Do you think Mockingjay was rushed? Did you find yourself looking up from the pages saying, "What the heck just happened?" What is your opinion of Mockingjay as the final in the Hunger Games trilogy?

I found myself majorly confused. It was one really crazy scene after the next. When Prim died (sorry spoiler) I didn't even realize until like two chapters later. Plus, the whole trial thing, Collins described it-- through the words of freaking Haymitch-- in one freaking paragraph. I was SO confused.

Blonde braid.
Boom.
Katniss on fire.
Katniss in hospital.
Katniss in bathtub.
Katniss assassinate Snow.
Snow cackle.
Katniss get shackled.
Katniss in paper robe on bed.
Katniss hungry.
Katniss dying.
Enter Haymitch.
Katniss on trial.
Haymitch save her.
Katniss go to dilapidated District 12.
Katniss live in rocking chair.
Greasy Sae help her.
Enter Peeta.
Peeta + Katniss = Mysterious LightWeight Children
Peeta + Katniss + Children = Strange scene in Meadow.

Yeah..It was! I kept on trying to see if there were more pages left because i was completely lost as to how Suzanne Collins would wrap up this book. I really want to know how Katniss and Peeta grew back together. One second he was all hikackly, the next he was comforting her? And how are the other characters? What do you mean by "Peeta+Katniss=Mysterious LightWeight Children"?

message 5: by Lauren, Head Gamemaker (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lauren Gibson (laurengibson) | 3009 comments Mod
Yes. It was SUPER rushed. I would have liked to know about the trial and yes, about how Katniss and Peeta got back together. By "Peeta + Katniss = LightWeight Children" I meant how for some reason Katniss was fixated on how light her children were. She like mentioned how the girl was easier to hold than the boy or something like that. I just found that strange and confusing.

I still could probably read that book a thousand times and find new things I had either never seen before or forgotten every time.

Yes. Sometimes I forget things too. But, I've read them 4th times, it gets sadder and sadder each time. I've learned to brace myself for MJ.

Snow cackles.
Katniss get pinned too the ground.
Katniss in her Mockingjay suit while locked in a room.
Katniss showers.
Mockingjay suit is replaced with paper robe, which she puts on.
Katniss hungry.
Katniss dying.
Katniss starts eating a little bit again.
Enter Haymitch.
Haymitch explains Katniss'.
Katniss' doctor saves her by telling about her medical visits or basically calls her a mental patient.
Katniss go to dilapidated District 12.
Katniss live in rocking chair.
Greasy Sae helps her.
Peeta plants Primrose in honor of Katniss' sister.
Peeta and Katniss have a daughter and a son.

Haha :) She meant that carrying the boy was easier than carrying the girl. "Carrying" in the context of "being pregnant with".

She also meant that she was less afraid of having her boy (2nd kid) than her girl since she experienced it before, but she was still afraid.

I found it rushed, but not unnecessary. Katniss was in shock. Everything could have been happening that fast to her.

Also, you left out:
Katniss screams at cat

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

That was the only part where I got even a little teary the first time around. Not because of Prim being gone, but because of what Prim being gone did to Katniss and Gale's friendship and Katniss's sanity.

Yeah, it was sad how it all degraded on her sanity. It really messed her up. It scarred her for life. The Katniss who lived in the Thread and supported her mother and sister by hunting with her best friend Gale is a far cry from the Katniss at the end of Mockingjay.

OOHH! New discussion:

What did Katniss gain from her terrifying experiences???

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

She gained insanity. And a crazed tortured husband.

message 44: by Katie, The Girl Who Disappeared (new)

Katie (fearoffallingup) | 86 comments Mod
She gained knowledge. I don't mean to full blown disagree with Snickerdoodle, but she didn't 'gain' her husband. She may have been unloving and cruel. But he loved her and she loved him. She earned him, for lack of a better word.

Katniss gained knowledge of what happens and what wasn't going to happen. She realized the world could be okay. Maybe.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Don't worry, that's not disagreement. I was just too lazy to word what I wrote properly. :)

Nice nice. Good start to the list.

I think she gained the ability to see the big picture. To think ahead.

She also (this is more an inference) gained a knowledge by the end that life goes on and to stop living in the present. I'm asuming she did by the end because she really didn't have this.

She learned to handle loss.
