Tasha A "Readers challenge" would be fun! I'm not all that creative so I'll wait to hear ideas from others but I'll definitely give it some thought.

Elizabeth☮ i have always been a reader, but what i have never done is taken on challenges. i don't find reading pleasurable if i feel under pressure to meet specific requirements.

it wasn't until i joined goodreads, that i began to read books for discussion with others, which might mean i have to finish a book before a certain date.

i belong to a face to face book club, but we do not read the same books. we simply have dinner and chat and then at the end of dinner swamp books we've read the past month. many now have kindles, nooks, ereaders, etc. and so it makes trading, for me, difficult.

i think like with any race, contest or challenge, people like the idea of winning. so if i read all of the books that won the booker prize: i win!

i am not competitive, so i stick to my simple list of books i'd like to read and create my own deadlines and non-challenges.

readers challenge for 2013? let me think about that one.

Tasha @Elizabeth, I like your f2f group idea, except I would have difficulty with ereader trades too. I'd prefer to leave with an actual book. :)

I hear what you're saying about challenges making things competitive. I try to keep my challenges fun and easy, often not even completing them. But I can't help but get caught up in the excitement and planning stages. I end up usually not completing them because I get distracted by all the great recs and reads.

As far as my man Booker challenge, I keep wanting to read books off that
list but they keep getting pushed to the side so if I have a plan there's a chance I might get them read. ;)

Dan (aka Utterbiblio) (utterbiblio) I'm doing two challenges this year. A classics challenge to take advantage of some real classic, older books out there and a genre challenge (of my own creation). The genre challenge is just about exploring out of my comfort zone and trying new things.

Tasha The genre challenge sounds like an interesting idea!

After several years of doing a half-dozen or more reading challenges I downsized this year. I am participating in the Australian Women Writers Challenge but as I read a fair amount by local writers anyway this is not too stressful. For the rest I just want to read whatever I feel like.

A The Readers challenge might tempt me if not too prescriptive and has some international element

That looks like fun. I'm in too many personal challenges this year but I may just borrow your idea for a personal challenge next year. Don't think I wasn't tempted though. ;)
