This thread WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS. Please limit the discussion to content from chapters 63 thru 67. No need to mark spoilers, but please don't discuss events beyond chapter 67.

Chapter 67 ends as Madame Danglars returns home after a visit to M. de Villefort's chambers..

The Count is slowly working upon each person he plans to ruin. It makes it so much easier that all of these people's lives are so tangled together. I loved his little "ghost story" after dinner.

Kim (kimmr) | 931 comments Yes, extraordinary coincidences certainly work in The Count"s favour!

Too many, don't you think? Even our old friend Caderouse re-appears. It's really been a fun read.

The only one I am worried about is Valentine. The scene where Noirtier rewrote his will was marvelous!

Kim (kimmr) | 931 comments Way too many coincidences! But without them, it wouldn't be much of a tale. Dumas forces you to cross the suspension bridge of disbelief. The fairy tale / parable style is what allows that to happen, I think.

And yes, Valentine seems to be the one most at risk of unintended consequences, with only her grandfather to protect her.

It was very discouraging that the Count encouraged Villefort to go ahead with the marriage. I hope M. Morrel speaks up for her. Now the suspense is building because I care about the characters.

Now we wait to see who has the better contacts, de Villefort or the Count.

STarting this section now. Don't remember what happens at dinner, but it should be exciting. Bertuccio is about to have a hissy fit, what with all his ghosts showing up at the dinner table.
