Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Would you believe it is still raining! My telephone keeps beeping flash flood alerts! The roof is leaking and the basement flooded. Happy, I wish I could send some rain your way too. You live in a hot spot like me, but the rain cooled things to an overnight low of 70+°.
This rain is killing my feet!

Movie recommendations: THE KING'S SPEECH

message 12604: by Linda (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments It has rained so much that frogs are clinging to the screen doors at the uppermost reaches. We have a resident squirrel that has not moved for two days from a high window ledge. Last night some big animal, probably a squirrel, ran back and forth in the attic over our bedroom. Normally, my husband would have sent me to the attic to identify the creature, but my foot in the boot precluded that option. So he played possum and did not hear a thing.

Catherine (catjackson) Linda, I hope the rain stops soon for you. We've had a lot of rain, but it nothing like you. The corn is already coming in (a month early) and the watermelons are also early. But at least I haven't had to water the lawn or flower beds.

Try and stay dry.

Jane | 3480 comments I watched the musical 1776 earlier. That has become a tradition on the Fourth.

Jerry Bennett | 147 comments Good luck Linda. I have been reading your weather reports with interest as someone who lives only a few miles from the wettest place in England. I even had to look up New Albany to see where this deluge was falling. I hope it lets up on you soon, as I have read some horror stories in the past about floods in and around the Mississippi, and I can't help recalling that old Johnny Cash song "Six feet high and rising". Best wishes, and I hope it passes soon.

Bobby (bobbej) | 1375 comments Visiting family in NW Georgia and has been raining for 24 straight hours now! Quite different weather for us coming from the desert.

message 12610: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) My six year old just finished all of the books currently released in a series of chapter books about Neverland and the fairies. The newest book isn't due out until the end of July. She's in agony waiting. "But mom there's still so much summer left and I'm almost out of books!" While I completely understand her feelings right now, secretly I'm laughing at her because some day she is going to wake up and realize she is 100% her mother's daughter.

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments On the Weather Forcaster don't know what they are talking about front

Last friday, July 3, the forcast was for 100+ temps for the next 7 days and no rain in sight

On the 4th it topped out at 95 and we had a pretty decent storm that night, today it didn't reach 90 and isn't supposed to top 90 in the next 7 days. I guess that means tomorrow will 100+ :)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments The deluge stopped Sunday, the fifth. The stationary front finally moved on the fifth. We had a shower of devil rain yesterday (the falls while the sun is shining).

I heard from two sources that Leonardo DiCaprio was killed in a plane crash, but I can find nothing about it on the net.. Have K been 'ho-axed'?

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Over on another thread we were talking about pronunciation woes. EDNYVED. and MARARED are Welsh names giving me fits in Here be Dragons by S. K. Penman. MARARED is Margaret in English. If someone can pronounce that other name, give it to me! Ms. Penman has given a very limited two or three word guide. I wonder how well English translates into other languages, especially in the movies/videos industries. Is the connotation lost in the translation? Would I even be worrying myself and all of you about this were I not still confined to my bed?

message 12630: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments It's either pronounced Ed-nu-ved or Ed-nee-ved

message 12631: by Jane (new)

Jane | 3480 comments In Welsh, GENERALLY, accent is on next-to-last syllable.

I'm guessing the other is MahRAHred.

Yup. I had a Welsh friend who called me Mah-RAH-red many years ago.

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments Had a very good Saturday. Called into the Australian Red Cross opportunity shop to discover they had been given four boxes of 1960s-1970s historical fiction and non fiction. Also discovered that I could take a Red Cross shopping bag and fill it with books for $6. Got 16 paperbacks! Many were new to me, but managed to get hold of several books that I have wanted to re-read, but have been unable to find copies, such as Taylor Caldwell's Dear and Glorious Physician

Am an extremely happy bunny. :D

message 12644: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) That's a good deal! On certain days the local Goodwill (which I am guessing is equivalent to your opportunity shop) sells books for 10 for $1.99. I rarely find 10 books I want to purchase but occasionally I get lucky between children's books and books for me.

message 12645: by Margaret, Sherlockian Sheila (new)

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments They've had the bag full for $6 before but I've never seen enough books I wanted to buy a bag full. :D

I was squealing like a kid in a candy store... LITERALLY.

Lisa | 728 comments I like to walk, that's about it for me. Or the physical exertion of chasing the last bit of chocolate in the house. But I take my hate off to real athletes. Good to see the team is doing well! You must be proud.

message 12649: by happy (new)

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments I walk a lot, roughly 40 miles/week - it helps control my diabetes and it has the added bonus of helping keep the Otisthedog out of trouble :)

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments Walking is my favourite form of exercise too. Just as well. I'll be spending much of my London holiday walking. :)
