He never thought about being an auror until Barty crouch jr/mad eye suggested it for him. It was the only career choice he ever considered after that so he just became one. And yes you spelles it right
But apparently I can't spell "spelled" right haha

Harry wants to make a difference. He wants to make the world safer. Harry doesn't complain that he hates fighting Voldemort, it's that his life and and the lives of everyone around him are in constant danger. People don't become police officers (nor do wizards become aurors) because they enjoy putting their life on the line (well, maybe some do, I don't know) fighting the "bad guys", they become police officers (and aurors) so people aren't at the criminals mercy. It thing same thing with soldiers.
