A book my class read in, like, 4th grade 2005-06?? [s]

The book was about a kid and I think the kid might have had a friend. They were trying to solve some kind of family mystery, I think and the book had this really cool map in the front of it, if I remember correctly. The only real detail I remember is that the kid(s) go to talk to a guy and he says something about being a little under the weather and that summer colds are the worst. Any ideas would be appreciated. Finding the name of this book has been bugging me for years!!
