”.

#30 – Yeah, I don’t know if I could turn it over. LOL!

#31 – Her character is a lot more interesting than I thought she would be.

Kylie Looking at those pics i'm more inclined to say the necklace is a key of some sort.

I agree, Kylie! Seems pretty important, anyway.

Kylie Questions for Chapter 10.

47. Was Will calling Tessa by Tess a way of calming her down, or was it more than that?

48. How educated is Will, he comes across as a jock, but then he goes quoting from A Tale of Two Cities.

49. So you do you think Will saw Tessa or Camille in the carriage?

50. What caused the sadness that Tessa sees in Wills eyes, even when he smiles.

51. Will they get Nataniel out alive? What did he do that was such a grievous crime to be drank to death.

Kylie As most of Chapter 10 was descriptive there wasn't much that left me wondering, so i only had a few questions for this chapter.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments They look great to me, Kylie! ☺

47. Was Will calling Tessa by Tess a way of calming her down, or was it more than that?
I think it was more than that. I think he is falling for her.

48. How educated is Will, he comes across as a jock, but then he goes quoting from A Tale of Two Cities.
I think he is “self-educated” – and very smart. He had both: street smarts and a high IQ.

49. So you do you think Will saw Tessa or Camille in the carriage?
Tessa.

50. What caused the sadness that Tessa sees in Wills eyes, even when he smiles?
I believe, like the guy in A Tale of Two Cities - he doesn’t think he is good enough for Tessa.

51. Will they get Nathaniel out alive? What did he do that was such a grievous crime to be drunk to death?
Huh. I hadn’t thought too much on that. I was just very surprised they were going to kill him b/c I thought he would be too valuable to them. Then I thought maybe he was refusing to change into whatever person they wanted. But now, after reading your question and really thinking about it, I think he refused to give them more info on Tessa, or something to do with Tessa.

Kylie @ Lisa Kay

#50 I haven't read A Tale of Two Cities, so that comparison i hadn't seen.

#51 With Tessa mia maybe he has lost his purpose of life. Or maybe they knew Tessa would be there and tried to lure her out.

Kylie Questions for Chapter 11

52. Did you expect that the Phosphor would work the way it did or like me you were expecting temporarily blinded vampires.

53. What i don't understand is through the whole battle with the Vampires, Tessa didn't drop her shift of Camille. I would of thought that would be the first she would do when she ran to her brother.

54. Why is it a bad thing to bite a vampire? I know his blood burnt Tessa, is it even more lethal to a Nephilim.

55. Will Nate survive or will he turn into a vampire? I wonder what else they have done to Nate.

56. Wonder how they treat shadow hunters who consume vampire blood.

57. What will happen now that De Quincey escaped. Will Charlotte be blamed or will a war start with the night children.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Lisa Kay’s Answers to Kylie’s Questions for Chapter 11

52. Did you expect that the Phosphor would work the way it did or like me you were expecting temporarily blinded vampires?
That totally surprised me. I expected the Phosphor to work, or to work as it did at the Institute.

53. What I don't understand is through the whole battle with the Vampires, Tessa didn't drop her shift of Camille. I would have thought that would be the first she would do when she ran to her brother.
Me too. As soon as she saw that first vamp go up like paper, I would have thought she would change back into herself -- even b/f going to her brother. She can’t help him if she is ashes.

54. Why is it a bad thing to bite a vampire? I know his blood burnt Tessa, is it even more lethal to a Nephilim.
At this point, I didn’t know (read ahead, so now I do). Kind of a different spin than the True Blood series where it gives you extra powers.

55. Will Nate survive or will he turn into a vampire? I wonder what else they have done to Nate.
I don’t know, but I suspect he won’t be a vamp. I hope not, anyway. I think he’ll take a while to recover, whatever else they’ve done to him. To be honest, I didn’t think we’d see Nate in this volume. Or I thought it would be discovered he was dead. Very surprised he is alive.

56. Wonder how they treat Shadowhunters who consume vampire blood?
I don’t know, but they seemed pretty upset that Will had done so. Was it my imagination, or was it implied that he has done it before?

57. What will happen now that de Quincey escaped? Will Charlotte be blamed or will a war start with the Night Children?
I think de Quincey remains the bad guy till the end (hopefully stops there!). However, I think they will blame Charlotte and a war with the Night Children will start from all this. So both, to your last question.

Gin Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapter 7

26. So, I’m thinking Sophie received her scar from her previous employer’s son. You? She believes Will and he are in the same type of man. Do you? Could Will prove her wrong before the end of the book?
That is exactly what I thought. I would imagine that at some point she will resolver her issues with him.

27. What did you think of Henry Branwell’s laboratory? His clockwork girl or automaton? I must say, I wasn’t expecting it (her?) to have a human heart.
I expected th laboratory. It goes along well with his personality. Definitely was not expecting the human heart. I guess sometype of magic to make it beat

28. No questions here, but I have to tell you, I was LMAO over the scene with Henry’s Phosphor. You? I wonder what it was really supposed to do

29. Were you surprised that Tessa did NOT reveal that Jessamine killed the goblin to Will or Jem? Which one will find out first?
Tessa seems like a loyal friend. I didn't think she would say anything. I think that if she confides in anyone, it will be Jem

30. Comments on Henry wanting to examine Tessa’s necklace? Would you let him, if you had something of equal sentimental value?
Henry seems to be curious about any sort of technology. There was a small part of me that wondered if maybe he new there was something more to the piece and wanted to investigate further. If it were mine, I would not have given it to him. I would have been OK if he would have examined it while I was present.
31. Eep! Lady Belcourt sounds a shady character at best. The first thing I thought of was “double agent”, LOL! Do you have any concerns about her before reading Chapter 8?
My first thought also. I could imagine I'd have a hard time trusting anyone at that point. Charlotte didn't really give any sort of indication as to why she trusted this particular vampire. They trusted De Quincey, and that clearly didn't pan out so well.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments @ Gin

#27 – Yes, the heart was a surprise to me.

#28 – Good questions, LOL!

#29 – Yes, very loyal. I think you’re right about her telling Jem, if the situation warranted it.

#30 – Oh, now that’s a good idea (while you’re present).

#31 – After what Tessa has been through? No, I don’t think I’d be very trusting, either.
