Jesse sat alone in the library, chewing quietly on a piece of cinnamon gum as she read through her study books. She had no idea why she was sitting in the library reading anyway- she need practical, hands-on work. Not a written essay or exam. A duel. A fight. Something dark coming to take her life she could feel the happy adrenaline rush through her veins and take the dark force out of the world forever, knowing that she'd shed some sort of goodness somehow. That was what she needed.
This- sitting here, going over material so she didn't screw up on a stupid test- was something she didn't, in the very least, need. She was graduated for Merlin's sake! She was DONE taking tests and worrying about grades. She was an adult, just as capable of teaching these same exams as the cursed professor.

But yet here she sat, going over spells for certain dark creatures and lords. Here she sat, her back numbly reminding her of how long she'd been tucked in her chair. Her sleek, soft, flaming red hair fell over her shoulders like a curtain and provided her the privacy she needed. The way she sat and held her expression told everyone to leave her alone, no matter what they had to say. She had one black booted foot hooked on the seat and her atire spoke of sensual danger, even though she never really planned for the sensual part. She knew she was attractive, but never really cared if others thought so. She'd dressed in tight, black pants and a army green, v-neck teeshirt that hung slightly loose on her. All the students threw her evil eyes, since she was no longer bound to the Hogwarts robes.

She'd made up her face too, lining her eyes expertly and making them seem even more shocking than usual. Otherwise she'd left make-up alone, not wanting to bother with it.

Her book was becoming increasingly boring. She had no idea how many more pages she had to read until she could take a break without feeling guilty about it. She was becoming more and more fed up with the book with every page she turned. Finally she blinked, leaning back into her chair and slamming the book closed with all the force she had. It ripped the cover slightlt and she groaned screwing up her face and pushing it across the table, letting it fall to the floor on the other side. She grinned contented and chewed on her gum a bit more before sitting back in her chair to glare at anyone who dared to glare at her for making racket.

Rebecca May | 472 comments Kit stalked into the library. He was in a bad mood, not having seen Katherine for the better part of three days, what with all the tests she had. He'd got fed up with just waiting around, and had come into the Hogwarts Library to look for a specific book on calligraphy. Kit's mood softened a little as he looked around at the books all sitting on the shelves. He'd always liked libraries, though he had no idea why.

Kit looked around at the books for a while, but couldn't find anything good enough for what he needed. He wondered if he should go and look for Katherine, and wait outside her exam room as long as it took... until hell froze over, if need be. But then he heard a thump from behind him, and turned to see a familiar pretty red haired girl, glowering around her after pushing a heavy book onto the floor. Kit tried not to grin. Finally, he thought. Something to do. He felt a bit guilty about the fact he was going to spend some time with Jesse while his love was stuck in an exam room, but he couldn't help it... Kit didn't handle boredom all that well.

He stalked over to where Jesse was sitting and picked up the heavy book, mending the cover with a wave of his wand and handing it back to her. "You know, if you're going to fail your test you really shouldn't take it out on the book," he said, his face expressionless as she took the book from him. Kit realized she was chewing gum, and almost winced. He hated gum, the sound of chewing, it was all so... inelegant.

Jesse sat in her chair, calming her fuming mind. She thought the book deserved it, personally. It was the reason her head ached dully and the reason her back needed a nice rub. It was the reason she was about to cast some sort of spell on the unfortunate girl that was staring at her two tables down. Jesse let her most fierce look glide onto her face, and the younger girl dropped her gaze.

Jesse shook her head and settled into her chair, crossing her legs and deciding what her next step of action would be. She could refuse to do the test and only do field work... But that wasn't how she'd get her license. She couldn't refuse anything if she really wanted help from the school. So that was that... She'd take the test, she decided... Later.

In the meantime, Jesse needed something to distract her from what she really needed to do. She glanced around for something else to do, and just as she did so, a pair of broad shoulders blocked her view of the rest of the library. She glanced up and saw Kit, just as he started to speak. He waved his wand over her book and erased the damage of her quick temper from the book. She took it from him silently, and willed her face to stay emotionless as she met his eyes again. "I'm not going to fail the test," she said, confidence shining in her eyes.
A moment later she just grinned and motioned for him to sit down across from her. "The others aren't with you today?"

Rebecca May | 472 comments Kit could see that Jesse was in a bad mood too - she was busy staring down a younger girl as he stalked over. He repaired the book and handed it back to her, with no sign of effort despite the heaviness of the book. Kit shrugged nonchalantly and tried not to let his lips curl into a smile as Jesse told him she wasn't going to fail the test. "If you say so," he replied. "What's the test on anyway?" he asked. "And even if you aren't going to fail, you really shouldn't throw books. It's immature."

At Jesse's own question Kit raised an eyebrow. "Apparently not." Seeing Jesse's dangerous, annoyed look, Kit guessed she wasn't really in the mood for him to attempt to piss her off. He really didn't understand how anyone could be that annoyed while they were in a library, but he relented anyway. "Katherine is taking an exam, and I've no idea where Evie or Brenton are. Or your sister," he added. Kit sat as Jesse motioned for him to take the chair on the other side of the table. He reclined backwards in it, leaning on the back two legs of the chair. "So, after attempting to destroy the Library, what are your plans for the day?" Kit asked, his pale face expressionless.

Jesse hooked both of her heels on the chair's legs, propping her pretty head against her upraised arm, looking at him with both challenge and humor. Kit stood over her with an odd expression on his face. Jesse decided it was only odd because she couldn't read his emotions through his face. Not even his eyes. She licked her lips slowly and shrugged at him in return. "I'm supposed to learn spells for defeating dark creatures without killing them. But if you ask me, I don't think I need to learn anything like that. Death is death, and death for them is good, because otherwise there is death for me." She said sourly, drumming her impatient fingers on the surface of the table before going on.

Kit spoke on and Jesse nodded. "I saw Abigail late last night, but otherwise I haven't seen any of them since our lunch," she said, as he sat down. She grinned at him and rolled her fierce brown eyes at his question. "Oh you know," She joked, but her voice held the highest note of seriousness. "Next is the Great Hall, and maybe the ground after that. I don't want to take on too much in one day," she said, looking over at him.
"How is your job going?" She asked, passing the former subject easily, leaning closer to Kit so they needn't speak so loud in the otherwise nearly silent library.

Katherine had finished (And aced) the third test of the day, and now she was on her way across the corridor to go take another exam. She would pass the library on the way, and as she did, she turned to glance on her way buy. She saw Kit and smiled. But then she noticed a flaring red head beside him. She bit her lip as she recognized Jesse. They were alone. Katherine took a deep breath and kept on her way, not wanting to be late. After all, Kit needed to be in the company of his other friends, since Katherine was so busy of late... She just wondered if Jesse had potential to be more than a friend to Kit.
And Katherine kept wearing looser clothes by the day...
She opened a classroom door and shoved all thoughts of her mind, once again focusing on her schoolwork.

Rebecca May | 472 comments Kit was momentarily distracted by the fall of Jesse's smooth, dark red hair over her hand as she leaned her head against her arm. He shook himself mentally, annoyed that he would even notice that, and made himself concentrate on the conversation. He could hear the impatience in her tone as she spoke of the test. Jesse was like him; ruthlessly practical. Kit knew he'd expressed the exact same view before, but he just shrugged nonchalantly. "That's true," he conceded. "But unfortunately for you, it appears you still have to take the test. And there must be some value in keeping some dark creatures alive, otherwise they wouldn't ask you to do it, would they?"

Kit nodded in return as he sat down, brushing a strand of pale blond hair out of his eyes. He shrugged again at her question. "Relatively uneventful. I love calligraphy, but selling things to people isn't exactly the most thrilling job on the planet. But I'm only here until Evie graduates, and then I'll find something rather more... exciting," Kit said, his ice-blue eyes lighting up a little at the thought of becoming an Auror.

In the corner of his eye, Kit thought he saw a slender figure passing the door, and his first thought was "Katherine! Kit turned to look at the Library doors, but there was no-one there, and he shook his head. It was probably just wishful thinking, especially as Katherine was probably in another exam at the moment. He felt a bit bad about not finding her to wish her good luck, but he'd finally found someone interesting to talk to and he didn't want to leave. Turning back to Jesse, he studied her carefully, his face expressionless. "The Great Hall, you said? Do you mind if I join you for lunch?"

Kit's icey blue eyes watched Jesse and she found herself counting their layers, seeing shades and shades of oceanic blue. She grinned slightly, but averted her eyes for a moment, shoving that observation from her mind. It was stupid to be thinking about the color of someone's eyes. He spoke, which brought her back to reality, and Jesse nodded regretfully, looking back at him. "I do suppose it has its uses. But I just... Can't imagine letting something like that live on," she said, partly to herself and partly to him.

She smiled and laughed her agreement, making sure to be quiet in the library. Already her mood had seemed to improve. "Well then. Big plans, Kit. The prospect of actually starting life is quite exciting, isn't it?" She asked, her voice just as lifted as the sparkle in his eyes.

Jesse saw Kit turn his head quickly and she followed his gaze to the entrance of the Library, but saw nothing unusual. She let it pass, turning her head back to him as he did the same. She considered his question and tried to decide if he was joking or being serious, but alas, she had no idea. "Sure," She said, slightly grinning. That would do for either of the options. "I'm starving," she said, taking her book to shove it into an army green messenger bag. She stood and looked over at him, waiting to see if he really joined her or not.

((Short post, I know!))

Rebecca May | 472 comments ((Nah, don't worry about it. Mine will probably be short too. After this shall we move to the Great Hall? :) And do you want to post first, or do you want me to do it? :) ))

Kit noticed that Jesse was looking at his eyes, and smirked slightly, wondering what on earth could be so interesting about them. So he just waited, reclining backwards on the back two legs of the chair for the beautiful red-head to start speaking again. Her comment didn't seem to require any sort of answer, so he just nodded, and brought the front legs of his chair back down onto the floor with a bang, frightening the quiet girl further down the shelves. Kit grinned, and then turned back to Jesse.

Kit realized rather more enthusiasm had come into his voice than he hoped when he spoke of leaving to start something more exciting. He didn't want to make it sound like he hated being here watching out for his little sister. Evie was the best part of being her - or had been, before Katherine came along. "Yes, I suppose," Kit replied to Jesse's question, trying to make his voice rather more unconcerned than it had been. Her phrasing had brought his mind back to Katherine again - life truly was just starting for Kit. Or would, once he asked Katherine to marry him.

Looking away from the entrance of the Library, Kit saw that Jesse had followed his gaze, looking to see what he was searching for. Again he shook himself mentally; he must be slipping, he was too easy to read these days. Or maybe he was just twitchy after so long out of Katherine's company. He simply nodded as Jesse accepted his request to join her, pushing away a twinge of guilt as he stood up. It wasn't like he was going to link arms with Jesse all the way to the Food Hall or anything - it was just lunch, nothing to get worried over. "Lets go then," he said, and stalked out of the Library, presuming that Jesse would follow.

Rose Tyler (rose_tyler) | 361 comments Amy ran quietly into the library, her satchel slapping her knee silently, her eyes flashing with...distress? Did she have to cram for a test? Or was it excitement? Was she there for entertaining novels? It was hard to tell. She scanned the shelves with long, slender fingers passing briefly over each book. When she was loaded down with her selections, she strode over to an empty table. Her head bent over her literary pleasures, she took out a notebook she had in her satchel and began to take notes. She heard a soft "ahem" and looked up, clearly startled out of her concentration. Standing in front of her was her Aunt Karen. Shocked to her core, she stared blankly at her aunt. Aunt Karen pursed her lips and said grimly, "Amelia. How nice to see you too. I'm here to take you home."

Rose Tyler (rose_tyler) | 361 comments "You're...you're..."
Amy whispered breathlessly, unable to comprehend.
"Here to take you home. Yes. Now please finish your sentences, and close your mouth, you look like a codfish, Amelia."
Aunt Karen said, looking down her long nose at Amy with a delicate sniff. Amy simply could not believe it. Her aunt had practically ignored her since she had come to Hogwarts - the way Amy preferred it. Aunt Karen had good intentions, but honestly Amy could not see how such a grim, tense woman was related to her. They were different in every which way.
Amy could not, would not leave Hogwarts. Here she wasn't being constantly reminded of her "poor" etiquette, the way she slouched, her wild hair not being brushed and braided, and so on. She was accepted for who she was here.
No, she couldn't leave. These things passed through her head in a matter of seconds, and Amy finally got her voice back.
"No." She said this quietly, but firmly. Aunt Karen looked taken aback.
"But Amelia, you must come back." She walked behind Amy and started rubbing a tense spot between Amy's shoulders. Amy pulled back, confused, eyes pleading for an explanation. Aunt Karen sighed, and massaged her temples. Eyes still closed, she said,
"Amelia, you are miserable here. I should have brought you home earlier, I understand that now. But I thought you would make friends. I thought you would get involved. I thought you would give up your silly reading and become more of a social butterfly. But obviously you didn't. And I can not bear keeping you here when you must be so unhappy. When I got your letter, I knew now was the time."
Amy wondered for a moment what she could have let slip her her letter. But that wasn't important now - what was important was staying at Hogwarts.
Amy shook her head fiercely, her hair cascading down her back.
"You will not tell me what to feel, Karen. You will not take me home. I will stay at Hogwarts. I will make friends, so help me I will be the life of the party, but I am never going home."
Amy's eyes sparkled with defiance, unaware she had just called her aunt by her first name by accident. Aunt Karen looked weary. She closed her eyes yet again, and replied,
"Have it your way, Amelia. But I will return in a month. On that day, you will have either made friends (besides River) and be more involved in clubs in this school, and gotten a date to this Valentine's Dance I have heard about, or you will come home. No exceptions.
One month, Amelia."
And like that, Aunt Karen was gone.

Rose Tyler (rose_tyler) | 361 comments Amy exclaimed in frustration. There was no one who would be her friend. She was the beautiful bookworm, the intriguing and scary A student. The only person who liked her was at Beauxbaton. She had no friends here.
She put her head on her books, and closed her eyes, hoping someone would reach out, just this once.

Amy gathered her things and shoved them in her satchel. Waving a little at Sky, she walked out, floating on air. She had a friend! Now all she needed was to become friends with Sky's friends and Aunt Karen wouldn't be able to take her home! But then a thought struck her - she still needed a date to the dance.
She fell from her cloud, and sagged out of the library.
