For example, I was working on adding details to one book page when I noticed it has another book page for the same exact edition & everything (as far as I could tell)...but what happens to comment boards when combining a book? I thought about combining it (do I just click "combine"? Then what?) But I was worried about the affect it might have on all the comments people have spent a labour of love on from both book pages. Does anyone have experience with the result of this? Is this actually "merging" not combining? (Maybe they're already combined)

rules on how to "Merge Books": http://www.goodreads.com/help/librari... Ok I have looked up the answer to my question in the Manual! :D (Patting myself on the back now). I think it makes sense but I'm still concerned about all the reviews - I don't want to mess that part up... any experienced examples out there in Goodreads cyberspace?

Violetta | 477 comments As far as I know, the comments and ratings are blended into the existing works in the case of a combine, and in light gray it says "this review is for another edition" or something like that, when applicable.
In the case of a merge, no reviews are lost, as they are migrated over to the other editions of the work as well, but I'm not sure if they are reassigned to the edition that you choose to merge with or just the most popular edition. Hopefully a senior librarian can answer that =)

Sandra | 31449 comments Michele, it would be helpful if in future you linked the specific book you are referencing.

Having said that - combining books does nothing to comments or information held for each edition, they just get added together so members can see all available editions.

Merging is a deletion of a wrong edition after all reviews/ratings have been transferred to the correct edition.

If you don't feel confident doing this, then post in the books to be deleted thread and a more experienced librarian will look at it and decide. Always combine a book to be merged before posting it to the thread.

Only Super Librarians can delete books that have more than 5 ratings or are standalones, in any case.
