In Death Bringer I thought Derek Landy did that on purpose, he doesn't like Twilight and just took the mickey. I found Caelan hilarious.
Caelan is epic, one funny vampire. Derek Landy took the michael out of Twilight, that was hillarious!
But... Vampires live forever, and they need love, they want a family, sick and tired of being all alone. So yeah, i think that is what Caelan wanted Valkyrie to marry him XD

1. He is creepy

I have no idea why vampires want to rush things so much because they're going to live forever, right? Well, I guess maybe they think that since they've lost everything else they might lose her too unless they make that "unbreakable bond" as soon as possible (marriage).
Caelan is okay at first with the whole "I love you" thing, but then it starts turning into a melodrama
