I thought I was going pretty good. I had been restrained in my eating on Xmas day..and then this morning I got up and while standing in the kitchen waiting for the jug to boil to make my coffee, I attacked the covered platter of Xmas treats sitting out on the bench.
And now I am having a "what have I done" moment...

They each got new toys Nylabone chew toys and one of those stuffed toys made out of seatbelt type material. Very tough. Even so, I'm sure that they will have the squeaker out before dinner.

Oh. And one of the dogs gave me a laser pointer. She loves to chase the red dot. Maybe she thinks I will too. LOL

Terri | 19576 comments I nearly got one of our boys one of those toys with something like 12 squeakers in it...but it was expensive and I thought, 12 squeakers does not mean the toy will last any longer than a few days. Haha..little rascal.

We got our big dog hide chews and our little dog got chews and a Kong stick.
One of these..
http://www.petsperfect.co.uk/products...

We got him one of the medium ones for Xmas last year and while it only lasted 3 months the joy it gave him was priceless. :-)
It is that tough fabric...but tough fabric doesn't stop him from getting the stitching open. Lol

message 1305: by Leland (new)

Leland (lelandhw) Nice! For our chewer we get the galileo bone. I can't even believe how long these will last. http://www.nylabone.com/product-finde...

and this remained a hit even when all the stuffing and squeakers were gone. We can say to Brody "get your chicken and he knows exactly which toy it is. http://www.fatcatinc.com/products/det...

message 1306: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I shall keep an eye out for that brand floppy chicken. It is hard to find toys that last, especially with small terrier dogs. they have the little scissor chewing teeth that work like a sewing unpicker needle. lol. We go through so many toys and unfortunately, he does not like the hard toys. Only fabric and soft toys.

message 1307: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I love this company for long- lasting dog toys:

I gave each dog a new one this Christmas.

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments What did 'Ole Sannie Claus' bring you?
I did not get the knee length dress I wanted, but I did get a gift card. I got an ASUS. Never heard of an Asus, don't even know how to turn it on. Husband and son number two surely have enjoyed it!

message 1309: by Leland (new)

Leland (lelandhw) I got a Kobo e-reader. Wheeeee

Anne (spartandax) | 797 comments I Was the Secret Santa for a wee 1 and 1/2 lb. Yorkie at a rescue center. I bought him toys, wee-wee pads, treats, clothes and a cute sleep in house, red with white dog feet prints on it. His name is Pocket.

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Resolution 2013: read the books I've got before I buy more.
I have hundreds of unread books, worthy to be read. Think of the expenses saved if I read what's in front of me, instead of pastures new. I am SO undisciplined and my eyes are bigger than...

An exception for group reads with A&M :) :)

How's that for a sensible resolution? I thought of 'move to Tasmania' but that's beyond my organisational skills.

message 1312: by Linda (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments What does Tasmania have of note? A devil, a snake or bedlam?
You have lofty resolutions. Stick to them and next New Year give the group a report of how you succeeded!
Leslie, was that 'wheeeee' real pleasure for getting a Kobo ereader or was it tongue in cheek

I saw those crackle toys at the pet store (water bottle in plush toy) and was about to get one when I spotted they had finally gotten the Kong Stix in and got him one of them instead.

Awww, that's lovely Anne. Hopefully Pocket won't be at the rescue shelter too long and he will be adopted.

Terri, one of the best things about expecting a baby is that you don't have worry about that big stomach. I have seriously considered being pregnant all the time.

I love that he was so excited to read for himself! My youngest son has dyslexia, too, but it did not affect his ability to read. He has very minor issues with hand-eye coordination.

Awww! Pocket sounds so cute! I wish that I had the room and patience to adopt all of the unwanted puppies in the world! Both of mine were rescue dogs and so was my kitty.

Bryn this resolutions is just plan wrong! On behalf of bookoholics everywhere I urge you to reject it for the mistake it is. Having hundreds of unread books in your bookcases is totally normal. You have no idea when a natural disaster or even the end of civilisation as we know it is going to cut you off from your suppliers, then what will you do if you have depleted your emergency supplies? Supplies of books are just as important as any other emergency supplies.

lol. Well, not being pregnant, I only have Xmas fare to blame.
Besides, I think tummies on women are feminine and natural and no woman should be ashamed of having a tummy. :)

Dawn (caveatlector) Besides, there is always Spanx to hold it all in for necessary occasions. :D

I've never kept a New Year's resolution in my life, so I won't sweat.
Glad I'm normal for a bookoholic.

message 1325: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments PS. I'd better find out what a Spanx is. I just grocery-shopped for the slashed-price Christmas puds and so on.

message 1326: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited Dec 26, 2012 11:14PM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Spanx are a brand name, but what they are are those body hugging underwear things that suck you in and give you shape. there are so many brands these days but they are unviersally nicknamed 'Spanx' now.

I don't wear them because it is too hot up here. They are like wearing a wetsuit in summer. The closest I get to them are a singlet/camisole one that I wear in winter. :)

RE: xmas puds
Christmas Puds were as rare as hens teeth in my neck of the woods. It was like there was a national shortage of Puds! Lots of people went without. All the grocery stores had sold out weeks before Xmas. IGA, Woolies, Coles. All out.
We lucked onto one because someone had dumped one on a shelf in one of the aisles. We were doing our Xmas Shopping, depressed that there were no puds and VOILA! one materialised nestled amoungst the crumpets!

message 1327: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Hmm. I noticed a shortage of shortbread in Woolies, tonight. You'd think shortbread was never invented. But puds... I did puds...

message 1328: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments There was a shortbread shortage up here too! they had their bakery ones at Woolies, but not their nice packaged 'Select' ones. :(
I wanted one of those Glace Cherry Xmas puds at Woolies. I would have given my kingdom for one of them this Xmas...but they sold out in early December.

message 1329: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited Dec 26, 2012 11:23PM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments ...please don't tell me you got one of those glace cherry or whole orange xmas puds...:(

message 1330: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Ohhhh Terri, honestly, there are dozens of the cherry in my Woolies, half-price. I got the last orange instead. That is sad. I'm sad for you. Come on a trip?

There was almost no custard, and I was driven against my better judgement to get cream.

message 1331: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Ohhh NOOO!!! *weeps* that is devastating news to me.
I love glace cherries and if I could not get one of those I would have gotten one of the Orange ones. I am so disappointed. I bet they won't do them next year..this was the first year they did them.

Air fares are half price right now...... :D

message 1332: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments ...you must tell me what the Orange one is like when you eat it..so I can live vicariously through you. :(

message 1333: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments I guess that's logistics for you. Pud logistics as poor as the book-delivery we're talking about in the other thread.

message 1334: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I just think there was NSW favouritism. ;)
The Woolies Bakery lady told me that all stores (we have three in the major centre near us) had put in orders for the Glace Cherry and Orange puds and only one of the Woolies stores had any show up and they were the ones that sold out early December.

It was just not meant to be..

message 1335: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments I'm almost sorry I told you, but then, if it provokes you into a flight to Sydney, no harm done.

message 1336: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments LOL! Wouldn't that be funny. *knock knock* Hi Bryn, take me to this Woolies and show me the cheap cherry Xmas puds.
three hours later
*waving goodbye as I get back on the plane* Nice catching up. see you for the Pud sale next year!
;D

message 1337: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Perfectly reasonable behaviour. We'll just fit in a quick Spanx shop, too.

message 1338: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Haha. Yeah, why not. With all those Puds I might need some. :-)

message 1339: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Anyone else given thought to the GR's reading challenge for next year??

I managed to massively overshoot mine this year but I don't want to stress myself out by making it too big for next year. I'm thinking it will be 126 for 2013 and I already have a reading list for the year too. :)

That sounds like a good number, I started with 78 for 2012 with the same idea, 1.5 a week.

Terri | 19576 comments Tasha wrote: "I've done it twice now and think I'll pass this year."

I'm with you Tasha. I may pass too.
Done it for the last two years, might be a nice change to do a year om GR without the Challenge playing me in the background.
Of course, I am prone to changing my mind. :-)

message 1345: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I knew someone who did it this year. challenged himself to 1 book...a few months after he started it got the better of him and he changed it up to over 100. :-)

I would like to have a matching line of Challenges on my profile though. It will annoy me to have one year missing from the right side of my profile. So maybe I will not do the challenge for some of the year. You can always enter it at the end of the year sometime.

message 1346: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Bryn. Where did your post go. :(

message 1347: by Bryn (last edited Dec 28, 2012 02:34PM) (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments I thought it was dorky and deleted. Bad habit I know.

My second thoughts were: do challenges even work that way? Do they count the books you've read this year already, even if you set your challenge with days to go?

message 1348: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Hahaha. Nah, mate, it didn't look dorky. :-)

Re: Challenge even work that way
Do you mean you can enter them at any time of the year?

Yes, I am fairly sure you can. I remember with the first one I did, I didn't enter it until mid year.

message 1349: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments So if we challenge ourselves now for 2012, we try and figure out our book count? That challenge is sitting there tempting me at this time of year.

I vow not to 'unsay' posts, which confuses, even if it'd be handy in real life.

message 1350: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Yeah, I think if you guess a number for what you have read this year it should show them all.

I'd try with 1 though. :-) See if that shows.
