Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments I'm about 9 in front. I can afford to rest on my laurels. :)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments After three days of Husband nagging (yes, men do nag) me to get the shingles vaccination, I relented yesterday. The clinic was full of people, but he marched me right on in, asked the price, nurse told him $195.00. Without skipping a beat, he said "Linda, I know you think you need this vaccination, but I don't think you do. Shall we forget the shot and go home?" I grinned.

After the post herpetic neuralgia in my right arm went away and it took years, I finally did have the vaccination.
'They' say you can't get shingles after having it once, but with my luck I'd be the one in a million who does. :)

message 7604: by Linda (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Having had it once, you don't want it again, do you? It would be nice if the vaccine makers would lower the price.

message 7605: by Jane (new)

Jane | 3480 comments I don't remember what I paid, but it was worth it to me. The pain is like being on fire with no way to extinguish it. Yes, it would be nice if they did, but I'm sure there will be competitors eventually, which will lower the cost.

message 7606: by Portia (new)

Portia Linda, are you anywhere near a Walgreen's pharmacy? They offer both flu and shingles vaccines. Spouse and I got the flu vacs at Walgreen's the past two winters and they were quite effective. In fact, at one point, I experienced what seemed to be the flu in fast forward -- all the symptoms but within 24 hours -- like a movie. I know how weird that sounds, but I'm not clever enough to make it up.

SO, I suggest you call your closest Walgreen's (actually, any pharmacy. I hear ads for CVS as well) and ask them what their prices are. Their staff is very friendly and the vacs seem to be effective. I KNOW they were not as expensive as that clinic you and your hub went to.

That wasn't an advert, was it? Sorry!

Cooksbooks put me in the minus column! I love reading them and then I MUST try the recipe. Hours turn into days.

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments I will do that Portia! That is good advice.

Putting that up my sleeve for later in the year if I still can't get in front. :D

Mind you..I do read every word of a cookbook and some of them have a lot of reading in them. :)

She was married to John Balliol, after whom Balliol college, Oxford is named. Fans of Robin Hood will be intrigued by the fact that he was also the Sheriff of Nottingham for a time. Their son was the (in)famous John Balliol who as the King of Scotland was humiliatingly stripped of all titles by Edward Longshanks of England leading to the nickname "Toom Tabard" - empty coat - see The Lion Wakes by Robert Low

message 7636: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Wow, I am Saint Margaret. Not exactly what I'd pick!

Some facts about the person:
•Margaret heard about the death of her husband and son Edward when she was at Edinburgh Castle, where she died a few days later, supposedly of grief. Her youngest son, King David I, built a chapel in her honour at the castle around 1130. Restored in the 19th century, it is the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh.
•Margaret and husband Malcolm III established Dunfermline Abbey in 1070, and are buried together there. It was said that even in death, their bones could not be separated.

Did you know?
•Sister of Edgar Aethling, Margaret met future husband Malcolm III in 1068 when she and her family sought asylum from the Norman invasion in Scotland.
•She had six sons and two daughters with Malcolm: Edward, Edmund, Ethelred, Edgar, Alexander, David, Edith and Mary. Three of her children (Edgar, Alexander and David) became kings of Scotland.
•Famously pious, Queen Margaret invited Benedictine monks to Scotland and is said to have owned a piece of the True Cross, within the Black Rood of Scotland.
•She was canonised in 1249 by Pope Innocent IV in recognition of her considerable religious and charitable work, and her head became a holy relic!
•The towns of South Queensferry and North Queensferry are named after her. As an expression of piety, Margaret established a ferry across the Forth to assist pilgrims visiting Dunfermline and St Andrews.
•St Margaret’s husband Malcolm appears as a minor character in Shakespeare’s play Macbeth.
•St Margaret was believed by many to provide miraculous help in the dangerous business of childbirth. Mary Queen of Scots sent for her head (held in a silver reliquary) to watch over her as she gave birth in Edinburgh Castle.

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments I got Sir Walter Scott too. Wouldn't say I'm delirious with joy, but how they describe him is probably not too off the mark, except for this bit
You’re popular and internationally famed for your own tales
I'm pretty sure I've lead to boring a life for that to be true. Except for this one time at a hostel in Glasgow......

My husband and I both got the shingles vaccine through Kaiser free of charge and then we both got shingles within a year! The doctor said it doesn't always work. Since we both got shingles I'd say odds are it doesn't work a lot of the time. My husbands' lasted a week or two and I was miserable for 7 very long weeks.

Well, today she called and said my 24 year old granddaughter is having twins and she just found out today. I waited for the April Fools and guess what? It's true! What's the chances?

My twin girls will be two on Monday. My in laws like to tell everyone we had to have twins the second time around so grandma and grandpa didn't have to fight over who's turn it was to hold the baby. Good luck to your granddaughter!

Is that the chances of someone having twins? That surprises me. I don't know anybody with twins. Well, there is my Aunt who has adult twins. Other than those twins born in the 80's, I don't know any other.
Is 1 in 16 a US stat or a worldwide stat?

message 7649: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I got Bonnie Prince Charlie in the questionnaire. Did anybody else get him?

This was his description:
Charming and handsome, you’re pretty confident you deserve to get whatever you want. You also like to dress well, and always look good - whether dressed in your own clothes or those of an Irish maid. Some say you could stand to talk less and listen more, but those would be unkind people, who probably don’t even believe in the Divine Right of Kings.

I have to agree with the last line for sure. :D
