From what the student described (that he could remember): It starts off with a girl whose house burns down. She then flees to the forest and meets a boy (possibly an orphan). The student also mentioned mind control through certain articles of clothing. He also mentioned a silver key. I asked if he was talking about "the Giver" but he says no. He can't remember the author either.

This book should be from a 6th to 7th grade reading level
