Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 1081 comments I found receipts of the book left within the book. Also I found a fundraiser candy bar wrapper with a discount for Subway from 1994.

Joe Informatico (joeinformatico) | 888 comments I found an actual bookworm once:

(More likely a maggot or grub, as bookworms don't actually exist.)

It was in some edition of Erotica: An Anthology of Women's Writing.

Adrian (aashdown) The most unusual find for me was not something found in a book, but a particular book itself ...

A few years back I occasionally visited a quirky little bookshop in a nearby town, and every now and then I eyed up an old copy of "Don Quioxte" on a top shelf, but never actually took it down to look at it.

One day I finally bought it. It was an edition published in 1926. This particular copy had a note in the front where it had been given as a christmas gift to someone in 1942.

When I finally found time to read it, I discovered something that blew my mind ... this particular book had *never* been read! And I know this because it was a rough-cut book that had a significantly large number of pages that were still uncut!

I spent many happy hours reading this book, with a knife at hand to separate each new uncut page I came across, grinning each time I did so knowing that I was the first to read it since it was printed.

I have just pulled it out of the depths of my bookshelves, and it has me grinning again ... I think I may have to forgo the next S&L pick and re-read this instead :-)

Tasha I have twice found cards of bible scripture, both in books on evolution. One new and one used.

Brandi (biddywink) | 23 comments I work in a library at the circulation desk, so I see a lot of books a day. I've found a used Q-tip, a (hopefully unused) disposable floss pick, and used tissues galore. My little cubicle is covered in cool postcards I've found from across the world. I've bookmarks from all over, including a couple commemorating 50-year anniversaries of couples--with pictures.

The neatest thing I found was a letter in its stamped envelope from 1948.

Melanie (melaniebopp) | 5 comments I am also at a library circulation desk - I think my favorite was someone's sonogram pictures at 6 month pregnant. There is also the usual - various bits of notes, letters, pictures, the occasional check...

Yeah, Melanie, I see lots of "various bits." I worry for the patrons who leave bank statements and social security letters in books: IDENTITY THEFT, PEOPLE!

that is so cool that you keep some of the stuff you find. I can just imagine an office filled with peoples lost odds and ends. Looks cool in my mind.

Cassian Brown What a great idea for the start of a mystery-thriller ...
