Madison I was wondering. What would be the equal of a Graceling today? What is used excessivly yet hated so much?

Veronica Haha, are you the one I brought this up to in another discussion? :P

Madison Yep :D

Veronica Nice, haha. I still have no answer, though. If we were a little back in history, I'd say the closest thing would have been the hate on African-Americans...

Becky i dunno, maybe the Jewish? They are always being victimised

Veronica Yeah, I think that if you think of being Graced as being a certain race, there are alot of things that could correlate.

Madison Very true...

Renée Asians! Because sometimes it seems some of them have superpowers! lol

Madison Like what?

Dee their math skills ;)

I don't know if hated is the right term, maybe misunderstood and taken advantage of (like leak...)

maybe Malcolm Galdwells Outliers: The Story of Success could potentially be used as a comparative

It's an Internet meme, you should visit 9gag.com sometime!

Jen Probably successful singers. {Note: I didn't say "good" singers.} You see a lot of fanboys and fangirls for certain pop stars, but then almost as violently there is an anti-that pop star movement.

Case in point: Justin Bieber. He's got his fans, but there is an even more vocal loathing and hatred thing going on toward him.

The graced had their fans, but more so they had their detractors.

Sarayah i can't help it and i KNOW this is sooo not in today's society but Gracling with their graces makes me think of X-men and their mutant powers.

Laura blake Ok so I might be way off on this, but to me when I read the book I didn't think of race or religion. I actually think we all have graces today. For example one person might have a talent of being really good at art, which many may envy. Or it might be your friend that has the talent of eating anything they want and not gaining weight when all u do is look at food and put on the pounds, or the friend that just seems to naturally good at sports when I could barley run a mile. That may make you hate or strongly dislike the person for something nether one of you have control over like a grace. I see graces everywhere we all have talent, but we seem to envy and hate others for there talent then to work on or own talent/grace.

I agree with this very much! I also thought'graces' to be a gift rather than a race. And gifted people today also stand before a lot of hatred and misunderstandings.
