A few days ago I completed Lover Enshrined (Black Dagger Brotherhood #6), the last of my BDB rereads. I just finished the short story Father Mine: Zsadist and Bella's Story (Black Dagger Brotherhood #6.5). It was quite enjoyable. I am looking forward to continuing the series.

Yes..very much so. I think it is the best book in the series to date.. but you MUST know the characters' histories. Butcher packed a lot of story into this one. He's not tying up loose ends, so much as catching everyone up to day, as well as, showing how one character intertwines with another, and then laying the additional ground work for the future. I also like how once or twice there were references made to a couple of the short stories as well.
I agree with you that it's the best up to now and certainly not stand-alone. I also liked the references to earlier stories. Butcher shows that things that happened in the padt are intertwined with what is happening now amd will hapen in the future. It's very promising for future books!
So, I think instead of going back to Black Dagger Brotherhood, I'm going to read the Percy Jackson series instead. I read The Lightening Thief a few months ago, and enjoyed it. I want something light and fun leading up to the Holiday Season; BDB just doesn't seem to fit. I do hope to read books 9 & 10 before the end of the year, though.I've also been thinking about my 2013 Challenge. I'm aiming low at 1 book a week (so 52 novels), plus 25, already owned, short stories. I don't read short stories often, yet I seem to have collected quite a few, so this is sort of a TBR challenge as well. I won't add the short stories to my GR Challenge widget, but wil count them off with the Ticker Thingy on my 2013 thread.
I've actually started putting together a suggested reading list for some of my 2013 challenges. Haven't done that before so it will be interesting to see how much reality aligns with the planning. :)
Light and Fun = the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane. Read the first two and see if you're hooked.Have I pushed this series enough this year yet? I think not.
@ Caleb: My 2013 reading may be determined by the 4 GoodReads Groups of which I'm a member, including the MobileRead Book Club. We'll see. Like you, I wonder if it will align with reality. The 3 other groups are dedicated to SciFi and/or Fantasy, which I love, but I don't want to suffer "favorite genre overload". @ HiMS: **Smile** Its been on my TBR list for about a year...maybe two; I own the first one, So You Want to Be a Wizard.
I promised myself, however, that I would read Percy this year. My eldest son has read the first 3 or 4 and I'd like to be able to talk to him about it.
So it'll neither be BDB nor Percy Jackson. I'm starting Breed To Come
by Andre Norton, as suggested by my hubby. I've not read any of her work before, but he thinks I'll really like it.

Its just not happening. I can't get into anything. The good news is that its a combo of busy days, stress (good & bad), excitement and planning for 2013, instead of the depression that seized me in late summer/early fall. I may just have to call it a day on my 2012 challenge and continue looking forward to next year.
