Jennifer (jennifer24) | 145 comments Getting ready for the 2012 challenge!
I am keeping my goal of 50 books. I read 71 in 2011 but I think that was because I was unemployed for a few months and since I am going back to work next week, I don't think I can do more than 50.
My goal again this year is to read more books that I already own. I only read 15 books off of my shelves in 2011 and would like to do a little better this year. I also want to finish up some series that I am in the middle of.
Hope everyone has a great 2012!!

Good luck, Jennifer!

I read about 30 books off my shelves last year, but purchased about 25, so in reality, I didn't do very well. *blushes* I hope you have better luck this year than I did last year (and I hope I do better this year, too!).

Jennifer (jennifer24) | 145 comments I'm starting the year off with big hopes, I went through and organized all of my books so I actually know what I have.
Seems like I have bought too many duplicates lately. I bought way to many books last year with Borders closing all around us, there were tons of good sales and when we moved in August there is a huge library less than a mile away that always has great book sales.
But I am going to try to hold myself back from the book sales and actually read what I already own. Hopefully I can do a little better than last year.

Good luck to you too!!

good for you! i've already bought several. i think it's a hopeless case for me to swear off buying books.

Jennifer (jennifer24) | 145 comments I don't think I can go the entire year without buying anything but I am trying to severely limit my purchases. I have so many books I already own to read!!

message 11: by Mekerei (new)

Mekerei | 204 comments One of my favourite pastimes is going into a book store (especially a large one) and browsing the shelves looking for a new author or a book by a favoured author that I haven't read yet. Owning books is definitely my addiction, perhaps I need to go to an BBA (Book Buyers Anonymous) meeting.

message 12: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifer24) | 145 comments Sign me up if you find one!! I love just wandering around bookstores, my problem is I always end up buying something. I have just recently found a used bookstore near our new house and they give you credit for what you donate to use on purchases of new(used) books. This has been working out great for me.

I feel like I have'nt had any time but when I looked at the books I have finished recently, I am still doing pretty good even though none of them have been terribly long or intense. Jennifer (jennifer24) | 145 comments I finished my 50 books for this year!!! I don't feel like I read anything really heavy or life altering this year but with a new job, move, and surgery I was trying to get rid of books I had lying around and relax. Now I can focus on reading holiday books next month to finish out the year.

message 30: by Tiffany, Administrator (new)

Congratulations on reaching 50!

You had a lot of things going on this year that would make it difficult to read too much that was heavy -- it's not easy to read a deep book while thinking about moving and transporting everything and "Did we forget to pack the coffee pot? Where are the hangers? How do I get home nowadays?". And getting and learning a new job can be exhausting, so you wouldn't really have the brainpower to read anything too heavy then, either. So cut yourself some slack, and say, "Okay, next year I'll read something profound." :)

message 31: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifer24) | 145 comments Thanks Tiffany I am really proud of myself for making my goal this year, with time to spare :)

And I didn't even count any books for my certification classes I have been taking. There's my educational addition.

My mom sent me a bunch of Sookie Stackhouse books to read when I was having surgery and had to be in bed most of the day. Didn't want anything to heavy to try to focus on. She is coming for the holidays and I wanted to finish them all so I can return them to her. Think I will change series for a while now :)
