Half way through The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells, first of his books that I have read, and I am quite enjoying it.
Right now I'm about halfway through Kurt Vonnegut's Mother Night and next I want to read something from this challenge. Which should I read?
Shmuli wrote: "Time to tackle Lolita. I'm apprehensive, a little nervous, somewhat afraid and wonder whether I have to cover the book up on the train?"No Shmuli, I wouldnt worry about it, I dont know where you are from, but its the taboo nature of the work not really the writing or descriptions that make it so controversial. It is a classic and a person that knows what it is about would know its a classic by a great writer someone that doesnt know its a classic probably doesnt know what its about anyway.
I figured. I was being slightly facetious. I have though steered away from it because of its themes. They are repugnant really . Btw I'm from Australia

Discovered Alcott's work when I was in elementary school. I wanted to be Jo...or Louisa.

I'm reading Catcher in the Rye. I find Holden completely annoying. Not to the end yet, so I hate to jump to conclusions early. So far not a fan though.
Currently reading Money by Martin Amis. The protagonist is a vile brute of a man. I live his in text reference to 'Martin Amis' the writer! Classic!
just finished the girl who kicked hornet's nest....sadly there is no more lisbeth salander to read....today starting with "five people you meet in heavan"....
Vikas wrote: "just finished the girl who kicked hornet's nest....sadly there is no more lisbeth salander to read....today starting with "five people you meet in heavan"...."i know she is definitely an interesting character. do u know if they are making the next movie?
i finished two towers and im thinking i really need to watch the movie, the ending to the book surprised me.... i might have to wait to read return of the king because i have alot of school reading to do. i started The Host by Stephanie Meyer though. its interesting.

Reading The Skull by Philip K. Dick. Liking it so far. Just finished another one of his books, The Variable Man. Very interesting especially if you love scifi stories.
Finally on Pride and Prejudice. I've heard only good things about this story. Lets hope it lives up to expectations. (No. 28 of 50)
just finished reading "Five people you meet in heaven"..it was a really nice read...starting Animal Farm....

i have read 19 of the 50 and i own about ten others i plan to read. right now i am reading strictly for pleasure which is the way we should all read if not in school. i am reading Emily of New Moon and Daughter of Joy both are really good so far but will probably never make the classic list nor the 50 books to read before you die.
I'm about to finish 'The Illustrated Man' by Ray Bradbury. It's really good. I've never read a novel that uses frame device to this extent, which makes it interesting, and each story is as magnificent as the one before.
Bradbury holds a special place in my heart :)

I used to teach Something Wicked This Way Comes. Bradbury's language and concepts were sometimes difficult for 8th graders, but they loved the strange, creepy tone. Bradbury is a big favorite of mine too!

I think Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite too. The way it falls together in the last few chapters is incredible. plus Sirius black is one of my favorite characters in the whole series.

Drizzling wrote: "re-reading....Shantaram..... one of the best books i've read"I too read "Shantaram" at the recommendation of a friend, and I'm glad I did. Learned so much about a culture that I knew next to nothing about....
Re-reading a book called Ecotopia that I was first introduced to in college. Also trying to finish Home by M. Robinson. Her writing has a wistful, nostalgic quality that I like, but her pace is a little slow sometimes.
I'm currently reading 'Where She Went' the second book in the 'If I Stay' series. After that I'm going to be starting 'To Kill a Mockingbird' even though I have no idea why it's about.
Carmen wrote: "Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince"I have just finished Homecoming by Cathy Kelly (not her best) and have started Maleficent Seven by Derek Landy. Just saw the cover of the new Skulduggery this week and it looks awesome!
Thinking about starting Ape and Essence, by Aldous Huxley, interesting to think the ways of humanity, how high and low we can reach ! :-) ! ....
I skirt around doors of perception, knowing what it means, in a deep sense ! :-) ! .... ! :-0 ! :-) ! ....
