As usual, here's a progress and non-spolier thread to use while we're still reading. I'll add a spoiler thread in a bit, with some questions and discussion points. If there's a F&G-related burning issue you want to discuss, feel free to bring it up -- the more participation, the better, so don't be shy!

Who's with me so far? :)

I'm with you! I have my copy, but don't know whether to finish Water for Elephants first. I have a few days off, so will try and get through WfE this week and then start on Florence and Giles :)

It's going to take me a few days to really get started with F&G, too, so don't worry! Begin in your own time :)

I'll post some discussion points and questions in the spoiler thread, Amina. I'll probably add a few more when I finish, but it'll let those who're already done get started! Feel free to post your own questions and thoughts, though...I'm sure we'll all have some by the time we're done :)

I'm going to read this first because it is the shortest, I don't want to rush The Shadow of the Wind, my copy of The Raw Shark Texts hasn't arrived yet and I started Half of a Yellow Sun last year and became engrossed in it so I know it's easy to get into.
I am really looking forward to reading this and have just put it on my kindle for 99p - the joint edition with The Turn of the Screw which is a bonus. I thought I already had it on kindle but for some reason I was confusing it with Oscar and Lucinda by Peter Carey

Well looks like I am reading this too, the library has just called to say it arrived, so I guess this is next after The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón Am I going to find this hard going as I don't think I've read taming of the shrew? Have I heard that these are similar some where? I'm sure someone said that...

I don't think you'll find it hard, even if you haven't read The Turn of the Screw. This could be a stand alone story in its own right, but you might want to read TTofS afterwards. It's based on that, and there are a lot of similarities, but they're by no means the same.

It took me a chapter or so to get into it, but it's worth sticking with. Hope you enjoy it!

I'm just about to start Florence and Giles, feel like I'm a bit behind. I really should at some point read The Turn of the Screw, as it's THE classic ghost story. I read The Ghost Writer by John Harwood (which is brilliant by the way) and that was also based on The Turn of the Screw.

I've not come across The Ghost Writer. I'll have to look out for that :)

Vicky | 30 comments I'm going to start Florence and Giles tonight :)

Ooh it's definitely creepy. There's a lot of mysterious goings on, that I can't wait to find the answers out to. I'm about halfway through now and I'll be reading some more tonight :)

The Ghost Writer by John Harwood It's this one Sarah. I think you'd like it, as it's a classic gothic tale with lots of mystery and twists. Part of the book is dedicated to the protagonist's great grandmother's Victorian ghost tales. So lots of little stories inside the main spooky one.

I'm at page 152 and really enjoying it. It's a lot easier to read than I thought it would be. My mind is all over the place thinking how it will end :S

Sarah (scheherazade) | 364 comments Mod
I thought it would be a difficult read, too, especially after I read somewhere that it was narrated in Florence's own "language". I found it surprisingly easy, though. In fact, the writing style became one of the things I loved most about it :)

Oh yes, I totally agree :) I love it. I literally laughed out loud when Florence spoke to the police chief? in her own language hehe

Vicky | 30 comments Yes I agree too, I loved the writing style and was another book I couldn't put down :)

page 208-209 :O OMG!! Must finish this today!

Sheryl Meredith | 3 comments I enjoyed it a lot, but who was Miss Taylor? Was she Giles's mother?

Sam (VanillaFountain) | 577 comments Mod
You might be better off looking at the spoiler thread Sheryl :) x

I know I'm way behind but I am really enjoying this!
Florence's language has made me laugh quite a few times, I can't wait to see what happens.
