How Does A Book Get Your Attention

Hi there
After the cover, the title, the description of course I always turn to the first page. It doesn't matter what the cover, title or description are like, if that first page doesn't grab me I won't be going further.
So...on that note. I have started a new group called 'First Page of Your Book' and it's just what it says it is: a place for authors to post their first page and for writers and readers to comment (kindly of course) about them.
So far I am the only member. Please check it out if you're an author and feel free to post your first page! I have not posted mine yet, it seemed rude somehow.
Thanks!
Diane

Great idea, Diane. I've joined your group, I've added my first page :-)

I'll look first at the title and then at the cover. If they appear to be well done, I'll click in at look at the description. That's where it gets really tough for me to find books for me to read. I'm looking for the descriptions that make me say, "Wow. That sounds really cool."
If I find a description that hooks me, then I'm looking at reviews. I think the biggest thing that will send me looking for another book is believability issues or inconsistencies. Either one of those from more than a few people, and I'm out...
