If getting beat with a cane made your behavior stop then yes but if it after being beat with the cane you continue doing whatever it was that made you receive that punishment then no

That does sound horrible..My parents are bad with punishments. If I ever did something bad my mom would just yell "blah blah blah" and tell me not to do it again..and the next time I would do it, I would hear the same speech all over again.
