So there's two of us in the world?
Actually, I've joined in a discussion topic on the book for dissenters.

Thank you, David. :(

*hugs* We love them so much, that their deaths leave huge voids in our lives that can never be filled. People who say "it's only a pet", should be burned at the stake, IMHO.

Have you got a link to it? Sounds like something I would join.

So sad. Sorry to hear that Anne. It must have been such a shock. {{hugs}}

The Casual Vacancy is one I do plan to read and am going to go in with an open mind. I hear such diverse opinions and reviews on it but I have a feeling I might be in the group that enjoys it, at least I hope so. :)

Thank you, Margaret. I had her age wrong-she was only 11 1/2.

Thank you Tasha. Everybody's hugs are much appreciated.

Ah, let's see if I can do this... Turns out to be one of those question-threads, which I haven't got the hang of.

Doing that, I notice two of my friends have one-starred it. Which is more downright than my two stars.

My wife is reading it as we speak. Must be pretty good she's ignoring me...but then thats the norm!! Guess thats not really a good guage now that I think about it!!

As sad as that is, what a wonderful way for her to leave...by your side...in her sleep. My condolences still!!

PS. got to love how extremely mixed the reviews are. Opinion's a beautiful thing.
PPS. It might have too much about babies. I'm baby-allergic.

So sorry to hear about your dog Anne. any pet that has been part of the family for that must be so hard to lose.

Anne, oh no. Your poor thing. I am so terribly sorry to hear this awful news. My thoughts are with you.

I am baby allergic most of the time too.

Also some sad news from David. Sorry you lost the family cat last week.

As sad as it is when anyone loses a loved one, person or pet, it is a reminder of how precious life is and hopefully prompts us to do our best to savor the moments and value the times we spend with one another.
*Note: Nothing against cats in general -- and not that they need my disclaimer anyway, superior beings that they are. ;)

So, yes, I know the kind of cat you mean. :-)

Anne, I uploaded expecially for you in my profile a photo of my dachshund - he's sending you a doggy hug for your loss: you can't possibly resist to his sexy moustache.

It seems we've got a lot of pet people here -- maybe it goes hand in hand with being readers. It would be interesting to see the stats on that. I see Bobby's got four!
I've currently got two dogs, 16 month old white English Labrador Retrievers, brother and sister. Their names are Penny(f) and Chase(m) and they're a couple of crazy kids, although starting to mellow a little, thankfully. :) Someday, I'd like to get them a country property and some horses for them to 'play' with (ie. try not to get stepped on by), but that's a long way off, so for now the dog park and walks around the neighborhood will have to suffice. :)
What about the rest of the gang? Dogs? Cats? Rats? Snakes? Tarantulas? Iguanas? Designer pigs? Anyone? Bueller? :)

We also have hermit crabs, frogs, mice (who literally stink and we'll never get again!), a fish and a bearded dragon.

Thank you Bobby, I am still hurting. and Terri, Leslie and everyuone else who posted. David, I am sorry for your loss too. Knowing someone else is hurting too can ease my own hurt a bit.

The latter dragon looks like more fun than the former. If he isn't a grumpy old dragon that is.
Being summer here, and bearded dragons being native to Australia, the lizards are on the move. I only saw a large Bearded Dragon wandering across my yard two days ago.
I had three dogs until recently. Now have two. Two desexed boy dogs - a Jack Russell and a Kelpie cross, three girl cockateils, 7 chickens, and many many cows.

That song and so many others were songs we sung when I was at summer camp for several seasons in the fifties. Every once in a while one comes back to me and i usually remember the words too.

"Kookaburra sits on electric wire, jumping up and down with his pants on fire. Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookaburra. Hot your pants must be." --Characters!!! :)

It's a Aussie version of our chubby brown.
I haven't bryn no one can judge a nation on one person.

LMAO. My teenage humor years were devoted to Billy Connolly and Jasper Carrot.
