Will Kester | 1047 comments Oops, I missed the "Sound of Music" and "... Money clues. I can't make many of the clues fit my (poor) knowlede of Majorie Post. She did lead a lavish lifestyle, though.

Ted (efcorson) | 151 comments Hugh Hefner?

message 457: by Old-Barbarossa (new)

Old-Barbarossa Are they all just random phrases rather than clues?
Will 13 be: Elephant banjo?
I am truly bewildered...

message 458: by Ted (last edited Mar 18, 2009 09:33AM) (new)

Ted (efcorson) | 151 comments Me, too. I realize that Legion d'honneur and "The Sound of Music" sure don't sound like Hefner, and F.O.B. has me stumped -- unless you mean "a F.O.B" as in Friend of Bill.

I just can't think of a celebtrity (Life magazine) with toxic step-children who was so wealthy that he/she had F--- You Money and (in a divorce settlement?) "kept the Bentley."

message 459: by Will (new)

Will Kester | 1047 comments Those clues, Ted, fit Marjorie Post, plus she was inducted into Legion of Honor. Sound of Music? I have no idea.

message 460: by Will (last edited Mar 18, 2009 10:35AM) (new)

Will Kester | 1047 comments "Sound of Music? I have no idea." Maybe Julie Andrews? Nahhhh....

I decided it must be a female because of "kept the Bentley" and "Life" clues but that may be an erronius assumption.

message 461: by Ted (new)

Ted (efcorson) | 151 comments Yet, Marjorie Merriweather Post:

Proud to be known as F.O.B.?
Conversion to catholocism? just doesn't hack it.

F.O.B. could mean Friend of Bill, Free on Board, Fresh off the Boat, Forward Operating Base, Fall Out Boy, Federal Office Building, or Fractional Orbital Bombardment!

message 462: by Ted (new)

Ted (efcorson) | 151 comments Will, maybe the "Sound fo Music" refers to a tryst she had at the Dorchester with Christopher Plummer when he was a teenager? After all, the Von Trapp family was Catholic. haha

message 463: by Will (last edited Mar 18, 2009 11:14AM) (new)

Will Kester | 1047 comments F.O.B. is a shipping term for Free on Board, usually. I'm sure that's not the reference meant here. Marjorie Post married several times and may have converted to be Catholic for a husband...maybe? Maybe not.

She owned several homes and the Rue Boissy area of Paris would have fit her M.O., as would the Dorchester. Chicken hash? I'm clueless.

message 464: by Manuel (new)

Manuel | 1439 comments Will your assumption is not wrong.

not Julie Andrews
not random clues

Ted (efcorson) | 151 comments Manuel wrote: "Will your assumption is not wrong.

Manuel, so do you deny Hugh Hefner and Marjorie Merriweather Post? I thought the way this worked is you say "no" to each wrong guess, however lame.

I've spent a lot of time on this one. I would not be at all upset if you just told us who it is.

message 466: by Will (last edited Mar 18, 2009 12:18PM) (new)

Will Kester | 1047 comments So it is a female. I still think it might be Marjorie Post. I can't make all the clues fit, but she comes closer than any others I think of; closer than the Unsinkable Molly Brown, I'd think. She was honored by the Legion. So was Sarah Bernhardt but she wasn't very wealthy. Marie-Helene de Rostchild had some serious F U Money, but nothing else fits, except the Legion Honor.

There's not that many females, who recieved the Legion Honor: Sharon Stone (yeah, really) and Barbara Streisand, a few French Resistance heroines, etc. Covered by Life magazine cross-referenced to list of Legion honorees should do it. Anyone good at that sort of research?

But next time, Manuel, you're limited to 25 clues, ok?

Will Kester | 1047 comments Think? What is that? Oh, I remember...something I used to do but gave up years ago. I'd rather find a way to cheat like Manuel does. Just playing.

I'm starting a pool on how many clues Manuel's choice will requre before it's solved, and taking bets it's Susanna or Jim, who will solve it. I pick 16 clues and Susanna to win it.

Manuel | 1439 comments Oh come on Guys!
I practically left you a trail of breadcrumbs to all her lovers and husbands. LOL

Regarding clue #10 Kept the Bentley.
Supposedly after her 7 year romance with Gianni Agnelli (head of Fiat) was over; he only left her a Paris apartment and a Bentley. I thought that was ironic, since she also changed her religion for him.
He could have at least thrown in a few more Fiats!!!

message 495: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) In 1861, he joined the First African Light Cavalry & in 1870, during the Franco-Prussian War, he went to England. He met Boudin & learned to paint on the beaches of Normandy. I guess it could be someone else, but he meets all of Will's clues.
