Dd did you base any of your characters in Broken City (or others) on people you have met? Even just a little bit?

Lorraine - even more loving in 2012 ♥ wrote: "Who/what inspired you for the characters in Broken City? If you had to use actors to make them more "real", who would you chose?"I haven’t recreated anyone, but I have used some characteristics of people I know: Ralph’s ability to excite the children is based on my sister Amy, who is present and now blushing!!!
Thanks, DD. I'm with you on that. It's good to have a plot because it gives us a direction in which to write, but when/if the characters take over it's good to let them :-)
Jud (Krisztof) wrote: "Dd did you base any of your characters in Broken City (or others) on people you have met? Even just a little bit?"Yep, Ralf's ability to excite the children is FIRMLY based on my sister Amy!!!

DD have just popped over and one clicked 'Broken City' - where did you get the cover artwork from? I like it!
Hi Robert and welcome !DD, how much time on average do you spend on writing per day? Do you have a particular time that you prefer to do your writing, or is it random?

No offense DD for this... SHE WRITES ALL THE BLOOMING TIME!!
Emma (Emzibah) wrote: "DD have just popped over and one clicked 'Broken City' - where did you get the cover artwork from? I like it!"Thank you so MUCH!!!
I have a picture on the wall that we've had in our house for AGES!!! Whenever I looked at it I reminded me of B/C. I know an artist and asked her if she'd be willing to do a cover, she was and did several mock ups until we settled on that one. So now I have an oil painting on my wall of the cover!!! Freeline did the graphics!

My Mum would say I write ALL DAY...but that's not strictly true!!! I don't write every day, but when I do I tend to write a lot at once.
Jud (Krisztof) wrote: "Except when she is on here Amy, which is a lot as well."Not joking, when we were kids she often woke in the middle of the night and started scribbling coz she had suddenly thought of a good plot!!!!
Before I went into Nursing I did Graphic Design (the massive U-Turn in career is a loooong story and not for now!!) But I do notice the covers, particularly of the Indies as some are badly done (sorry to offend anyone!) but yours is fab, and a lovely story to go with it too!

You welcome and Thank you for sharing your amazing writing with us:)
DD, you mentioned Wattpad. I've been thinking of posting some shorter works there and have friends who've done the same. How has the experience been for you?
Claribel wrote: "DD from where you get your ideas:)"It started with a dream I had, nothing very long, just some people in a room in a tower block talking about a child who had been kidnaped.
I couldn't get the scene out of my head, I had so many questions:
Why were they there?
Why had the boy been taken?
How would they get him back?
And so I started to write!

Oh I know now... fan of Supernatural are we, DD? Do you find that yoou get inspiration from other "fictional" programmes and books?
Hi again Sabrina here, Do you imagine your characters physically? i.e. can you see them in your head while you write?
Kristine wrote: "DD, you mentioned Wattpad. I've been thinking of posting some shorter works there and have friends who've done the same. How has the experience been for you?"It is still hard to get people to read your work,EVERYONE has a story on wattpad and a lot of people do Read 4 Reads (You read there work, they read yours) I don't tent to do them myself because it's a cheat, but that does make it harder.
That having been said, B/C has been read on wattpad by 370ish people.
So yes, give it a try, but expect to have to work for your reads! :-)

I like him in 'Dark Angel' he played Alec, I liked him because his character as he did quite a lot of developing over the series.

Do you find it worth the effort? I mean, do the reads and comments help you somehow? I've heard varying opinions on that.
I would just like to say how talented I think you are :-) you are really going to go far fabulous good work x

S.g. wrote: "Hi again Sabrina here, Do you imagine your characters physically? i.e. can you see them in your head while you write?"They get clearer as the story goes on! I don't like to tell the reader all of the Characters physical attributes AT ONCE!!!
So it gives me more time to build an image in my mind, that is based partly on what they are like as people.
You know the quote about a rose smelling sweeter by any other name (Or something like that! lol!) I find names really matter to me!!!
In 'Dombey and Son' the hero's name is Walter, but everyone calls him Wally! I threw me every time I read it!!!

D.d. wrote: "In 'Dombey and Son' the hero's name is Walter, but everyone calls him Wally! I threw me every time I read it!!! "IS this why you got into the habit of shortening everyone's name?

But when you get people who really love your story, comment on every chapter, and vote on every chapter....then it's REALLY, REALLY worth it!!!
It just means so much more because a lot don't bother.
