Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
yay..I'm staying!! :DI can't believe I am actually staying. I lay awake through half the night all weepy because I had made my decision!
Its like if my husband asked me for a divorce and I packed my packs and just as I was heading out the door he yelled "psych!! I was totally kidding!"
Jane wrote: "I hope they keep a sharp eye on ALL these miserable, nasty authors and act quickly!!"Yes! I agree with that. I wish they had acted quicker, but at least they eventually acted and made the right decision. I hope they do that for other people that end up with the rough end of the author stick like I did.
Great news. We would all be poorer for an astute mind, humorous wit, and insightful reviewer. Good for all of us that you will stay. I am delighted
Holy 100+ new notifications Batman!I don't check Goodreads for one day and all hell breaks loose!
Terri? Are you here?
That author... really? Shouldn't she be off, oh I dunno, writing books or something? Sheesh. She must not be a very good author if she's got that much time on her hands. You are a lovely, caring person who was just doing her job. With all that work you put into this group and just being that lovely, caring person every day, I'm sure we all would have been devastated had you left. That's giving her way too much power and satisfaction, mate. I'm hella glad GR actually did something right!
Next time you need to gently admonish someone that's not following the (simple to follow) rules, just tell me and I'll tell them lol. They can drag my name thru the mud all they want, its only my nickname after all :) I got your back!
Oh I just got a bazillion more notifications while I was typing my paragraph above. ***joining in on happy dance***

:D
Only kidding.
You don't want that job. hahaha!
I will put on my combat boots and my brass knuckles... ok I don't have brass knuckles but I have lots of big chunky rings. My dukes are up!!! :D

Banksy immediately came to mind because, we were talking about him in my law class yesterday, and I got reminded of his good work! I don't exactly know how we got around to Banksy, but we talk and debate the most tangential topics you can imagine. Sometimes we spend a substantial part of a lesson talking about random things as opposed to actually learning about law! Have to say it's my favourite class in college!

(Joins the happy dance :))
Now that Terri is staying - back to our regularly scheduled Weather Reports
We finally had a decent snow storm - nothing like Boston, but there was six inches on the lawn and deck this morning. And even better, it's been warm enough so not much stuck to the Driveway/sidewalk, so I didn't have to shovel :)
Oh by the way. I will still be gradually, over a longer period of time, copying my non hist fic reviews to that new blog I set up.Not that I plan on ever leaving GR now that they have defended my honour and gained my rock solid loyalty.
But because it will be nice to have my reviews somewhere else as well as on GR. I have often thought I would like to post my non hist fic reviews somewhere as I have an eclectic genre palate. :)
Yay! Terri is staying with the us!... The best news I've seen so far today. *Claps hands and grinning widely*That explained why "the blog" is M.I.A. I though that there is something wrong with my browser.
I think we got 2-3 inches of snow but the winds picked up to 30-35 miles. Combine snow, wind, and flat land, and you get nasty driving conditions. Not only did my six year old get stuck at home but Mr. Gretchen did too. Of course the twinkers were both rather upset by the disturbance to their Tuesday schedule.
Um......told you so!! I wonder if threatening to go Viking on GR had anything to do with it?? Probably not! Welcome back Terri!!
hehe. thanks Bobby, thanks Lia!It is good to be back..and I guess while technically I had not yet gone, last night when I set up my new blog I had already checked out at that stage. I'd signed my walking papers. :D
To Terri. Major smiles and reciprocal hugs. The Florida sunshine just got brighter. We should all have the love and respect that I have seen exhibited for you on this site. Proof enough how invaluable you are.
Wow!! This good news makes the upcoming snow fall much easier to bear. I'll stay warm by doing the "happy dance" along with the others!
I know I don't talk all that often yet, but I'd just like to let Terri know how glad I am that she's staying. You've been a big part of making me feel welcome in this group, and I would have been sad to see you go.

I'm really sorry to lose you Terri lass. Because of work commitment I have only just caught up with this issue, and I feel really stunned by it. I value the comments you regularly post here. It just all seems so bloody unfair.
As a struggling Indie author, can I please emphasise that I would try to abide by whatever rules the group may have - it is a reading group after all. I'm a bit of a novice, so any comments made on my work are absorbed and taken on board, hoping they help my development as a writer. Why this person has reacted the way they have is beyond my comprehension. The value of this group to me is in introducing me to the work of other HF authors, again with the intention of improving my own writing. There are other ways to promote my own work without using this group to do so.
Stick with us if you can Terri. Don't act in too much haste. It may not seem so bad this time next week. Good luck!
I do not know what happened to Terri, but it sounds cruel and unjustified. Our moderators are good at what they do. I cannot imagine being without Terri. Terri has a heart of gold. All I know is that a vindictive person wrote something mean about Terri. I, a reader, stand up for Terri because she does not deserve maltreatment from anyone. It takes courage to do her job, a kind of courage that is oh so rare
Linda wrote: "I do not know what happened to Terri, but it sounds cruel and unjustified. Our moderators are good at what they do. I cannot imagine being without Terri. Terri has a heart of gold. All I know i..."Thankyou Linda. You are very dear to me. Thankyou for your kind words.
Hi Jerry,Thankyou for the support. I appreciate it. I am staying now, thanks to Goodreads sticking up for me and removing this author's defamatory blog post.
I really value your attitude as a self published author wanting to respect our ethos.
I am not anti author, I write myself (not published, don't know if I ever will try) so how can I be? Makes no sense that anybody would ever try and start a smear campaign against me and call me that.
If any author ever has a question about our author posting rules, please come to me to ask them. Or ask them in the author posting rules thread. I am happy to help and to help you work out how to mention your books without it being spam.
The majority of the time, I have author's flare up at me and send me insulting private messages and such, simply because they have not bothered to read our author posting rules. So when they get moderated, they get over the top outraged.
All could be avoided if only they read our author rules. And if confused by them, then come to me.
I have authors coming to me nearly every week, saying they aren't sure how to navigate our author rules.
I help them. Show them which threads their book will fit into. explain how to introduce their book without it being spam.
Explain that we have a freebie/giveaway thread which they can promote their giveaways/on sale books in.
explain that while you can only introduce your book the one time in our era threads, if somebody asks for a book recommendation and your book fits that request, you may present it to them.
Authors just need to remember, that each group will have their own rules in regards to authors contributing as authors. And it is the right thing to do, to make sure you all remember those rules when you go to say anything about your book or your writing projects.
If you can't remember the rules, then revisit them or ask me to clarify them.
No friction ever need occur. :)
As a very eclectic reader, I spend my time on several boards, so my time here is limited. But I got to appreciate this group, the great reading ideas I get here and the way discussions are being moderated. Terri, thanks for staying, not only for the writers in this group, but also for all the readers. I really enjoy your group, I know I'll spend more good times here.
Thats really lovely, Ioana. Thanks for taking the time to post.I too hope for more good times here for you all..readers and authors alike. :)

Yippee!
Okay. I really hope i'm not going off the deep end. I could have sworn that recently there was a discussion going on in one of the posts about First and Third person POV and why First person does not lend itself easily to Historical Fiction. Where did that discussion go? Did I read it on a blog? If anyone knows what I'm talking about please let me know :D
I don't know what you are talking about. :)I have no recollection of that discussion happening. I didn't see it if it did happen. I would remember that discussion if I had seen it, because I would emphatically disagree with 1st person narratives not working in HF. I think 1st narratives are one of the best styles to use in hist fic.
Some of my favourite books are done thusly.
ie The Warrior Chronicles (Saxon Stories) Bernard Cornwell and The Oathsworn Series by Robert Low
Weather Report! After the thunderstorm with hail passed on through last night, the ice and snow hit again. Plus, it is colder than a witch's--well, it is cold! I am feeling a little frisky today or I would never said what I said. Admonish me if it was too crude. We had no power, no wood to burn, no electric blanket, no way to recharge ereader batteries, no milk and no bread! Power is back and I am watching PLANET OF THE APES! I cannot believe I am actually watching it. I have lost my mind!
Linda, there is nothing wrong with saying it is as cold as a witch's tit. Tit is a bird isn't it? ;)
Terri wrote: "Linda, there is nothing wrong with saying it is as cold as a witch's tit. Tit is a bird isn't it? ;)"
They used to use "witch's elbow" on M*A*S*H*. :)
I'm with you Linda. It's getting that cold here too. After a couple of hours of rain and then sleet we've had at least 3-4 inches of snow. School closed at noon today and I get to sleep in tomorrow as they've already decided to close the University for tomorrow. It's great to get a snow day but I had some work I needed to do. And next week I start seeing between 6-10 students a day as we move into planning classes for the fall semester. I can work at home, but it's not the same and I had some meetings I had to cancel.
It's suppose to be in the high 40's, maybe low 50's next week. I have to take the girls sledding before the snow melts! Maybe spring will come on time this year. I remember it being terribly cold well into May last year. Summer seemed shorter than normal.
