I read this book when I was around 12 in the early 80's but I have no idea when it was written. All adults in the world had died due to some virus or something and the children were in charge of everything...I don't remember much except that it centered around one girl and her little brother. One thing I remember is that they tried to take their parents' car out one day but they ran out of gas and all the gas stations were dry. I've been trying to figure out the title of this book for years, I hope someone out there can help!

I did a little search and it seems to be "The Girl Who Owned A City" by O.T. Nelson Originally published in 1975 (discovered through wikipedia), but apparently a 1995 version seems to be the popular one (almost the only one that shows) at Amazon.Hope this is the same book you are looking for.
