Does this book need a sequel?
I love this book. Its in my top five. When friends ask me what do i recommend this is the one i most commenly respond with. As for the sequal part, i am nervous about it. I feel it would be great to expand on the story to see if the humans and the souls can come together all over the world and get into more of the love story with wanda since it didnt really get into all her feeling at the end.
At the same time this is one of my favorite and I dont want to see the book get ruined by a horrible sequal

But i loved it and I want to stop rereading it and the story to continue
I hope there's sequel, I wanted to know more about the people who showed up at the end and more about Ian and Wanda :)

I really enjoyed this book, as did my daughter and grand daughter! I'm not sure a sequel would come up to the same standard!
After reading this book I was left with so many questions of what happens next!! So yes I think There should be a second one. However, There should not be a third because idk if anyone else is like this but I hate those series that go on fooooorever! So I think two is enough, as long as Meyer doesn't leave us with another cliffhanger!
That was an amazing book and is one of my favorites. I think a sequel would be great as long as the same characters weren't used. It would be thrilling if the storyline changed and new people were brought into the spotlight. I think it would be awesome if she did the story of the family with the child who had not yet been a host.

I loved the book and was annoyed when I found out there is going to be a sequel, and even more so when I heard about the films; why ruin a perfect stand-alone novel? It seems like SM is just trying to make The Host into another money-making-machine :o(
Doesn't need a sequel - personally think it will be flogging something of a dead horse. Everything was tied up neatly enough. I liked this but didn't love it and think it's writing for the sake of it. Meyer can come up with good characters and different perspectives on generic stories - she could certainly do something more interesting with a new piece I think.
I would really like to see what happens with the group they discover at the end of the book. So Yes, I would like to see a sequel....but, I hope it follows the new group.I don't want to see another story that follows the main characters....we already saw that. That segment flowed nicely with them finding another host body for Wanda. Now I would like to see maybe the guy at the end who was another Host (can't remember his name right now, I read the book a year ago), If his host is still with him or if he's trying to get that person to come back or maybe he's doing what wanda did and getting supplies for his humans that took him in.
I would like to see something like that but nothing like the twilight saga.
But it's been awhile since she wrote The Host..... maybe she's burnt out on writing and won't write a sequel. Plus many of her Twilighters didn't respond to The Host, It was too far fetched.... Vampires that sparkle & are daywalkers plus werewolves was okay but aliens taking over a body with the only indication being a silver ring in the eye and a scar at the back of the neck was too much...
I think [The Host] it was an awesome book, I loved it and have recommened it several times. I think a sequel may be amazing and maybe everyone else should give them a chance and critize later because they may end up loving them as much as The Host! I'm pretty stoked for more to come because I get to learn more about the characters, which is like going back to family! :)
The book doesnt NEED to have a sequel, although i would definatley read it if their was to be one.

this book does not need a sequel. If it did it would be too much. stephanie pretty much summed it all up saying that this was the end. so, no sequel.

I'm with Stacy up there. I'd love to see another book writter about the other group and how Burns became a rebel ready to go against his people. Not exactly a sequel, but another book in this interesting world Stephanie Meyer had created.
I think The Host is the best book Stephenie Meyer wrote. And if this sequel it's not something like what Stacy said up there, then it probably going to ruin it.
i dont think so. i thnk a lot of books get sequels at that dont need them, so i think this needs to stay where it is and not have a sequel.
I think this book should end the way it did. But it's been confirmed that Stephenie Meyer will be writing two sequels...
Definatly my fav of her books. I would love to see something fresh from her and believe she is only writing a sequel because a)easy money or b)she has a contract for a set number of books and this is an easy way to fulfil. I would like to think better of her but you see so many authors do that. You love thier first book and then they just start spitting out the same book with different names. Anyways, I probly would read any sequel.

i loved the book..it's in my top three, i think it was far better than the twilight sequel, and i was a twilight maniac for a really long time, believe me!!as for the sequel thing, although i think the finish lines were perfects, i was really saddened to finish it, and if i owned a copy, i would've read it again at least twice :)) and so i'm gonna fully support the idea of the sequel and be the first person to buy a copy of the next part in town. especially that Meyer is really good with the sequel thing..
I'm torn because I thought that The Host ended beautifully. This book is the only reason why I still have some sort of respect for Stephenie Meyer. The romance wasn't cheesy and disgusting at all, like Twilight, and if she DOES make a sequel then I'm definitely supporting her. It's one of my favorite books of all time because of its very unique story plot. I just hope that the possible sequel meshes nicely with this one. If it does, then I'd run to my local bookstore and buy one immediately.
I think if it had a sequel, it wouldn't be as good as the first, because everything would be thrown together, and there would have to be a new type of conflict. I loved how The Host ended. If Meyer were to write another book, I would read it, but I don't think it would compare to the first.

i agree with lovehurts. the book is too long, and i never got around to finish reading it. i started reading it in 8th grade (im a high school sophmore now) and i don't think i can finish it

I loved this book and would definetly read the sequel if it was written. I have no doubt SM would do a fab job with it as she does with all her books but it just doesn't need a sequel. Although thinking about it, it would be kind of nice to find out what happened to Mel & Jared and Wanda & Ian... Maybe it could be written a short time in the future and she could give Jamie a love interest!!

I think that I would not like the sequel since I think the author would make Wonderer the main character and in my opinion without Melanie I would not feel attached. Her family/love story was what drew me in emotionally.

I read somewhere that because of her contract with Little Brown, if Stephanie Meyer doesn't write a sequel to The Host within a set amount of time (ten years, I think), the publisher is free to get someone else to write it.
Ha! I wanna see someone else write it... I doubt that is the coarse they take, they would of course sue her for breach of contract.
It would be nice to have a sequel, but I don't want to have my opinion of the book go down because of a bad sequel.

i loved this book. its probably my favorite book period. and she did sum it up at the end by the way she ended the book and i loved it how it was; so no it doesnt NEED one, but id read it if it came out.
Yes... I think she's a amazing writer and I loved the story itself, it's better than vampires and a silly love (I don't like Twilight series) and I want to read more of her...
i loved the host so much that i want a sequel just so i can read more about the characters but i'm really scared that the sequel might ruin everything. on the other hand, twilight got better with every book.
I feel the same way about the same way about a sequel as I do about the movie. If its done great then I'll love it.
I loved the host<3 but when i finished it , this left me with a taste of wanting more. and that's totally what i want. :)

I know a lot of people disagree and think that The Host is great as a stand-alone and that it doesn't need a second book, but the fact that I'm still interested to find out more about the character, means that the story isn't finished. An author knows when a book is done (or when a series is done) when at the end of the book, there aren't any BIG questions left for the reader. And The Host ends with a lot of questions. Who are those people they meet in the end? Are there more Souls like Wanda and Burns? Do they travel to other settlements? I feel like a book as good as this, and a book that can go in so many directions should not be left feeling (even slightly) unfinished. I think Meyer should take a lesson from Cassandra Clare. Mrs Clare created the world of Shadowhunters in her first Mortal Instruments series (which isn't even done yet) but she realized the possibilities of that world and took advantage of it. She wrote a second series called the Infernal Devices (which in my opinion is so much better then the TMI) and now she's planning on writing a third series The Dark Artifices with the same Shadowhunter world that she created. She's not "stressing" and "overdoing" her shadow hunter idea because all her fans are just as obsessed with her second series as they are with her first.
I don't know, I just really believe that Meyer could seriously do something with the Host and I would like to see her take advantage of that. She could be so much more than just the author of Twilight.

It didn't seem like there was going to be a sequel with the way the story ended. To me it seems that Meyer just decided to make one because people liked the book.
