Ayman (AymanJaffer) | 8 comments 1.A strong/poignant image from the section: “She cannot face the agony of giving birth, of holding her baby in her arms, only to have it taken away again.”
2.A new word: Dexterously, Mundane, Abates
3.A one sentence statement of your impressions of the section: This section was one of the saddest parts of the novel because a mother named Kavita, who lives in India gave birth to a girl, who she named Usha, and had to give it away three days after she was born. The reason why she had to give it away was because in the Indian culture having a daughter is considered to be bad because they cannot help out in the field, and when it comes time for her wedding, her family will not be able to afford the dowry, which means she would not be married for a couple years, or maybe her whole life
