Jamie Sheffield (jamiesheffield) | 2 comments Hello,

My name is Jamie Sheffield, and I'm the author of the Tyler Cunningham Adirondack Mysteries. It's a series set in the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York, featuring an unusual detective who keeps finding his way into the middle of crimes and situations that he has trouble understanding (he's a bit out of the ordinary, and it's been suggested by readers that he is somewhere along the Autistic Spectrum).

I've sold thousands of copies of my books in print and ebook and audio format, have broken into the Amazon top 1000 books overall, and climbed down into the top 100 lists of mysteries from time to time. I have hundreds of reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, with all of my books consistently averaging well above four stars.

My Amazon Page: http://www.amazon.com/Jamie-Sheffield...

I'd love to be a part of a bookclub event of some sort, and hope that we can work together to make it happen. If there's interest in something of this sort, I'd be happy to arrange for a price break for kindle versions of my books, and also to participate in online conversations/meetings.

Please get in touch if you have any questions, or would like to try and make something along these lines work for this group (or some other that you're affiliated with).

Thanks,

Jamie Sheffield

Cameron Kamran | 3 comments Hi, my name is Cameron Kamran and I grew up between Tehran and New York, spending most of professional life living throughout the broader Muslim world in numerous countries.

I just published my historical novel, God's Banquet A Tale of Muslim Spain by Cameron Kamran which is set medieval Muslim Spain, a world long ago with striking parallels to today and the fluctuating tension and exchange between contemporary Islam and the West.

The protagonist is a young Muslim queen of Iranian ancestry who must defend her tiny kingdom from both Christian and Islamic adversaries. Most Westerners have little knowledge of the medieval Muslim past, when Islamic civilization dwarfed the West in secular science and philosophy, diversity, innovation, and material wealth.

I hope the group will enjoy this story from a little known time period in Europe's history.

Nabse Bamato (wwwgoodreadscomnabse_bamato) | 16 comments Hello everyone. I'm mostly on Goodreads as a reader not a writer. However I have just seen this thread and have realised I "should" let you know about my book, Yohannes Ishi, set mostly in Ethiopia (I am Ethiopian). You can read more about it here: Yohannes Ishi - it's a relatively light (and certainly short) read, available on Kindle and from Amazon/ B&N. All questions and feedback are welcome either via the author page or by Direct Message. That's it - back to the reader hat now!

Kate | 5 comments Hello group,

I'm very glad I found this group today (via TNBBC group) - it's a great group theme! I'm a Scottish writer, based in Glasgow. There's more information on recent fiction and poetry at: www.katetough.com including sound-clips from the debut novel, read in my soft Scottish lilt!

Kate Tough

It was incredibly exciting, after a few years writing and rewriting my book, to have a UK publisher grab it and send it into the world (May 2014). However, never did I imagine the book would become available in North America... but it is! As of late September 2014. I wish I'd known about this group a few weeks ago as we had a Goodreads giveaway y'all could have entered. Anyway, no matter, maybe we'll do another one sometime!

There's plenty of info about the book and its intelligently eccentric main character (Jill Beech) at the Goodreads link, below. If you locate it on Amazon.co.uk you'll see from reviews that readers enjoy the distinctive Scottish flavour to the humour, setting and writing.

Anyway, this group is going to be a trove of information for me on what's emerging from other countries and cultures. Fantastic. Glad to be on board :-)

T.K. Naliaka Hello. I'd like to introduce myself and explain that I am a new indie published author on Amazon Kindle.T.K. Naliaka They are all ages, clean action-adventures at a globally affordable price (at least I intended that!) and I'd love to make them known to an international audience.In Time of Peril A Difficult Damsel to Rescue
I've lived most of my life now in Africa, with a time in India, so I have a lot of normal, everyday experience on both continents, in both anglophone and francophone countries.
I didn't intend to overwrite on the first hello, but once I figure out how all this works, and when the power is on here, I hope to join in on discussions, maybe answer questions people may have about the parts of Africa I am familiar with, to read and ask other folks here their opinions and inputs. Many thanks! T.K. Naliaka

The picture above was taken in northeast China. At the time I was living in a kung fu academy. That was just after having spent two months in Thailand: one month in Phuket kickboxing and another month near the Laos border volunteering as an English teacher. The first country I visited on that trip, though, was India. India for me was akin to hiking in the sense that the experience was challenging and not all that enjoyable, but from the second it was over I yearned to do it once again.

By the way everyone, my name is Ryan Astaphan. Hi! It's an honor to interact with you all.

Monika Gensinger Hello Diane, hello everyone,
my name is Monika Gensinger from Germany and I´m a new goodreads author. As a writer and traveler I like this interesting group very much and I´m grateful that I have the opportunity to introduce my books here:
My novel “Weller´s Way” is the story of a cynical trapper in South America who becomes a dedicated conservationist on a South Sea island. A trip to a paradise island in the Philippines inspired me to this book.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

My book “War and Love A Father´s Sentimental Journey to St. Petersburg”
is the fictional story of a former German soldier who returns to Russia to show his daughter where the war took place. But the young woman also knows: Her father wants to find Sonja, the Russian nurse, his love of bygone years.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

The novel is based on a trip with my father to St.Petersburg/Russia. It was a very emotional experience and it was also emotional to write this book though I turned it into fiction.
Thanks
Monika

Karen Dodson | 2 comments Hello, I'm a new author and just published my debut novel entitled "Set: A Love Story" about a woman journalist from Chicago who travels to the Patagonia region of Argentina to fly-fish and falls in love with her kind and handsome Argentine fishing guide. The story includes first-hand accounts of the region, including descriptions of the people, food, landscape, and, of course, fly-fishing. It's intended to be a feel-good book, and profits from its sales are donated to the Patagonia guiding community to promote the region's economic growth and environmental sustainability.

The cover includes original art by world-renowned Argentina painter Georg Miciu.

The book is in an e-book (Kindle) format now and will be available in paperback in January 2015. Thank you for the opportunity to present my work.

Luke Marsden (lukefdmarsden) | 7 comments Hi all,

By way of introduction, I am Luke F. D. Marsden and I'm a native of Bristol in the UK.

I published my first book, Wondering, the Way is Made, last month. It is set in South America and was mostly written on location during some time that I spent in that part of the world recently. It spans the genres between travel and literary fiction, and is for both wonderers and wanderers.

~~~
A formative experience in Africa opens the eyes of Joss Douglas to the programme-like method by which he plans and lives his life. Years later, in a world in which global civilization is faltering, with a climate that grows harsher and wilder with each passing year, he no longer sees the sense in this ordered existence, and feels that he is working towards nothing. With his girlfriend Tina, who has distant roots in Brazil, he steps out of his conventional programme and they set off on a voyage of discovery to Latin America...
Go well on your travels,
I've been earning my living from various forms of writing for around 25 years now, and for those of you interested in travel and different cultures, I'd like to tell you about my two latest travel/photography books: 'A Month in India' and 'Land Mines and Ladyboys'. You can read all about them and see samples etc at my website http://www.davidmellonie.com
Both books have received outstanding reviews, have been professionally designed and laid out and are of exceptional quality, both in the writing and the spectacular photography. My books offer fascinating insights into people, places and cultures much different from our own, and have been described by others as 'transformational', 'breathtaking' and 'not to be missed'. If you like travel, reading and great photography, I think you'll love my two latest books. I look forward to hearing what members of this group think about them, and as I don't spend much time on social media (too busy writing and taking photos), please feel free to also recommend them to your friends. Lydia St Giles (lydia_stg) I've published non-fiction, journalism and have scripted and recorded talks for the BBC. But this year I'm starting to publish fiction (which I have been writing for years).
My writing draws on places I've lived in or know well so some of the stories I'll be releasing in the first half of this year will have foreign flavours. The first short story (Pillion Rider) follows the journey of a London architect along the way of St James to Santiago de Compostela. The second one is told by a Spanish woman looking back to her youth and talking about family life in London with a friend.
Both these stories will soon be free for five days so I'll flag that up as soon as they're available.
Lydia St Giles (lydia_stg) The two short stories with a Spanish connection are free now and will remain free until Sunday evening. (Exact timing depends on where you are in the world.) They are quite different from
each other, in content and style, so one may be more to your liking than the other. But they're
short so give them both a try!
In 1988, Bridget Reinhold's sister Claire disappears in Botswana under mysterious circumstances. Bridget rushes to Africa and is faced with age-old traditions and political change. Here is a poem about my books. It's called Full Moon Bloodlust.
When the moonlight strikes me, I am filled with power. In an evil age, in my darkest hour. Death and Destruction are the pleasures of my life. A lonely life filled with agony. Here I stand upon this Ledge with sword in hand I hereby pledge. That in the full moon's waning light. I shall make my Sacrifice. The Fog drifts down the hills into my dark domain. My senses sharp and I Insane. Into the woods I go with the moonlight as my guide. I now creep like the mist and from my wrath you can not hide. I shall avenge all I have lost. Behold the coming of death with your now ending immortal life. I shall make my sacrifice. Unto the goddess of the night. I shall make my sacrifice.
My desire was to help kids overcome fears of the unknown by introducing them to some of the fabulous places, and animals, around us. The stories follow the adventures of PJ Mouse, the stuffed animal that goes everywhere with Emily and her family. PJ is an adorable, slightly featherbrained mouse, always getting into scrapes and needing rescuing by the local friendly wildlife he meets....often endangered species that need our protection.
Pam Golden | 9 comments Hi everyone.
Thank you for giving us a space to explain about our books. This is all new to me and it feels like a minefield!
My name is Pam Golden and I have just published "To Be Human is an Honour" on Kindle. From 1978 to the present, it shows a warm and sympathetic approach to a variety of world cultures from years of travel. Some of the places have utterly changed since; giving a view of life before mass tourism hit them.
It follows the journeys of a young woman through a wide range of experiences. No matter where she is, she wants to connect with the people around her and see the world from their viewpoint. As her physical travels progress, her spiritual path unfolds. She learns to trust her intuition, believing she is in the right place at the right time for whatever she has to learn.
Throughout the book is a deep respect for others and their stories; with good to be found in nearly everyone. It is a positive and loving view, taking joy in the fact that we live in an amazingly diverse and very beautiful planet.
To Be Human is an Honour
It is free on a Kindle promotion this weekend 15th-17th May so if you are interested in it, take the opportunity! After reading it, I'd love to hear your opinions, so do get in touch.
Doann Houghton-Alico | 7 comments "Voice of a Voyage: Rediscovering the World During a Ten-year Circumnavigation," visiting 41 countries, sailing over 43,000 nautical miles--this is my recent travel memoir. Here's a quote from one 5-star review: "A keen observer with a penchant for research, Doann writes of her love of the sea at night far away from land, but she also describes such exotic places as remote islands of the South Pacific where black magic and wives bought for three boar tusks are the norm. She evokes the spirit of people and places by revisiting their cultural and natural history and exploring beneath the surface. Her portrayals are riveting, drawing the reader quickly into an intimate chronicle of tragedy and beauty." This book about traveling the world is available by ordering from your local indie bookstore or, of course, from Amazon or Barnes and Noble. I, too, am a member of this group and a Goodreads author; I hope you'll take a look at my book. Thanks! Doann
Reymond Page (reyp) | 6 comments Hi, I've recently published a book about our family's travels in India. Several years ago, my wife and I travelled around the world for nine months with our ten and twelve year old sons. We spent seventy-six days in India, a truly remarkable time.
The Great Year - India Edition is 166 pages, full colour throughout, containing more than 450 photographs and 25 drawings and paintings.
Watch a trailer for the book, read excerpts, and see actual pages on my website here: http://275days.com/greatyearmain.html
Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself,
Reymond Pagé
From the back of the book:
When they decided to take a year off and travel the world, Laura and Reymond didn’t know what they were getting themselves into. Two hundred and seventy-five days on the road with their young boys Jonas and Matthew.
One hundred and thirty-nine days into the journey, they were leaving Cairo bound for South India, and that is where this book begins.
Waking up in India is like waking up to life. And with life comes the good, the bad, the irritating, the awesome. Travelling in India is not without its frustrations, but you will never ever be bored. Seventy-six days of colour and splendour through the eyes of a family.
Ride the train through city after city, as they search for home in the company of each other.
“The extraordinary continues to be revealed to us relentlessly, and there are days here when it seems impossible that any of this is happening. It seems impossible that one day we will be back at home, going back to school and work, back to grocery shopping and meal preparation, summer and winter, friends and family. I wonder if we will be able to grasp the extraordinary in everything we do and see and have.”
Lydia St Giles (lydia_stg) Free today for five days (until and including 28 July) is my story “Pillion Rider”. It’s free for a second time to coincide with the Day of St James (the 25th) which is a big event in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The protagonist is a man making his way along the pilgrimage route by bicycle. His interest is in history and architecture but the journey brings more than he expects.
Steve Harrison (stormingtime) | 4 comments Hello
I'm the author of TimeStorm and I live in Sydney, Australia. The book is mainly set there, too.
I love reading books set all around the world, particularly historical novels set in Britain and Europe, and the Wilbur Smith books set in Africa.
This looks like a very interesting group!
Cheers
Steve
Don Sloan (donsloan) | 2 comments My name is Don Sloan and I am a former police reporter for a large metropolitan daily newspaper. I have written three books, two horror and one crime/supernatural: They are: The Sisters: A Tale of Good and Evil, Horror and Suspense; The Horror Hunters: A Novella of Mystery and Adventure; and The DeathBorn: The Future Is In the Past. You can access all three by typing "horror sloan" into the Amazon search box. These are all creepy reads and excellent scary stories. Enjoy!
John Mayston | 2 comments This is a radio link to an interview I gave to Alex Lester on his BBC Radio Oxford show recently.
It was an opportunity for me to talk about my two books that are closely related, 'Kimchi with Everything: A Year in the Life of a TEFL Teacher', and 'Lost Seoul', which is a fictional novel about an English teacher who travels to South Korea to teach English, only to find herself kidnapped by a deadly impostor.
If you are interested in learning more about teaching English abroad then this radio interview might just be for you.
I look forward to starting a discussion with people and am happy to answer any questions that people may have. The radio link is below.
The interview is around seventy minutes in to Alex's show.
I hope you enjoy the interview!
Thank you.
Hi I'm Kathy and fairly new to writing. I've published two works so far:
1. Hide & Seek - set in Malta; not great, had my L plates on when I wrote it, I don't recommend it and am thinking of 'de-publishing' it.
2. Juliet's Journey - think I've improved a lot with this one. It's set in Baiardo in northern Italy. Also it's a novella - the shorter format seems to work better for me.
Am working on a short story (around 7,000 words) set mostly in Florence - haven't settled on a title as yet.
In 2007-8 I had a sort of 'mid life gap year' and spent the time in Europe - mostly Italy. Some of the places that I stayed inspired the stories, or at least the settings.
I live in Hobart, Tasmania.
Lydia St Giles (lydia_stg) Last shout out for a new short story, today being the final free day.
Corinne is an Australian, working in London, who sees England as “fawn and beige and grey and brown”.
Only just seen this. My notifications aren't working as well as they could. Thank you for your review. Best of luck with your own short story writing.
