It was not a total bust, but the good news is that I am now more into writing than I was before. I guess that when I was working I did not have time to explore this activity, although I read like a maniac, but this course showed me that it is great fun to write and if no one sees it or they do, I have had the fun of doing it, so now I am looking at open university for some writing tips, and if anyone knows of others avaiable on line let me know. I am also patiently waiting for my copy of cornwall's book, which doesn't come out in the states till next month

Actually, two different sides of the family! The grandfather that had it was my mothers father. No other known cancers of any kind in my family. All my great and great great grandparents died peacefully of old age! I think one had a stroke...

Awesome! Thanks for all the hard work Terri, especially with all you have going on!

I haven't written for a few years, but when I do write I write for myself and don't care if anybody sees it, or if it gets published. When I write, I write to get a story and some characters out of my head for the sheer fun of it.

You're welcome. :) It did my head in at first, because I was using the laptop touchpad to go back and forth, highlight, copy paste etc... once I plugged in the wireless mouse and used that instead it was a breeze.

Agreed, we went this year and were about 5 rows back
Wow, that list is a labour of love Terri; I hope to get a couple of books of it for my January holiday. I work Christmas.I hope you, Mr Terri and the farm all come through the health glitch fine. I am sure you will, the Warfarin care programs are pretty good these days. And I work in a medical lab, so I actually have pretty good faith in QLD healthcare.
Working on Christmas itself or just the week of Christmas?? I've lucked out this year with only having to work 3 days between the 24th and 5th.
I work for the Fed gov't and Pres Obama has given us TWO days off for Christmas this year. Plus I work a compressed work schedule and I am using up the last of my use or lose annual leave, so I work two days between the 23rd and the 3rdMaybe I can catch up on my reading :)
Only two?? That's nice! I've already used up my meager amount of vacation time so I couldn't book any more off but the office is closed for the three I am working so I'll be able to work in peace for once!
I work for a local/municipal government myself. You have those in the States right?? Or are they county governments??
There are both city/municipal gov'ts as well as county level. In some cases the county gov't doubles as a municiple gov't - in areas that are unincorperated. There is also the state level gov't
State level is approximately the same as our Provincial level. So that means that County government is like our Regional Districts, they do the same with unincorporated areas too.
For countries so close together it does seem like we should know more about each other but I'm always figuring out something I didn't know before. :)
We really should :)levels of gov't in the US from the one nearest to the citizen to the furthest

Mr. Gretchen and I are taking bets on whether or not the twins scream when we take them to Santa today. I am predicting nuclear meltdowns.
Gretchen wrote: "Mr. Gretchen and I are taking bets on whether or not the twins scream when we take them to Santa today. I am predicting nuclear meltdowns."Eek! Good luck!
My roommate took her dog to see Santa today.

Thanks, mate. He found this cool App for his iPad too. That can follow his Warfarin progress. It's called INR Plus.
I always find it amazing that he gets blood drawn once a week and he has the results that same day.
His Doctor has also done DVT courses too, so he's up to date on all the latest dvt stuff.
I think you are right about QLD healthcare. They are fairly good.

I'm kind of okay with that. I have alwasy thought it was creepy. And so do a lot of kids!
Kids have always wanted to see Santa and get close, but as soon as they are told to sit on his knee for a photo they have a nervous breakdown. :)
(obviously not all kids do this. Common though)

OMG. That's so cute!"
Which bit....?
Probably the public holidays, definitely all the days in between. It's not so bad, I get Eater off to go camping in the pine forest at Armadale NSW.

Oh, yes they still do and the toddlers for the most part don't want any part of it. I haven't heard of any movement to ban it here, I might be wrong though.
We had our 2 grandkids over to help decorate the tree, bake cookies and wrap caramels last night - their excitement (esp the 4 yr old) helps this old(er) man remember the excitement and spirit of Christmas :)

At the age of three I screamed the roof off the shopping mall when my mum tried to put me on Santa's knee.
I remember not liking the Santa thing very much as a kid. My parents tried it once - only the once I think - and I screamed too. :)Finished Xmas shopping on Sunday. All presents now wrapped and under the tree.
Next thing I'll be working on is all the sweets I cook for Christmas Day.
From what my parents told me it seemed to be potluck. I was happy to sit and cuddle some Santas...others I screamed the roof off if I was dragged anywhere near them.
Oh crap, those poor people.I had not seen the latest news.
For those who have not seen it either.

Jus caught it on the British news after switching over from NFL for the night.... doesnt look too good with the folk pressed against the shop window.... :( one comment the reporter (Aussie) made was that the governor had offered all "Federal & commonwealth" support available

I am not sanguine about that Edward. The siege started at 9.45 this morning. It is now 3.00pm and the hostage taker has issued no demands. This really worries me.
Well I guess the world knows how the siege ended, so I won't go into it. Time to move on and get back to business.
Good to see so many members taking the opportunity of joining others in devoting January to past group reads. Lot of great books have been and gone. Nice to see that they will get considered again.
Had to look him up to see who he was. Not an author of children's book we are familiar with here. Sounds like he was a national treasure in the US.
Clifford, I remember those books. Though my family was more into Robert Munsch and Allen Morgan, or I guess I should say that's who my Mom liked so that's what she bought us!
I only remember Richard Scarry's Best Storybook Ever!. My grandmother had it at her house. No doubt picked up for 10 cents at the secondhand store. :)
If you find time, watch the Hallmark movie CHRISTMAS IN CONWAY. It will air tonight, but check your listings. Mary Louise Parker and Andy Garcia star in the film. Get your flu shot! I didn't, and guess what?!
Linda wrote: "Get your flu shot! I didn't, and guess what?! "More time to watch movies? (Albeit through a the thin haze left my flu medicines) ;-)
