I'm starting a couple different books because I can't decide what I want to read first and one because it's a buddy read.

[bookc..."Oh! I really enjoyed Discount Armageddon. Lots of action and humor.
Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ wrote: "Lol, I'm already converted. Did you Regina read Sherry and Jumping Stag's story? It's a freebie."Is it okay to read out of order?
Glad we've got willing converts to the After the Crash series :)About to start Red-Headed Stepchild for the buddy read.
Regina wrote: "Is it okay to read out of order?"I guess. It's just that all the previous HEA do appear in them. The story is pretty much self contained as stand alone novels. If you read out of order, you just miss out on the general story arch but it's doable.
I just finished
audio and have to agree with you Jeann, liked DIVERGENT better. Also listened to
which was a slow starter for me but the ending rocked...Working on the buddy read
and
Camping for the holiday weekend which is book chilling time, so need to pack up reading material. Short list:
Have fun camping!!! Maybe you should stay away from the zombie reads, lol.How is the audio for the Downside Series?

I like it because I don't have to decipher all the "downside slang", I just let the narrarator work it all out. I was hunting for a comment thread with a list of good series audio. If it doesn't exist, maybe we should start one.
LOL, I think you may be right about the zombie read. Maybe dumb alpha dragons and a slobbering Newfie are the way to go.
I finished
. It had a great premise and the writing was pretty good, but it just lacked that special spark. I never really felt an emotional connection with the characters.Up next is either
(finally!) or a total change of pace with

Thanks lis and that would be a great. Thread. I am thinking maybe there is an old one we could revive. But if not i would love a thread like that.

That's the best way I can think of putting it. I still enjoyed it enough to continue the series at some point.
Regina wrote: "I say Kleypas. :)"That's the way I'm leaning. It's been ages since I read a good historical romance.
So I finished
it was a nice change from what I had been reading. I am skipping #2 right now b/c it looks like people were rating it lower than #1 and I started #3

Just finished
which was EXCELLENT. This wasn't a romance but had one of the most romantic couples I've seen in a while (their love wasn't about his pecs or her eyes but about what they meant to each other.)Now I started
, which is due to the library. The premise is on the crazy side so I'm not sure how I'll like this.I'm also listening to
and
. I need to do some chores at home this morning (clean the refrigerator!) so I'll probably try to finish the last one.I also need to catch up on my reviews. I have like a million books I thought to review and I haven't written anything.
Haven't been able to settle to anything the last couple of days, until I started JAK's Crystal Gardens. Just loving it :D
I was up until 1:30 finishing my first Lisa Kleypas book, Mine Till Midnight. I loved it! Now to get my hands on the next one...
Sara wrote: "I added Ashfall to my tbr list :) "It's really good. But really tough with very sad and terrible parts. I hope you enjoy it.
Christine wrote: "I was up until 1:30 finishing my first Lisa Kleypas book, Mine Till Midnight. I loved it! Now to get my hands on the next one..."Seduce Me at Sunrise is my favorite book of that series. Oh Kev!!
I am so glad you loved it Christine, that series is fantastic! And I agree with DG, you have a great book waiting for you with Kev's. :)Ashfall is fantastic. I have the arc for the next book, but I am toying with the idea of reading #1 again. It is so good. I really hope for the best for Mike Mullin, he is a great author.
I love that cover Jocelin.
The Way of Kings looks interesting. I am reading three books right now, per my usual they are all over the place in terms of genre:
audio:
The Snow Child
reading: Gone Girl Shady Lady
I finished Wolf Tracker, and I enjoyed it for a pnr based book which is a genre that I have problems with. 3 stars - -some parts 4 stars. I had so much fun with the first 60 to 70% of that book. I am so thankful for you all discussing this series on this thread, b/c I am always looking for a PNR book that will work for me (yes I am difficult) and I love the idea of a romance based post-apoc series. So if you know of anymore, please let me know. I am think I may wait for the author to finish with #4, #2 seemed to get bad reviews and while I enjoyed parts of #1 it was just okay for me.
I finished my re-read in audio of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and it was just great (this is my favorite book by AC.)Now I'm going back to Lirael.
I hope all those celebrating had a great weekend! Going back to work tomorrow seems painful.I have actually never read any Agatha Christie -- do you recommend a certain one to try out?
I am surprised at how much I am liking Shady Lady by Ann Aguirre. I was mixed on the first two in the series (although I love her Sirantha Jax series). This one is set in Mexico (I am up to 25%) and I am loving it.
I am listening to
while it is not nearly as good as her other series, it is better than the first in this series. Klepyas is always enjoyable for me.
Regina wrote: "I have actually never read any Agatha Christie -- do you recommend a certain one to try out?"Really! That was the first mystery author I've read when I was 11 or 12 and it started my love with the genre. I'm re-reading both series (Miss Marple & Poirot) in audio.
Have you seen any of the movies or TV shows? If you haven't watched any, you should probably start with
, which is the most famous of her standalones. It's an amazing mystery and really good in audio. One of the good things about her books is that they are not really long (6-8 hrs.) so they can be listened really quickly.

While I'm waiting on Seduce Me at Sunrise from the library, I've started
and
. Cruel Enchantment is okay, but I'm really liking Spider's Bite so far.
Regina wrote: "Thanks DG, I will look for that one in audio (I haven't seen any of the movies or tv shows either!)"Great! It's best if you haven't seen any of the adaptations because if you know who's the murderer then the story doesn't pack the same punch. :)
AC was really prolific and some of the stories are out of this world. The difference with the modern mysteries is that these books are really about finding out who's the murderer and not about the detectives who tend to be two dimensional.
The books are also full of humor, which is something I discovered while doing my re-reads, because I read lots of them in Spanish or when my English wasn't as good so I didn't get any of the subtle jokes. :)
Haha, so my lack of exposure will pay off. My overdrive library has a copy of it, so I am on hold for it. Great! Thanks, I am excited.
Man, talking about And Then There Were None made me want to start the next book in the Poirot series,
. They are both narrated by Hugh Fraser, who played Hastings in some of the TV adaptations.
Make sure you can get #3
because of the cliffhanger Josie :)And wow on the good selection of library books!
I'm lucky in libraries is all I can say!You know, I heard about that and the next one was just sitting there next to Changeless, but did I pick it up? No I did not. How silly I am and will now go back for it :D
At the time it was a freebie and I have no scifi reference point. While only 100 pages the author does a good enough job making you understand what happened to the world without having to go into minute detail. The cover art was cute but it has since changed as well as the title.
An impulse buy and surprise favourite
is about the current library crisis and comprises of stories, essays and autobiographical pieces by a range of authors and journalists about the importance of libraries and books. Stephen Fry, Karin Slaughter and Julian Barnes's pieces are the most powerful.I also finally read
which if it wasn't so predictable may have been a 5 star read. Up next:
Sara wrote: "I'm reading
and really enjoying it. It reminds me a lot of the Kate Daniels series :)"Really?! That's another series I've had sitting around for years....
I finished
. I really enjoyed it, although it wasn't perfect. Still it was nice to read about a female assassin who doesn't spend the whole book whining about how she regrets her life and instead accepts who and what she is and is totally comfortable with her life. I definitely be continuing this series.
