message 1202: by Will (new)

Will Kester | 1047 comments Wow...that was quick. Last one was what? eighteen days? Not quite?

message 1203: by Will (new)

Will Kester | 1047 comments I may have been to quick to assume it was correct. I can't find any connection to Israel ben Eliezer. My bad. Good night.

Actually, folks pronounce it both ways & more, but I always prefered /mick-lauf-lin/. Folks always want to spell my last name that way, for some reason. MacLachlan is pronounced /Mack-Lock-Lan/.

message 1205: by Will (new)

Will Kester | 1047 comments I thought it was Mack Laugh Line.

I must have missed where all this began. It's the same as "The McLaughlin Report"

I like that version!

I think that my family's version is Irish via Brooklyn accent. I'm sure there are more authentic variations.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Susanna wrote: "Charlemagne?"

Yes! All yours!!!

message 1219: by Will (new)

Will Kester | 1047 comments In my searches of "silver pound" Charlemagne's name was never mentioned. It did suggest that silver became currency during the time of Charlemagne and then when Susanna go it, I found this in his bio:

A stable currency was maintained; but the scarcity of gold in France and the decline of trade led to the replacement of Constantine’s gold solidus with the silver pound.

I was close, but no cigar. Whatchyah got for us, Susanna?
