Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 113 comments I write very few reviews...I think writers are the harshest critic and even when I enjoy a book my perpencity is to mention things that don't work for me (Too much time spent in critique groups I guess). Since it is difficult to change my spots, I tend to keep those opinions to myself because I know even if I had issues other might end up loving it...and taste is very subjective. A "technique" that I love someone else might hate and visa versa.

That being said...I adore people who do write reviews of my books of course ;-) To be honest I've actually gotten more out of a well written bad review than a great review that just gushes. Any feedback is preferable to a cricket's chirp. Hmmmm....maybe I should rethink my ways.

Jason Bergman (loonyboi) I try to review books where I have a definite opinion. If a book I read is just middle of the road, and I don't have anything to contribute, I just rate it

terpkristin | 4407 comments I try to write reviews of all of the books I read. Sometimes I don't have a lot to say. But I always try to write something. The more a book moves me (good OR bad), the more I tend to write.

I'm an engineer by day, though, so I'd say my writing isn't all that great.

Vince | 8 comments I try to rate all the books I read but I don't always leave reviews. I'm a musician and I find that I think of books and music the same.

I love music. All music. Jazz moves me. Symphonies stir me. Rock awakens something inside. Concertos inspire me. Punk & Alternative make me smile. Country makes me dance, or cry. Opera puts me to sleep. Pop fills up all the space in between.

I enjoy books in the same exact fashion. I want to feel something when I read. It's not so much important to me what is being said as compared to how it is being said. Does that make sense? Don't get me wrong the story needs to be good, but I don't, really don't, care about your world views, historical accuracy, or propagandizing objectives. So when I leave a review it tends to be on books that have moved me in some way. Sorry for the rant.

Kris (kvolk) I rate everything and I am trying to write a review now as well. Mostly just to have a thought or two down for myself to reference in the future.

Tamahome | 7235 comments As for people I follow, Felicia Day's reviews are good to follow if you don't mind some romance in your sff:

Keith Kelly (nedkelly) | 79 comments Writing reviews is one of my New Years resolutions. I don't write at all really and I'm hoping that thinking about what I'm reading with a more critical eye, and writing my opinions in a review will be a good excercise for me.

this.

Usually just two to three sentences, for me. Unless it's either really bad or really good.

Kate O'Hanlon (kateohanlon) | 778 comments I usually just throw down one or two sentences unless there's something specific in the book I want to talk about.

Phil On The Hill (philonthehillexon) | 263 comments Liked Vince's comments on how it was being said. Totally agree. Well articulated ( did not think it was a rant) :-)

message 12: by Esther (new)

Esther (eshchory) I try to rate every book marked as read.
I rarely bother with a review if it was read before I joined GR.
I'm aiming to review every book I've read since joining even if it is only a few words.
I tend to gush if I love a book so I limit myself to a couple of sentences. I have most fun with the bad reviews and sometimes I allow my inner-bitch to let rip.
I pay much more attention to a friend's review than their rating and base my choice of books on their opinions.

kvon | 563 comments I don't so much write reviews, as things a book made me think about or feel, or that may trigger memories later on. I try to write my reviews for future me rather than other people.

message 14: by Ed (new)

Ed [Redacted] (ed__) I have reviewed nearly every book I have read in the last year and a half or do. I haven't had a ton of time lately though

message 15: by AndrewP (new)

AndrewP (andrewca) | 2670 comments I usually write something, even if it is only my thoughts on the book. That way when I go back to it later it will jog my memory.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments I always write reviews of what I read. I actually have been thinking about taking literary criticism sometime to write better about writing.

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 1081 comments The number two best reviewer on Goodreads, Stephen Sullivan writes a lot of great and funny reviews with a lot of graphic throw into. He reviews many science fiction and fantasy books. He has more books than I can think of. Here is the link to his profile:http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/14...

All of my pre-GR reads are just ratings, but whenever I re-read something or finish something new I try to write at least a short review (but sometimes laziness makes me just rate them).
