Does anyone think the forthcoming Trek movie will speed up the pace of TOS stories?

I think that the new movie will screw up the stories in a major way.The makers of the movie have said that they are going to "reinvent" the ST universe. In other words, the story will not fit with the series and other movies.
Admittedly, there was never much attempt at continuity between all the books (with hundreds of titles and dozens of authors it is just not possible), but there has always been an assumption that the books will at least be consistent with the series episodes and the movies.
Now we have a whole new ST universe to contend with. So when new books are written, will they be "old" ST universe, or "new" ST universe?
Bit concerned about the new ST movie. Half the cast looks great, the rest like they just grabbed the first actor that looked vaguely like the character ( why does Uhura look like Beyonce?) and for a prequel, the bridge looks more modern than the TV show. It should look clunky and primitive, instead it looks like the 'Heart of Gold' bridge from the' Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy'.
Wait and see, but I'm not sure if I'll be there opening weekend.
Very true.People talk to me about there being Highlander movies and I always reply 'Movies? No, they made one and then the TV show."
Honestly...I think the movie has made it so that Old and New can exist. Since there are 2 Spocks in the current "new" Trek universe, then both timelines have relevancy...the old in the older Spock's memories and the new to be lived in the memories of the younger Spock. A whole new playing field and future has been opened up for Trek with this new movie, a bright future in fact since the movie was done so well. Why can't it be the same in the books? "...there are always possibilities..."

I think there will still be books of TOS. The new film is aimed at a very wide audience, whereas the Star Trek books are aimed at rather a niche market. Anyone who who buys a Star Trek novel is obviously a fan of the series, and will have the knowledge to not get confused with the Original Series and the new movie.
According to Pocket Books web site, there seem to be books set in both TOS universes. http://trekmovie.com/2009/07/10/exclu...
But I found another blog (GeeksofDoom)that claims that the "J.J. verse" novels have been postponed indefinitely. Bummer!
Very interesting link there. Inception, The Children of Kings, Unspoken Truth, and Seven Deadly Sins (Greg Cox doing a Pakled story? I'm there.) all look especially interesting, though I'll be disappointed if those alt. universe books are indeed postponed. I'll need something to hold me over until the next movie.
