One way or another Derek will be back, but I will miss you in the mean time mate. Take care, :)

Wow what a mess.
Our welfare is less complicated and messed up, but then I guess we have a much smaller population than the US so it is easier to police the welfare system.
Over here they don't send you a cheque you have to go in every two weeks and report in before you get paid.
This from the dole website:

To keep receiving Newstart Allowance, you need to report to us, usually each fortnight, to make sure you are still eligible and getting paid the right amount.
In most cases, you need to report before you can be paid. You need to report on the date shown on your Reporting Statement or on the next working day. Your payments are paid into your bank account each fortnight.
What to report
You need to report your:
income from employment
Job-search activities
approved activities
changes in circumstance

Had a look at my GR challenge again because I could have sworn I had read more than five books this year so far...but it is true..it is all true. Only 5 books in two and a half months. I have not read so few books for a long time.
Ah well. Now I am back in full swing again, I think I'll get my reading rate back on track.

Well, you did have an excuse. I've had no excuses (and more time!) and still didn't read as much as normal. Went thru a very rare slump in February and just now getting back to reading :/

Technically I think its deposited into a bank account instead of an actual paper check but you get the drift. How is one to keep check? They are supposed to. So if they deposit $$ in your account, naturally people are going to use it.

Financially isolate Putin and his cronies and hit them hard in the pocket I think is the right way to go. I stop watching the news as it depresses me so much. I remember the sixties and seventies and more recently after 9/11 and the feeling of doom at times, which only drags you down.
On the other hand I think of Derek's situation and know I'm not in a bad place and things could be a lot worse.
In 2009 I lost my job after 35 years after a management cull, with no redundancy pay and 2 months wages. I thought that was the end of my working life but thankfully got a job after a year or so at the age of 56. So Derek always look on the bright side, I know how you feel, and there is work and hope out there.
Keep smiling and be positive.

My wife is classed as disabled. Her disability allowance was stopped as a government medical deemed her fit for work, despite the fact she can't drive, use machinery, work with the public etc. Three appeals and a court hearing all of which cost up to £30,000 finally concluded she WAS disabled and started paying disability allowance. This all took 18 months and a lot of worry to conclude.
Kicking you whilst you are down is what I call it, others may call it deficit reduction.
Ha, could always move to the U.S. All you need is a stubbed toe.On a serious note, again, that's awful! I'm glad they finally came around. Its such a shame that people who legitimately need it, have to go thru such loops and hurdles while you have deadbeats that cheat the system (and get away with it!) living like kings.

Unfortunately it was all down to the company carrying out the medicals being paid for the amount of people they got off the allowance. Any subsequent appeal or court appearances did not penalise the company for a wrongful appraisal, so they still got there money. A flawed system.

My ATOS assessor (doctor) was horrified they MADE me come to be accessed when she read my condition(s), couldnt apologise & help enough, sorted my monies out in 5 days of seeing her after the prior 12 months of aggro.
Its all shyte really. C'est la vie, keep smiling.
I am so sorry Derek. Will miss you here and keep my fingers crossed for you so that you return soon making lots of money.
Haydn wrote: "Three appeals and a court hearing all of which cost up to £30,000 finally concluded she WAS disabled and started paying disability allowance."Gee that's a financial commitment. Did the givernment pay any of the expenses after you won? Or did you have to pay the full amount.
I think the legal system charges far too much money for their services.
I see the MH 370 memes have started. I should be disgusted, but when I get one that has Gilligan, Skipper and The Professor standing beside a Malaysian Airlines 777 I couldn't help but giggle.

Courtney Love says she knows where the plane crashed.

Just a quick check in as I'm borrowing my cousins computer. Thank you all so much for you kind words & support. It really means a lot to me & definitely helps me to keep a positive, optimistic outlook on things. :) Thanks all!

The government paid it all as part of the appeals process. Didn't cost us a penny. The problem was that my wife's doctor certified she couldn't work, she has epilepsy, but the powers that be wouldn't accept that decision. So they wasted £30,000 on an open and shut case.
The fun part was watching them backtrack when my solicitor asked if my wife was now allowed to drive, now she wasn't disabled. The answer was "No". "Why not" asked the solicitor? "Because she has Epilepsy" came the reply. "Therefore she is disabled is she not?"
They could only agree.
It was that simple, but it cost the taxpayer a lot of money to get that simple fact through to them!

Thanks to your cousin for letting you use the computer, Derek. Now you can drop by and hang out with us more than expected. :)
I'm actually at my library right now & my allotted time is almost up, but my cousin is being a big help to me right now. I'm certainly thankful to have a family member here in my town. I'm gonna try & hang out as much as possible. :)

A friend of mine came across this article by a pilot regarding MH370. It makes more sense than anything else I have read.http://www.wired.com/autopia/2014/03/...
Haha. Actually, I don't think I'd have passed if I was still a kid. My school sucked. Didn't learn a thing. I was reading at three, learned it all on my own. Now, this genius needs to go to bed :)

9/10 Thought the Wm the B######d was too obvious, so went for Wm II.
There is no way I would have answered any of that quiz right in school. Up until about 5 years ago I don't think I would have gotten more than a couple actually.
