SOLVED. Boy+girl go through fog into ancient Rome/Gaul (she shapeshifts, he becomes a berserker). [s]

In first book, the class is on field trip (in London/England) and there's some smog/fog/somke. "The girl is unpopular and a little manly at first. Her and the boy are pulled through the fog to another world where they become involved in a war. The girl discovers she can shapeshift and is turning into a man. Also turns into an eagle at end." The boy becomes a beserker when fighting. In the end, they help win the war and the fog/mist appears and they go through.

Second book, they travel through the fog but don't end up going back. Instead, they go to some other ancient land and must help them and the boy loses his berserker powers, which I think the girl gains. and the warriors from the first novel come back.

its been quite some time since I posted this but I only just saw that people had answered and I want to thank you all for helping me find the book! It was the Warriors of Alavna series and I'm excited to reread it!
