The best is yet to come.

Have you read On the Road, Hanna? How does The Town and the City compare?

Yes Buck, I'd just finished On the Road before starting The Town and the City. I think that if you read them both you'll generally find they don't deviate too much from Kerouac's style...there's that detailed description and detailed-oriented writing that makes it very peculiar and enjoyable. The one main difference, however, is that The Town and the City is more expansive - it deals with more characters (all of which are crucial to the plot) and thus narrates the story from their points of view which makes it feel like a denser book than On The Road. I recommend both.

Hello Yasmine,
The Stranger is a great read and Camus is one of my favorite authors. I think you'll really enjoy it (even if in some parts it will feel obscure). I'd like to hear your feedback on it when you finish it.
Cheers,
Hanna

Am also reading Gai Jin by James Cavell

I am not sure if this book is on the 50 books list or not, but I am an eccletic reader.

I enjoyed The Book Thief as well even though there are sad parts. Anyone interested in reading fiction centered on the Holocaust should check out this book. The way the story is told or described is interesting as well.

It's okay I excepted more from it but it's still kind of interesting.
Do you know these books where you think I just want to finish it and start another book but you don't just want to stop in the middle of it?

At the start it was bit boring but it seems captivating as we delve further into it.

I'm going to discuss it on my site next month and also under the Goodreads Book Club I set up (mainly for Kindle First reads). I hope you join the discussion! {Btw, I'm brand new to Goodreads.} https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
This is an example of why I like this book. The things they say...just so breathtaking.
"This whole illness of mine, it's all because of missing her. If I could only describe to you what it is to love like that. People search for it their whole lives - they chase after every promise that will bring them love - while we, Lila and I, we had it, big and true, without even asking for it. And it stayed that way from the day I met her until today."
This is an Arab man speaking about a Jewish woman he fell in love with before Jerusalem was divided in 1948.

Hi Christine,
Yes. All of the selections are. The way Kindle First books work is that they hit Kindle Unlimited when the book is released to the general public. All of the discussions are designed to give you 2.5 months to read the book if you're an Amazon Prime member and you choose the Kindle First book when it becomes available to Prime members.
If you're not a Prime member, it hits Kindle Unlimited a month later when the book is released to the public. That still gives you a month and a half to read the book.
I hope that's not confusing. Let me know if it was.
I know not all Prime members know they can choose a free book at the start of every month called Kindle First books. You really have to go searching for it in the Amazon Prime benefits page in order to get the list of 6 books they've made available for free to its Prime members. These books are selected by Amazon editorial and give Prime members access to the book one month before it is released to the public.
After that, it hits the public and it is still made available in Kindle Unlimited for those who subscribe.
Kindle First books have been hits and misses. I read a couple of really bad tales, but then there are brilliant ones like "The Moonlit Garden" and this one I'm reading now "About the Night." I've been reading reviews for Kindle First books and there are a lot of people talking about the Amazon editorial team not putting their best foot forward in all of their selections. I'm hoping that changes over time.
