With the exception of the Epicurious app, Ive only downloaded free apps. Many of the apps that cost $2-4 on the Nook are free in iPhone so I cant justify paying for something I could get free. I purchased the Epicurious app only because I prefer the larger screen on my Nook than my iPhone while following a recipe in the kitchen.
If you either hack an Android OS on the SD card or buy a preconfigured one, as I didm you turn your Nook into a generic Android tablet with a real Marketplace and of good apps. I can boot either the B&N OS or Android. To read your B&N books you need the Nook app for Android which is a free download. I find that I prefer the Nook OS for its reader. There are richer options such as emailing yourself highlighted excerpts which either doesn't exist or I can't find with the Nook app for Android. Android is wwaayy better for everything else.
I've been wondering about the preconfigured android sd cards - so it sounds like you like it - if I understand it correctly you can either boot android from the card or take the card out and just boot your Nook OS. Is that correct?Where did you get the android sd card? It sounds great!

You can also find how-tos on Youtube showing you how to make your own. I didn't think it was worth buying a preloaded card when I had a spare microSD card lying around, so I loaded it up with Android myself. It works alright with the Nook Color, but there are a lot of apps in the Android Market that won't work on the Nook Color (and possibly the Tablet) unless you've rooted the device and can adjust the screen resolution. For example, running Android on my Nook Color from the microSD card, the Facebook app won't download from the Market because it says it's incompatible with my device. Several other apps won't download for the same reason. I've researched it on developer forums and that's when I found it was caused by the screen resolution.
Thought I'd follow up with a new comment in here. Turns out, I got one of the Nook2Android SD cards as a present this year. It works so much better than a self-created card and all the apps you'd like work just fine on it (ie. Facebook, etc.) Those apps didn't work when I built my own android SD card. I'd highly recommend buying the pre-made card if you're looking at messing around with Android on your Nook Color.

My tablet is Nook Tablet version 1.4.0 ,and i try to root it with (tbp421.APK)(usbdrivers.zip)
(Nook&Zergy.zip),this 3 files......
When i root it i saw these error message like this "zergy"is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file...."adb"is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file .I don`t know how to do next step......Please help me...
I've got a Nook Color and a Nook Tablet. I prefer the Color with an N2A card. It boots into either the Nook or to a tablet. The tablet Nook App works just fine for books but I prefer the Nook for magazines. The people aat N2A offer fantastic support. I cooked the card through my own fault. They provided a replacement card within three days even though I creaed the problem. They even provided a postage paid envelope for returning the old card. I highly recommend their product and the company.
I forgot to mention that I've previously rooted my Nook color andalso created a dual boot card. Neither method worked as well or as consistently as the N2A card.
I received my N2A card yesterday and was up and running Android on my Nook Color within 10 minutes!! It even came with extra instructions for downloading from the Android Marketplace - apparently you have to clear some data before the Marketplace will allow you to download.I was a little surprised at how much extra unnecessary stuff was on the card; for example, Pandora, phone settings, etc. Hopefully I can delete some stuff to make room for "important" things, like Words with Friends :)

That's because they use the CyanogenMod Android build, which is mostly used on cell phones. I've not yet found an Android build specifically for a tablet or eReader unless it came on the device from the factory. It doesn't make much sense, though, that the N2A developers left those apps in their build when they knew that people were going to be using the cards on Nooks, which doesn't have a camera, phone, GPS, etc.

For the price though it still is a good deal.
I will probably regret only getting the 8GB card but wanted to see how (if) it worked and if I liked it. I figured I can always upgrade down the road.
I had thought that you'd have to take the card out to get to Nook but you have your choice of boot modes which makes it really nice and easy!
I'd be interested to know what apps people are getting to use and having fun with the card on their Nook.
I am look for an app that will allow my Epubs to be read aloud. I have small children and sometimes simply just can't read with twins who are 18 months old, but I could listen. I heard about this app, but don't know were to find it.
Cynthia,I may be wrong, but I believe that the book would have to be i9n audio book format, such as an mp3 file.

I think that Barnes & Noble has audio books for sale as mp3 downloads. You may have to copy & paste this link, but it brings you to mp3 aqudio. On the left side is a list of genre, including kids books.http://www.barnesandnoble.com/s?PRC=-...

Well, I have Audible.com but I heard that you can get an app that will read the text. Now, I am sure it is not as professional sounding as the narrators on Audible, but I'd give it a shot. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I appreciate it. Anyone else have any ideas?
Now you've got me curious! Check http://www.squidoo.com/ebook-to-audio... Apparently there is a program on my computer (Windows 7 home premium) that does this. I found it by clicking the start button and typing text to speech into the search box. Haven't taken the time to check it out but it may work for you.Good luck,

Cynthia's, is your nook rooted? If you have access to the android market there are several reader apps that offer text to speech. My favorite is moon reader pro. It costs $4.99, but it is well worth it. I actually prefer to read my epubs on it rather than the nook app. As I am reading my book, I can simply tap the word I want it to start on and it begins reading to me.

Brodie, I was happy to see a stand alone app for twitter as well. Wish theyd get one for facebook as well. Seesmic for Nook was a bit too clunky/busy for me.
Those of you with either the Color or the Tablet, what apps have you installed and are they worth what you paid for them?
